Re: Israel vs Palestine/Lebanon/Iran/Yemen/Syria: a New Middle East War
Something is going on that will probably be under-reported as an uprising about flight permits:
Quote:
Hezbollah has called on the Lebanese public to join a protest on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at 4:00 PM, in response to Israeli interference and actions that infringe on Lebanon’s sovereignty.
The demonstration will take place on the Old Airport Road.
The call for protest comes after widespread outrage over an incident at Beirut’s Rafic Hariri International Airport. Lebanese citizens were stranded at Tehran’s Imam Khomeini International Airport for over eight hours after being informed that their Mahan Air flight was banned from landing in Beirut due to an order from the Israeli army spokesperson via X.
So, yes, the local authorities draconically canceled the flights because of a perceived threat.
The protest, therefor, is about not groveling in a state of Humiliation:
Quote:
Upon Hezbollah call, huge crowds gathered Saturday on Old Beirut Airport road to protest against the the aviation authorities’ decision to prevent the Iranian plane Mahan, carrying Lebanese passengers, from landing at Rafik Hariri Airport after a threat issued by the Israeli enemy to target he flight.
Holding a peaceful sit-in, the protesters chanted slogans which condemn the Israeli intervention and violation of the Lebanese sovereignty and urge teh authorities in Beirut to disobey the US-Zionist ‘orders’.
Deputy Head of Hezbollah politburo Mahmoud Komati hailed the crowds, stressing that “our permanent slogan is ‘Humiliation is far from us’.”
Komati indicated that Hezbollah is patient, but that patience is limited.
“This state must never accept the Israeli and US dictates, recalling the martyrs who made heavy sacrifices for the sake of the national dignity and sovereignty.”
It is humiliating for the Lebanese state to obey the Israeli dictates and prevent the Iranian plane’s landing at Beirut airport, he added.
Komati affirmed that the Resistance would never accept the Israeli humiliating interventions, highlighting the rejection of any Zionist occupation in South Lebanon.
Later on, the Lebanese security forces fired tear bombs at the peaceful protest, suffocating a number of participants.
It is worth noting that the peaceful protester opened the way for a number of UNIFIL vehicles to pass during the sit-in, which affirms their commitment to the main goal of the event exclusively.
That is to say, the Lebanese government is barely capable of acting independently. There seems to be little question that HZB shows their ineffectiveness around Lebanon generally.
Around this same time, there have been multiple military-grade explosions at a military airfield around Aleppo, making it entirely possible that the IAF was in shooting mode nearby.

500 days on, how Hamas survived Israel’s war on Gaza
--------------
There are less than two weeks left until the end of the first phase of the Gaza ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas.
Palestinians have had some respite from the Israeli military's relentless bombardment.
But after 15 months of war destroyed 70% of the buildings in the strip, most families have nowhere to live.
Convoys of trucks carrying mobile homes and tents are stuck on the Egyptian side of the Rafah border crossing, in the south of the strip.
Under the ceasefire, Israel had agreed to allow 60,000 mobile homes and 200,000 tents into Gaza.
But only a fraction of the number of tents have been allowed in and none of the mobile homes.
Israel is also blocking the entry of bulldozers and heavy equipment needed to clear the rubble.
It considers them “dual purpose” items which Hamas could weaponise.
Meanwhile, an Israeli negotiating team is heading to Egypt for talks.
There have been questions as to whether the ceasefire will hold, with Hamas accusing Israel of repeatedly violating its terms.
A day ago, an Israeli drone strike killed three Palestinian policemen in Rafah.
Yet the US envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff says he believes the deal will absolutely continue for a second stage.

Iraq is taking more banks off the dollar -- in order to harm Iran:
Quote:
Iraq is working with the United States to ban more local banks and financial firms from engaging in US dollar transactions, says a report, amid efforts by the new government in Washington to restrict Iran’s access to international banking services.
The Sunday report by Reuters news agency said that Iraq’s central bank was going to ban five banks and three financial companies from providing dollar-based banking services to its customers.
The report said the move had been agreed in a meeting last week in Dubai between officials of the Central Bank of Iraq and US Treasury and Federal Reserve officials, PressTV reported.
It claimed that the new bans are in line with US President Donald Trump’s so-called “maximum pressure” policy towards Iran as Tehran earns considerable revenues from its exports to Iraq.
There were no comments from The Central Bank of Iraq and the US Treasury.
Iraq had banned eight banks from US dollar transactions last year.
Reuters said the new bans would cover Al-Mashreq Al-Arabi Islamic Bank, United Bank for Investment, Al Sanam Islamic Bank, Misk Islamic Bank and Amin Iraq For Islamic Investment and Finance as well as payment services of Amawl, AL-Saqi Payment and Aqsa Payment.
Iran’s non-oil exports to Iraq generate more than $12 billion a year while the country has a sizable natural gas and electricity exports to its western neighbor.
Baghdad has secured rounds of waivers from US sanctions to be able to maintain energy imports from Iran.
However, the Iraqis have struggled to make payments for the imports amid sanctions that make it difficult for the banks in the Arab country to process the dollar-based payments.
Let's see. That means Iraq is an American footstool, with little integrity or well-being of its own.
That's twenty years after "fixing" it.
And yet they still have to circumvent the strange rules to get electricity.

Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich signed an order today to seize NIS 320 million in Palestinian tax funds, reallocating them as compensation for families of settlers affected by the war.
"There is no more moral and just signature than to prevent the Palestinian Authority from funding terrorism and to garnish its funds for the benefit of the families of terror victims. This is a necessary step in our national struggle against terrorism and against the Palestinian Authority that encourages it," Smotrich stated.
This move is the latest in a series of fund seizures by Smotrich, redirecting Palestinian Authority (PA) revenues to Israeli settlers.
In August, the finance minister confiscated NIS 100 million (nearly $27 million) from the PA in Ramallah, accusing it of supporting “terrorism.”

The Israeli-Palestinian film No Other Land is nominated for an Oscar for best documentary at this year's awards, to be held March 2. It follows the struggles of Palestinians in the occupied West Bank community of Masafer Yatta to stay on their land amid violent attacks by Jewish settlers aimed at expelling them.
Since the film's nomination was announced in January, that violence has continued, with co-director Basel Adra sharing video on social media of settlers rampaging through the village under the protection of Israeli soldiers. Adra, who joins us from London, says the goal of the documentary was not just winning awards but "to get to the people's hearts" through film. "We want people to see the reality, to see what's going on in my community Masafer Yatta but [also] in all the West Bank."

Israel Investigates Efforts to Undermine Relations with Egypt Amid Growing Tensions
The Israeli military is investigating whether foreign or regional actors are spreading false reports to strain relations between Israel and Egypt. This follows Egypt’s protest over fake videos, allegedly showing the IDF’s Arabic spokesperson thanking President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi for aiding Israel in its wars in Gaza and Lebanon. Israel has dismissed the videos as AI-generated forgeries.
Tensions escalated after Israeli Ambassador to Washington, Yehiel Leiter, accused Egypt of violating the peace treaty and building up its military in Sinai. The comments sparked a diplomatic response, with World Jewish Congress President Ronald Lauder meeting al-Sisi in Cairo to discuss regional peace and a Palestinian state.
According to the Egyptian presidential office, the meeting focused on Egypt’s efforts to promote regional peace and establish a Palestinian state. President al-Sisi emphasized that he expects “all involved parties, including Israel, to act responsibly to ensure the ceasefire holds.” Lauder, in response, praised al-Sisi’s leadership for maintaining regional stability.
Although Leiter’s comments were quickly deleted from official platforms, they had already circulated widely in Israeli and American media, marking the first time a senior Israeli official has accused Egypt of blatantly violating the peace treaty.
Meanwhile, the IDF has increased security monitoring, suspecting false rumors about Egypt’s military activity are meant to fuel panic in Israel. Israeli officials say their primary security concern is Jordan’s eastern border, where Iran is allegedly working to destabilize the region.

⚡️🇮🇱BREAKING:
Hebrew Channel 12 reveals that an Israeli airstrike, even before the ground “operations,” nearly killed the recently released female soldiers (observers).
A few weeks after October 7, even before the start of the ground operation, Hamxs moved some of the observers from a tunnel to an above-ground facility. A few days later, that same tunnel was bombed by the IDF and declared destroyed. [They didn’t know that the Israeli female observers were not in the tunnel at the time. If Hamxs had not moved them earlier, they would have been killed by the airstrike.]
However, Hamxs managed to rebuild the tunnel, and the observers were later taken back underground to the same location.

He Shot Two Israelis... Thinking They Were Palestinian
Re: Israel vs Palestine/Lebanon/Iran/Yemen/Syria: a New Middle East War
Here's a couple of wires on the two kinds of "rebuilding":
Yedioth Ahronoth: Hundreds of Lebanese residents have quickly begun rebuilding villages in southern Lebanon, while at the same time, northern residents living near the border fear returning to their settlements
Hebrew Channel 13: In a statement, the head of Al-Metula settlement council urged residents not to return, saying the situation here is unsafe
The Lebanese are doing that while the Israelis are still shooting them.
Now finally in Syria we see shots back at Israelis by an unknown actor:
Unknown gunmen attacked an HTS vehicle north of Hama killing an HTS member and wounding several others;
Syrian resistance group Ola al-Baas attacked Israeli forces near Ain al-Zikr in Daraa province;
HTS arrested several ISIS suspects near Daraa city;
Israeli warplanes attacked ammo depots in the Saasaa area;
SDF arrested four people in the village of Al-Jarthi Al-Sharqi;
Clashes between the SNA and SDF continued near Tishrin Dam;
Clashes between the SNA and SDF continued near Qaraquzaq bridge;
Turkish strikes targeted areas in Ain al-Arab.
They say they attacked Ba'ath ammunition and other things with several strikes:
Quote:
In addition to the strikes, the SOHR said that IDF tanks shelled multiple areas within the Yarmouk Valley in the western Daraa countryside.
Also on the same day, an Israeli armored force advanced towards the town of Bariqa in the southern al-Quneitra countryside. The very next day, another force stormed the town of Aabdyn in the same region and ordered the locals to hand over all weapons and to stop any constructions.
In Syria, the Saudi Arabian influence was removed, and the main player was Qatar, suspected of Zionist collusion:
Quote:
However, the Qatari initiative to “pacify” Syria under the control of jihadists is also an anti-Iranian game to satisfy the Zionists.
The task of satisfying Zionism will be the main foreign policy agenda of Qatar in Syria for the next year at least until the midterm elections to the US Senate, because Doha is afraid of the influence of the Republicans, who currently dominate the Senate. As a rule, it is the Republicans that the US Zionist lobby relies on. Therefore, it is important for Qatar not to irritate the Zionists and to cooperate with them on a number of issues where Iranian influence is at the forefront. The words of the head of HTS that he “prevented a regional war between Iran and Zionism on Syrian territory” are a confirmation of Qatar’s policy of confronting Tehran for the sake of the security of the Zionists.
That comes in light of a "spectacular" visit with new leader. The author's belief is that Qatar is anti-axis of resistance. If they are, somehow, beholden to Israel and serving its whims, then they are just a middleman, since Emir al-Thani continued to Tehran:
Quote:
For his part, Emir of Qatar affirmed that his visit to Tehran is aimed at coordinating stances in area of the regional tensions, adding that the meeting underscored the importance of the constructive dialogue among the various states for this purpose.
Our meeting also underlined the necessity for commitment to Gaza ceasefire agreement as well as the success of the political process in Syria.
He may try his worst, in which case he is proceeding under a watchful eye. Well, he already signed up the country for Iranian architecture last year. They would be in a difficult position to "help Israel, thwart Iran". Maybe they can manipulate Syria somehow for that reason. But besides originally having funded Jabhat al-Nusra, I am not sure what they can really do now, if they were trying.
Instead, the actual anti-Iranian capers of today just vanished along with a vast espionage network:
Quote:
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commander of Iran’s Mazandaran province has announced that intelligence services from the US, ‘Israel’, and other adversarial countries have been actively trying to infiltrate Iran using foreign nationals and frequent travelers as cover.
IRGC provincial commander Brigadier General Siavash Moslemi announced the successful crackdown on Wednesday, stating that the operation not only foiled significant security threats but also prevented potential crises from unfolding.
According to Moslemi, intelligence services from the US, ‘Israel’, and other hostile nations have been actively attempting to infiltrate Iran by posing as foreign nationals and displaced persons. Many of these foreign agents were operating under the guise of commercial companies, cultural centers, and charities, seeking to collect classified data and establish influence networks within the country.
However, IRGC forces were able to identify and dismantle the espionage cells through meticulous intelligence monitoring, the commander added.
I think the Qataris may be like the Saudis, and slowly morph some of their worst knuckle-dragging behavior into something that is tolerable to Muslims generally. It's a type of instinct for survival, that possibly the regime in Jordan won't be able to pull off. That is, it may be susceptible to an Iranian-style popular revolt. I would be surprised if we continue to find Qatar throwing a bunch of money into something that could be construed as "anti-Iranian".
