Re: Israel vs Palestine/Lebanon/Iran/Yemen/Syria: a New Middle East War
Israel has postponed the release of 620 Palestinian prisoners despite Hamas setting free six Israeli captives on Saturday.
The group says Israel's far-right government is 'playing dirty games and sabotaging' the agreement.
The Israeli Prime Minister called the captive handover ceremonies in Gaza, 'humiliating' and is accusing Hamas of using the captives for 'propaganda'.
But aid groups are questioning Israel's unkept promises under the first phase.
It has yet to allow delivery of 60,000 mobile homes and 200,000 tents, desperately needed by millions of displaced Palestinians.
And Israeli negotiators have not joined discussions for the second phase of the deal.
So, what's behind Netanyahu's dramatic turnaround?
And how will it affect the hard-fought ceasefire agreement?
Why has Israel suspended the release of Palestinian prisoners? | Inside Story

In a clear display of dominance, the Israeli occupation army deployed three tanks into Jenin refugee camp for the first time since the Second Intifada in 2000. Analysts view this move as a mere show of force.
The deployment comes after Israeli War Minister Israel Katz announced that the army would remain in the camp until the end of the year, prohibiting displaced Palestinians from returning to their homes as long as Israeli forces remain in the area.

During a meeting with an Iranian delegation led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun emphasized Lebanon’s "significant sacrifices" for the Palestinian cause and voiced support for the Riyadh summit’s stance on a two-state solution.
In response, Qalibaf affirmed Iran’s commitment to respecting Lebanon’s independent decisions, and conveyed Tehran’s readiness to cooperate with Arab and Islamic nations in rebuilding areas devastated by Israeli attacks.

Member of the Political Bureau of Hamas, Izzat al-Rishq:
"The Hamas movement strongly condemns the occupation’s decision to delay the release of Palestinian prisoners. This decision once again exposes the occupation’s evasions and its renouncement of its commitments.
The occupation’s claim that the 'handover ceremonies are humiliating' is a false pretext and a flimsy excuse aimed at evading its obligations under the agreement.
These ceremonies do not involve any humiliation of the prisoners; rather, they reflect a dignified and humane treatment towards them.
The real humiliation is what our prisoners endure during the release process, including torture, beatings, and deliberate humiliation up until the last moments.
Palestinian prisoners are released with their hands shackled and their eyes blindfolded, while their families are threatened not to hold any celebrations to welcome their freed sons.
Netanyahu’s decision reflects a deliberate attempt to obstruct the agreement, constituting a clear violation of its terms and demonstrating the occupation’s unreliability in fulfilling its commitments.
We call on mediators and the international community to assume their responsibilities and pressure the occupation to implement the agreement and release the prisoners without any delay."

During an Israeli army graduation ceremony, Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that Israel is ready to resume war if needed.
"If we are forced to return to fighting, the enemy will face the IDF with power it has never known before. We are preparing for this, and we are ready for this," he said.
Katz emphasized that "the fighting will end with two clear achievements: The defeat of Hamas and the release of all our hostages," adding that Israel is committed to returning all of its captives from Hamas.
He also addressed Israel's plan for Syria: "We are committed that we will not be able to return to the reality of 7 October. There is a new policy in southern Syria. The IDF will not allow hostile forces to base themselves in the security zone in southern Syria, from here to the Suwayda-Damascus route, and we will act against any threat."

Israeli tanks enter occupied West Bank for first time since 2002
Israel deployed the tanks to the Jenin Refugee camp as part of a month-long military campaign that has killed dozens and displaced tens of thousands of Palestinians
Israeli tanks entered the Jenin refugee camp in the occupied West Bank on 23 February for the first time since the Second Intifada in 2002, WAFA news agency reported.
Israeli forces isolated homes in the western part of the camp yesterday by surrounding them with barbed wire after forcing the residents to evacuate.
The Israeli army has also been raiding towns around Jenin, including Silat al-Harithiya and Qabatiya.
Local sources told WAFA that Israeli forces stormed Silat al-Harithiya and took up positions in several streets, forcing shop owners to close their shops.
Israeli forces imposed a curfew, bulldozed streets, and destroyed infrastructure in Qabatiya, WAFA added.
They also cut off the road leading to Jenin city at the town's entrance and deployed snipers on building rooftops after raiding homes and detaining and interrogating residents.
Tel Aviv has also expelled the residents from three refugee camps in the occupied West Bank as part of its ongoing military operation. The campaign began on 21 January and has destroyed homes, killed dozens, and displaced tens of thousands, the BBC reported on Sunday.
Israel's Defense Minister, Israel Katz, said the camps in Jenin, Tulkarm, and Nur Shams were now "empty" and would be occupied by the Israeli military for the coming year.
Israel's actions in the West Bank come as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced he would delay the release of Palestinian prisoners under stage 1 of the Gaza ceasefire.
The Prime Minister's office said on Sunday the release of Palestinian prisoners planned for yesterday has been paused "until the release of the next hostages is guaranteed, and without the rituals of humiliation."
Israeli officials were angered after the video went viral on social media showing an Israeli captive in Gaza, Omer Shem Tov, kissing the foreheads of two Hamas fighters and waving on a stage during a public ceremony marking his release in the town of Nuseirat.
Hamas released five other Israeli captives from Gaza on Saturday as well.
In response to Netanyahu's statement, Hamas said Israel's delay in releasing the seventh batch of Palestinians "at the agreed-upon time constitutes a blatant violation" of the ceasefire agreement.
