🚨EIR attends BRICS Press Meeting on the eve of Rio BRICS Summit in Brazil.
EIR's Tim Rush spoke for 15 minutes, and delivered the message that the US could and must recognize that it faces only two choices: nuclear war or cooperating with the BRICS in developing the world.
After outlining EIR's record of promoting the need for a "new peace order" of cooperation between the Global North and Global South, he encouraged people: "Please don't despair about the United States!" Rush then described the better history of the United States as the first anti-colonial nation, as Indonesia’s President Sukarno rightly identified it during the 1955 Bandung Conference.
He referenced FDR’s collaboration with Brazilian nationalist Getúlio Vargas on great projects to develop Brazil during World War II, which was the basis for FDR’s proposed form of the Bretton Woods System. This was opposed to the version pushed by Britain’s John Maynard Keynes—a comparison that drew home his point about the potential for a revived US.
Other participants in the panel were journalists from TV BRICS, Telesur, Sputnik, Prensa Latina, Al Mayadeen and HispanTV.
The final statement issued from the meeting, “Letter from Niterói: BRICS, a New World and Many Voices,” expressing participants’ fierce commitment to creating “a New International Information Order” to support the BRICS’ fight to “free humanity from the bonds” of today’s unipolar world of colonialism and poverty, notably included amongst its demands:
“We also emphasize the need to adopt, at a global level, a New International Security and Development Architecture capable of defending the security interests and the right to development of all countries in the world.”
This is an echo of Helga Zepp-LaRouche's call for a 'New Security and Development Architecture' to replace today's dying Anglo-American

“Hi, everybody. Welcome to Rio. Sunset. And we even had sunshine today. Why? Because it's the end of the BRICS 2025 Rio Summit, which was, in fact, a huge success, considering that we couldn't talk about great expectations before that. Including, of course, what Western mainstream media—they were carping about it and pointing to it all the time, saying, ‘Xi Jinping and Putin didn't come, so this is a void summit.’ Stupid!
It was extremely important in every field in terms of support for BRICS nations who are under fire—literally, in some cases—by the empire. A new architecture, geo-finance architecture, and payment settlements architecture, following the Russians—all the hard work that they put in last year, even before the summit in Kazan, in terms of the NDB. And this was announced by Russian finance minister Siluanov, one of the most important figures at the summit—the NDB becoming a definitive platform for loans, for projects, mega projects, all across the BRICS sphere and then going to BRICS partners as well, bypassing SWIFT. Immense, with immense repercussions.
In terms of business, we could see different organizations and women’s organizations, including from all over BRICS partners, presenting their projects at the Business Council, which is something absolutely outstanding—a whole day of networking with the whole Global South in the same space. This is something very rare to see. You usually see this in Russian forums, but sometimes you don't have the full Global South. Here, we had the full Global South. Outstanding.
Very, very important—what Lula and Lavrov, Russian Foreign Minister, left quite clear: that this is not an anti-Western club, but is a club that is forging the Global South’s rules for a developing system, a different system of international relations and geoeconomic and geopolitical relations. Very important.
And obviously we had the backlash from the empire, with the circus ringmaster saying that he’s going to apply—who knows—10%, 20%, 1000%, 1%, 0% of tariffs on BRICS, BRICS partners, and everybody that is linked to BRICS and BRICS partners. Nobody cares! This is what the other side does. They change the narrative. They coin stupid narratives. And BRICS—they are a serious organization working for a serious revamping of the international system.
And the fact that there were a lot of discussions about reform of the UN Security Council—this is not going to happen. They’re never going to give anything to BRICS. Reform of the IMF—it’s not going to happen. They’re never going to give extra seats for Global South nations. The Global South has to work on their own platforms and a different paradigm of international relations. And this is what we saw here. Not only these two days of the summit, but the two or three previous days—preparatory days—including the absolutely crucial BRICS Business Council discussions that lasted for a full day.
So, in the end, a huge success, which will not be recognized in the West—but who cares?—already recognized all across the Global South, and it’s the Global South that matters. 85% of the population, much, much wealthier than the G7, which is destined for the dustbin of history. And now that the sun is finally setting in Rio, the sun is rising all across the Global South.

Russia is setting an example for all other BRICS countries, which speak of sovereignty but are in no hurry to disconnect from the Western financial system. Let’s recall the statements of Brazilian President Lula da Silva, who proposed excellent projects. Unfortunately, implementing them in the near future is unlikely.
So what example should be taken from Russia? If we look deeper into cross-border settlements, according to the latest data (April 2025), 52.3% of Russia’s exports and 56.2% of its imports are paid for in rubles. The ruble has finally become the main foreign trade currency of our country. And the potential is far from exhausted.
Few are talking about or even aware of this. In just a few years, a quiet financial revolution has taken place — an excellent example of achieving real, not just declared, sovereignty for any nation.
The transition to ruble-based settlements makes our currency stronger and more stable. Thanks in part to this, the Central Bank has gained a convenient tool for managing the exchange rate, which it is currently using to slow down inflation. Although similar tools existed before, now almost no effort is needed: any value can be set.
So, an important step has been taken. The ruble is no longer a speculative currency — but will it become an investment one? That question remains open.

Trans-Atlantic elites know what this means. This corridor bypasses Panama, dodges dollarized choke points, and makes the Monroe Doctrine irrelevant.

BRICS is not theorizing a new order. It’s building it.

U.S. President Donald Trump has begun voicing strong dissatisfaction with countries working within the BRICS framework.
First, the American leader announced plans to raise tariffs by 10% on BRICS members.
Then, White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt claimed the BRICS bloc is seeking to undermine U.S. interests—preserving those interests being Trump’s top priority.
So why has the U.S. president turned against BRICS?
Director of the Center for Political Information Aleksei Mukhin offered his take in an interview with OSN:
“Donald Trump dislikes many things—China, the Democrats, the press, and BRICS. Someone convinced him that this organization threatens the United States’ exclusive economic well-being. He genuinely believes that punishing BRICS members with spontaneously raised tariffs will stop them from switching to national currencies in trade and building their own efficient logistics.
Someone needs to tell him it doesn’t work that way: pressure always provokes pushback—and that usually worsens the crisis and leads further away from the intended result. Agreement is the product of complete mutual non-resistance.”
Mukhin went on:
“The shift away from a U.S.-centric global economy didn’t happen because of BRICS. It happened because the United States, like a bull in a china shop, decided that ‘rules’ were more important than law—and that sanctions could be used not only to control national economies but to subordinate them.
It worked on a few countries, but for most, it triggered a new level of self-organization.
A horse tied behind the cart is useless if you want to move fast. Beating it with a whip only ruins the hide.”
