Ooof. Apparently, whatever this is (tactical 'nuke' has been suggested but I'm not so sure), it's caused a 3.0 on the Richter scale. I'm guessing possibly an ammunition depot was hit by the Zionists?
A 3.1 magnitude temblor is reported by the Geographic Survey of the Zionist entity’s seismology department at 11:49 p.m. last night, with its epicenter about 28 kilometers (17 miles) off the coast of the city of Banias.
The earthquake’s depth is measured at 32 kilometers (20 miles), and there is no confirmation that the reading was in fact caused by explosions, The Times of Israeli reported.
Concerning the "abdication--or--?", Assad is formulating a statement that makes it sound like a last-minute choice. Says he was at Khmeimem and it was attacked, and he found all the Syrian defenses collapsed, so he left.
It contradicts statements we have heard that he personally commanded the army to withdraw. What would remain is that "someone" gave orders to withdraw, meaning one or more generals caused a betrayal. So it is unclear what actually happened. Maybe it will go down to word against word.
Either way, the Israeli actions remain unfavorable. If no international body will intervene on what this country does, then, why not just quash it, and no international body will interfere with that, either.

BREAKING:
🇸🇾 Former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has released his first statement:
'With the expansion of terrorism in Syria, and its arrival in the capital Damascus on the evening of Saturday, December 7, 2024, questions began to be raised about the fate and location of the president, amidst a torrent of confusion and stories far from the truth, which constituted support for the process of installing international terrorism concealed as a Syrian liberation revolution.
At a critical historical moment in the life of the nation, when truth should have a place, there is something that needs to be clarified through a brief statement. These circumstances and the subsequent complete cessation of communication for security reasons did not allow for it to be made, and its brief points do not replace the narration of the details of everything that happened later, when the opportunity arises.
First of all, I did not leave the country in a planned manner as was rumored, nor did I leave it during the last hours of the battles, but rather I remained in Damascus following up on my responsibilities until the early morning hours of Sunday, December 8, 2024. With the expansion of terrorism inside Damascus, I moved in coordination with my Russian friends to Latakia to follow up on the combat operations from there. Upon arriving at the Hmeimim base in the morning, it became clear that the forces had withdrawn from all the battle lines and that the last army positions had fallen, with the deterioration of the field situation in that area increasing, and the attack on the Russian military base itself being escalated by drones. In light of the impossibility of leaving the base in any direction, Moscow asked the base leadership to work on securing immediate evacuation to Russia on the evening of Sunday, December 8, the day after the fall of Damascus, and after the fall of the last military positions and the subsequent paralysis of the rest of the state institutions.
During those events, the issue of asylum or resignation was not raised by me or by any person or party, and the only option presented was to continue fighting in defense of the terrorist attack.
In this context, I emphasize that whoever, since the first day of the war, refused to trade his country's salvation for personal salvation, or to bargain with his people with various offers and temptations, is the same person who stood with the officers and soldiers of his army on the front lines, dozens of meters away from the terrorists in the hottest and most dangerous hotbeds of conflict, and is the same person who did not leave during the most difficult years of the war and remained with his family and people to face terrorism under bombardment and the danger of terrorists storming the capital more than once during fourteen years of war. And whoever did not abandon the non-Syrian resistance in Palestine and Lebanon, and did not betray his allies who stood with him, cannot be the same person who abandons his people to whom he belongs, or betrays them and his army.
I have never been a person who seeks positions on a personal level, but rather I considered myself the owner of a national project that derived its support from a people who believed in it. I carried the certainty of the will of that people and their ability to preserve their state and defend its institutions and choices until the last moment. With the fall of the state into the hands of terrorism, and the loss of the ability to provide anything, the position becomes empty and meaningless, and there is no meaning to remaining responsible in it. This does not mean in any way abandoning the authentic national affiliation to Syria and its people, a fixed affiliation that is not changed by position or circumstance, a affiliation filled with hope that Syria will return free and independent.'

Congratulations to those dim enough to believe it was possible to be anti-Zionist and pro-coup in Syria.
You have delivered the Zionists what was beyond Herzl's wildest dreams. Not only have you eradicated Syria culturally and geographically but you have eradicated Palestine and created Greater Israel. This was always obvious; always inevitable; and the basis of anti-imperialist opposition to this regime change mission. It will now take a Herculean task, which can only be performed by the actually anti-Zionist regional forces of the Resistance Axis, to reconstitute, recover, resupply and reshape the war for Palestine. To do this, it will have to take a much more aggressive posture.
By the eradication of Palestine, I mean something very specific: you have rescued the Zionists from existential defeat by turning this war in their favour. Whether you knew it or not, that was the objective of the chief sponsors of this regime change operation.
For Erdoğan, it's a chance to recover his desperate domestic political position and finally steal the industrial heartlands of Syria, as he has been doing in phases throughout the past decade in an asset-stripping rampage. And to cement, once and for all, the blood ties between Turkey and the Zionist state by redrawing the map of the Eastern Mediterranean and West Asia together.
For Qatar, delivering Syrian territory on a plate to the Zionists supposedly gives them immunity from Trump's cabinet of hawks, underscoring their loyalty to and reliability for the American imperial project in West Asia. The gas and construction billions (and Qatar's consequent increased strategic importance to Europe and the US) that will follow from a new pipeline to Europe and rebuilding Syria's ruins were their key original motivation for sponsoring regime change. Another consequence is that Qatar gets to play at nation-building, something its elites are still sore they couldn't do in Egypt when the UAE launched a coup against the Mursi regime, replacing the Muslim Brotherhood with military dictatorship to cut short the Arab Spring. Fourteen years and billions of dollars of investment in Zionising Syria via various terror factions have also drawn Qatari policymakers much personally closer to the CIA and Mossad, which is useful for the 'mediation' role Qatar prizes so highly.
The Americans have taken the largest and most strategically significant bastion of Arabism (a now defunct idea) and an ally of Russia, the Islamic Republic and China, and will turn it into an economic basket case while telling the world it's a Muslim Singapore. In deposing Bashar, they have decapitated the fulcrum of anti-imperialism in the Levant and the only Arab state leader of the past few decades able to enunciate an intellectually coherent materialist theory of empire, as well as an advocate of de-dollarisation. The rump state carved from former Syria will now be ruled by ISIS-in-suits with Milei characteristics. The Americans have already been ruling a third of Syria (a landmass the size of Croatia) for a decade and stealing all of Syria's considerable oil and wheat resources in one of the most brazen acts of imperial piracy in modern history. Their starvation sanctions have led us to this point more than any other single factor, throttling the rest of the country while Idlib under the ISIS hordes was allowed to trade freely.
For the UK, which has led at different stages of the war alongside the UAE and then Qatar on propaganda for the regime change project, it's also a way of proving to the Americans that this economically unproductive and politically irrelevant rainy little island still has something to offer the Empire in the shape of PR firms, lobbying shops, gun-runners and traffickers of gullible Salafi sectarians.
Last but certainly not least: for the Zionists, it's beyond a dream. They have gone from stasis in an existential war in which they met none of their initial objectives and had to resort to chaotic assassinations, to destroying their largest remaining Arab military foe and having free rein on all of Syria on land should they wish, as well as certain domination of the skies and seas once the Russian naval and air bases are evacuated. They own Syria now, everyone else is just living in it. The Chabad will tell you that, as will Jawlani every time he's interviewed.
Nations can only exist and be sovereign when they control their territory. Syria no longer exists, after having been chipped away at for fourteen years by the most expensive and largest regime change campaign in US history. Frankly, it's a miracle that it was able to survive so long in the face of this David v Goliath onslaught. What exists now are US-held territories and military bases (some of which could be used to attack Iraq); ever-expanding Turkish territory which could result in Aleppo being culturally or politically absorbed into Turkey (a major long-term prize); and a deeply sectarian Damascus regime under former Islamic State in Iraq (ISI) deputy and al-Qa'ida in Syria leader, Abu Muhammad al-Jawlani, which also answers directly to Turkish intelligence.
The ISIS-in-suits regime is likely to sign a Zionisation deal just for sanctions relief, so recovering the oilfields seems unlikely, especially under Trump. But a Zionisation deal being floated may encourage some Syrians to rethink their support for their new ISIS overlords and cause a new domestic Resistance movement to emerge, under extreme punishment and threat from the gaggle of US allies who now run former Syria.

Thanks. Yes, I saw that statement earlier. It was woolly: very Alpacan - a little out there and not too close to home, as if he has been squirreled off to the Hebrides and not Moscow. For a doctor, somewhat opaque and didn't really seem that he wrote it. Doctors of course, are famous for their unintelligible handwriting :)
Apparently he was going to make a video recorded address at the time but nothing seems to have surfaced, at least as I write Up :periscope: (< we need a periscope emoji)

Congratulations to those dim enough to believe it was possible to be anti-Zionist and pro-coup in Syria.
Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said that the criminal regime of Israel would be eradicated.
The Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei made the remarks in a meeting with a group of Iranian women from various walks of life at Imam Khomeini Hosseiniyah.
The meeting was held on the occasion of the birth anniversary of the daughter of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), Hazrat Zahra (SA).
Three years ago, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution in a meeting with Ahl al-Bayt (AS) eulogists, referred to a request from a group of women to hold a meeting on the birthday anniversary of Hazrat Fatemeh Zahra (SA) and emphasized the necessity of such meetings.
The perception of the United States, the Israeli regime, and some of their allies that resistance has come to an end is completely false, the Leader said, adding that the one who will be eradicated is Israel.
Ayatollah Khamenei also underlined that the souls of assassinated Hezbollah and Hamas leaders, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and Yahya Sinwar, remain alive despite their martyrdom.
"Their bodies may have gone, but ... their spirit and thoughts still remain and their path will be continued," he said.
Referring to Gaza's resilience in the face of Israel's daily attacks and the perseverance of Lebanon's Resistance, the Leader emphasized that Iran stands by Palestinian and Hezbollah combatants.
The enemies of the Islamic Republic of Iran understood that the Revolution cannot be defeated with hard methods, they went to soft methods such as propaganda, temptations, and dishonesty, he said elsewhere in his remarks.
Ayatollah Khamenei also called on Iranian women to consider themselves responsible for defending women's issues and preserving the values.
All of that Greater Israel stuff is nothing but an excuse to get thousands more killed. And, it certainly will. This doesn't end. It has only proven they are a wing of the American Air Force, which is mostly useless except for attacking the defenseless. Consequently, when removed from the equation, the eggshell can be crushed completely. I doubt that will happen tomorrow, but there are no good investment opportunities in that future graveyard.
What Assad is saying makes sense only if we find out what happened to the Syrian military. It's understandable the first guard post could have been easily overwhelmed by an "Idlib breakout", but there was enough manpower at Homs to eradicate HTS completely. So, there is a likelihood of an inside job -- but this could have been exacerbated by his "mistakes", i. e., neglecting Iranian tactics in favor of "new friends" in other countries, which put them in a position to pull strings. Smells like Muslim Brotherhood or something along those lines. They may, for instance, pay lip service to anti-Zionism while pursuing foreign complicity in many ways. Thus, we see Turkey and Egypt doing practically nothing, as usual.

AMERICA’S IMPERIALIST BUG" - Deep State Agents MEDDLE in Middle East | Douglas Macgregor https://youtube.com/watch?v=RFOhH...channel=GBNews (18:21)
"Neil Oliver speaks with Colonel Douglas Macgregor about rising global tensions and the Deep State’s oil agenda. From the Middle East to Eastern Europe, are US and UK policies pushing the world toward global conflict? With rivals like Russia, Iran, and China uniting, could this spark a larger war?"
Colonel Macgregor referred to the Deep State as being a coalition of prominent lobbies, congressmen and senators, putting together a plan which was clearly hatched in the 90s. He specifically mentioned Richard Perle, Paul Wolfowitz, Dov Zakheim. who said if they could capture and control the oilfields in the Middle East then China becomes hostage (to the oil, gas etc) and Israel benefits enormously.

More on the Clarissa Ward clown show here. A fittingly scathing response :) Followed by a neat 7min video by Aaron and Melissa Dykes (Truthstream Media) made in 2017 on the embedding of spooks within the organisation - CNN. Nothing new to us here of course but it's a neat little dive:
"Clarissa, do you remember when you descended into "spasms of rage" and accused me of being a drug addict, all because I published a thread containing factual, non-staged videos and photos I recorded in Damascus?
Now, you've just been caught committing one of the most blatant journalistic frauds in recent times, staging a dramatic white savior scene to score another Peabody award, and you can't eke out a single sentence taking responsibility for your behavior. An actual news outlet would have coldly fired you and launched an internal investigation into your past reports. But you work for CNN, where the drive for ratings and imperial propaganda supersedes any semblance of journalistic ethics. That's the only reason you're still on camera."
Re: Israel vs Palestine/Lebanon/Iran/Yemen/Syria: a New Middle East War
The first step of new leader appears to be taken by the United States:
Quote:
US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) propose to create a demilitarized zone in the northeastern Syrian city of Kobani, controlled by US troops, SDF Commander Gen. Abdi Mazloum said on Friday.
The SDF Command earlier said that there is a concentration of pro-Turkeyforces around Kobani.
"To Confirm our steadfast commitment to achieving a comprehensive ceasefire throughout Syria, we announce our readiness to propose the establishment of a demilitarized zone in Kobani, with the redeployment of security forces under US supervision and presence," Abdi said on X.
At the onset of the Syrian war, the SDF declared its autonomy in the northern and northeastern Syrian territories under their control. Local Arab tribes said they wanted to preserve the country's integrity. The Syrian government of the now-deposed president, Bashar Assad, did not recognize the Kurdish autonomy.
Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei has said that the US and Germany are aiding and abetting genocide by continued weapons transfers to Israel that have made them fully complicit in the Gaza genocide.
In a post on his X account late on Monday, Baghaei wrote, “The UN Special Rapporteur, Ben Saul, says: Germany & the United States supply 99% of the weapons exported to Israel. They could stop this conflict overnight if they stopped the weapons that kill the Palestinians”.
“US and Germany are aiding and abetting genocide by continued weapons transfers to Israel that have made them fully complicit in Gaza genocide,” he added.
“Indeed, they are defying all legal norms revolving around 'respect & ensure respect' for IHL as well as their international obligations on prevention & punishment of genocide. They must be held to account for their wrongful & criminal acts,” he further noted.
What a sorry existence it is with its permanent pro-Israeli veto:
Quote:
The head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization has stated that the Zionist criminals make the United Nations ineffective as genocide continues unabated.
Mohammad Eslami made the remarks during a ceremony honoring the martyrs of the Al-Aqsa Flood and those of the Resistance Front on Monday in the Iranian capital of Tehran.
“This criminal group (the Zionists) has effectively rendered the United Nations inoperative—an institution which has always strived for human rights and justice. What stance do international organizations, which have repeatedly adopted positions against the Islamic Republic, now take in the face of these crimes? What role can they play? Is there any hope that the United Nations and the Security Council will do something?” he said.
“In the recent vote at the United Nations General Assembly, 167 countries voted in favor of the Palestinian people’s right to establish an independent state, while only the United States and at most five other countries opposed it. Nevertheless, today this small number plays a decisive role in international affairs, and the vote of the majority of the world's countries is effectively ignored,” Eslami stressed.
“In such circumstances, the front of truth and justice, which has always stood against this current, has a clear duty. This front will not only remain steadfast but will continue on its path with even greater strength and determination to hold these criminals accountable,” the AEOI chief emphasized.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Eslami said that dominant countries try to strengthen their own economies by restricting access to advanced technologies in developing countries and hindering their economic growth.
“Since the victory of the Islamic Revolution, our country has consistently faced sanctions. These sanctions have been imposed due to our refusal to comply with the dominant world order and our steadfast commitment to the principles of the Revolution, including independence, freedom, and the Islamic Republic,” he added.
Eslami, however, stressed that Iran must continue the path of progress with effort and determination despite the current challenges.
“By relying on divine grace and continued effort, we can overcome these obstacles and attain greater achievements,” he stressed.

I don't think this has been shared in the forum yet. I watched it last week.
Sarah explained to Shawn Ryan the connection of Abu Mohammed al-Julani to Osama Bin Laden's son, Hamza bin Laden and talks of how al-Qaeda has essentially started pulling a wide range of terrorist groups together, under the umbrella of his organization, and sort of operating through them behind the scenes.
Here's the Shawn Ryan/Sarah Adams interview. She was a CIA targeter, and wrote a book on Benghazi. Shawn said in one of her interviews that she is the most requested guest in his audience. She's extra-ordinarily knowledgeable and it's fascinating to listen to her and Shawn talk shop, so to speak.
In this episode of SRS, Sarah Adams exposes the hidden realities behind global security threats and government inaction. She discusses alarming intelligence gaps, Taliban funding, Al Qaeda’s evolving strategies, and the unsettling roles of China and Russia in shaping terrorist activities. Drawing from historical events like Benghazi, the conversation challenges listeners to rethink what’s being overlooked in today’s geopolitical landscape.
The discussion also highlights Hamza bin Laden’s influence, the challenges faced by abandoned allies, and the evolving nature of terrorist tactics. Through detailed analysis and candid reflections, Adams provides a nuanced perspective on the complexities of global and domestic security.

What ought to be a must see and hear offering with Alastair Crooke in conversation with Chris Hedges: this will have to go on my tomorrow/weekend list to check out now, but, in lieu of that, Matt Kennard, formerly of Declassified UK provides a really helpful short summary of this:
---
"Alastair Crooke, former MI6 officer and security adviser to the EU special envoy to Middle East (1997-2003), tells Chris Hedges that after the 2006 war in Lebanon a meeting took place between US vice-president Dick Cheney and Prince Bandar, head of Saudi intelligence, in which Cheney was moaning about how the invasion of Iraq was meant to weaken Iran - but now Hezbollah had emerged victorious from the war in Lebanon.
Bandar interrupted and said the Saudi King believed 'we’ve got to take out Syria, which is the weak link in this whole process'. Cheney asked 'what do you have in mind?' Bandar said 'the solution is Islamic revolutionaries, they can work for you'. Cheney backed off and said ‘well, the US can’t do too much about that’. Bandar replied ‘no problem we will do it all for you, it will be done, you don’t have to intervene.’
Crooke says Saudi Arabia was proposing to invert the whole paradigm of the Middle East. In the 19th century and beyond it was Iran, the Shah, which was this big powerful country and the leader in the Middle East. What Bandar was saying was let’s invert it: let’s isolate Iran and make the Sunnis paramount in the Middle East, give them the primacy.
Crooke says the attempt to shift the whole balance around and to give the Sunni world primacy has been part of American policy from 1996 onwards. 1996 was when this idea of working with the monarchs and emirs of the Gulf states against Baathist regimes first - but then against Iran - began."

Re: Israel vs Palestine/Lebanon/Iran/Yemen/Syria: a New Middle East War
The US claimed that Al Qaeda terrorists flew planes into the Twin Towers. Now the US is supporting a 'rebel leader' in Syria who was a member of and swore allegiance to Al Qaeda.
Earlier, ousted Syrian President Assad spoke out about American support for the Nazis.
The US financed the Nazi party so that Adolf Hitler could come to power in 1933, Assad said late last year in a speech translated by the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI).
“Most of us don’t know that the rise of Nazism between the two world wars was due to American support,” Assad said. “The question on everyone’s mind is: How were the Nazis able to rise and build an army despite the German collapse and European restrictions? It was due to American support; money, loans, investments.”
The president cited Ford as an example, pointing out that Americans continued to invest during the war.
It is known that at least one American bank, the Union Banking Corporation, financed Germans with ties to Hitler. The director of that bank was Prescott Bush, the grandfather of George W. Bush. The Guardian newspaper wrote an article about this in 2004, entitled 'How Bush's grandfather helped Hitler to power'. Fox News also wrote about it. The US wanted the Nazis and communists to destroy each other in order to gain control over a weakened Europe, Assad explained. He pointed out that the US did not go to war against the Nazis during the Russian counteroffensive in the early 1940s. “When they realized that the Russians were close to victory, they decided to launch an attack, to seize victory.” Nuremberg Trials
The Syrian president went on to say that the Nuremberg Trials were held for Nazi leaders who did not want to defect to America. Nazi leaders who did want to cooperate were welcomed with open arms in America. The first American missiles were made by Nazis, NATO was founded by German officers, the governor of the German central bank was a close friend of Hitler, Assad listed.
