If you can’t shake your opponents hand after a sporting event then you don’t understand competitive sports and don’t deserve to participate, IMHO.
In contrast! (I was fascinated to read this.)
The TG post below is in Russian, but here's the translation:
The Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation will invite athletes from Ukraine to the World Friendship Games and ensure the safety of their stay in the country. The games will be held from 15—29 September 2024 in Moscow and Yekaterinburg. Of the Olympic sports, basketball, boxing, athletics, swimming, rhythmic gymnastics and others will be presented.
— Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin

I’d love to see them compete on the ball field or the mat, the pool, the ring, just not on the battlefield. We humans need to do better. We must do better. We absolutely CAN do better.

Yes, perhaps one of western man's few legitimate ideas is The Olympics.
Particularly because it intends competition of *amateur* athletes.
Of course, here, at least, there is very little motivation to have an "amateur career"...but maybe we should question "professional sports". Is this not basically a modern form of exploitation?
Couldn't all the money that makes it possible for a single person to shoot basketball really be applied towards something productive?
And what happened to pickup basketball games? Once upon a time, it made a real community.
Amateur competition = real grassroots stuff, and good sportsmanship will make you welcome anywhere in the world.
Throw in money and steroids, and, well, here we are.

The main motive for the (overwhelming majority) pro-Brexit sentiment and vote in *England* was open-ended, massive and chronic, deliberately encouraged and defended mass immigration (plus the official subsidizing and privileging of recent immigrants over natives, in all areas of life) - both of which have increased even further since pseudo-Brexit.
*Anyone* who opposes - or even notices - this long-term process of deliberate national destruction, is regarded (by the ruling, wealthy. powerful, influential classes) as a vile and dangerous person, and usually excluded from their livelihood (if possible).
Do Albanian narco-terrorists qualify as "immigrants"?
Excerpts from article:
Since the 1990s, the United Kingdom has been one of the staunchest supporters of Albanian expansionism (mostly fueled by their unrelenting narco-terrorist tendencies). At the time, London sent its intelligence services to Albania where they worked closely with their American, German and other NATO counterparts to set the stage for a terrorist insurrection in the southern Serbian province of Kosovo and Metohia. The KLA (Kosovo Liberation Army), an Albanian terrorist organization that was based on a volatile mix of radical Islamism and narco-terrorism, was formed with NATO’s direct participation, particularly the UK and US intelligence services.
This was one of the firsthand accounts of what the wanton “rules-based world order” is. The result has been that this illegal NATO-backed entity became a safe haven for all sorts of illegal activities.
Hundreds of thousands of Albanians have moved to the UK since the 1990s and tens of thousands of them are still entering the country illegally.
Albanian narco-terrorists now dominate the UK’s cocaine market. [not bad for a South American product]
In a very similar manner to how NATO (particularly the UK) handled ultraradical groups such as Al Qaeda, causing a surge in terrorist attacks, as well as the emergence of numerous other similar terrorist groups, staunch support for Albanian extremism has resulted in almost identical disastrous consequences. The only difference is that these Albanian narco-terrorists have managed to gain a stronger foothold through various criminal activities, particularly drug smuggling, something that even Al Qaeda considered immoral.

A small thing, but it's really quite common now.
The text:
Yesterday, the Ukrainian Ministry of Sport lifted the ban on participation of its athletes in competitions where Russians compete, and today Ukrainian sabre fencer Olga Kharlan took to the track against Russian Anna Smirnova at the World Fencing Championships.
The Ukrainian won the bout. After the bout, the Russian approached her opponent to shake her hand, but in response Harlan put her sabre forward and left the track.
According to the rules,
fencers must shake hands after the bout, otherwise they can be penalised, up to and including disqualification. Whether any sanctions will be taken against Harlan is still unclear.
Update:
The International Fencing Federation
decided to exclude Ukrainian sabre fencer Olga Kharlan from the World Championships after she refused to shake hands with Russian Anna Smirnova.

Death threats now. An update, from Readovka News.
Text:
Russian sabre fencer Anna Smirnova started receiving mass threats from Ukrainian provocateurs on social networks - the athlete's coach commented on the girl's condition amid the harassment
After the incident with the disqualification of the Ukrainian athlete because of refusal to shake hands with the sabre fencer Anna Smirnova, performing under the neutral flag, the Russian athlete was subjected to massive attacks from Ukrainian provocateurs in social networks: they threatened her, wished death to herself and her loved ones. At the moment Anna has switched off her phone and is resting, her coach Valerian Feoktistov told Readovka.
According to Valerian Feoktistov, except for the incident with a Ukrainian woman holding out a sabre instead of shaking hands, there was no more aggression against the Russian athlete because of her nationality. Tomorrow Anna and her coach plan to leave Milan and return to Moscow.
Re: Russophobia: why do so many people in the west hate and fear Russia?
I've long suspected that underneath the bile and vile hatred of Russians and Russiophobia is fear.
It's so much easier to hate on something than to admit anything, which is the unpalatable truth NATO equipment is not up to scratch.
I mean, what hasn't been sent? The Germans sent Leopards. The Brits sent Challenger 2s. Americans sent Abrams and F-16s.
I don't think they'll get sent F-35s because as soon as those start getting shot down nobody's going to want to buy them.
What's one wonder weapon that hasn't been sent? Stealth bombers? Have those ever been employed against modern air defence?

Re: Russophobia: why do so many people in the west hate and fear Russia?
- Blame EVERYTHING On Russia Because Why Not Russiagate Made EU Paranoid Monthly Daly June 2023:
Listen to Clare Daly speaking in the EU Parliament in June 2023. The cries foul about the EUs paranoia with Russian interference and puts the EU in its place when it comes to their own human right abuses. She also calls out France for its treatment of Lebanon and argued forcefully for less European interventionism abroad. Clare Daly and Mick Wallace are the conscience of the EU.
Clare's First and Second Speeches:
Breaches of the Rule of law and fundamental rights in Hungary and frozen EU funds (June 1)
Madam President, I voted for this report. Hungary is a rule of law basket case, but it’s not the only one. We’ve Spain, where the UN Human Rights Committee has twice ruled that the treatment of the Catalan independence politicians by the Spanish state breaches their rights. In France, we have people’s rights continuously and systematically violated under the guise of counter-terrorism, while protesters met with spectacular violence. Bulgaria is a catastrophe. Croatia kidnaps and tortures migrants knowingly and gets rewarded by the Commission with Schengen entry. Italy is rounding up and arresting humanitarian workers. The Greek Government is spying on journalists. The Irish Tánaiste is attacking the free press. Latvia is taking elderly people to take language tests or be expelled.
And what is Parliament’s response to all of this? The usual cynical nonsense. Political groups blocking debates are only promoting them when they’re a chance for you to have a go against your political rivals. But you reap what you sow in this stuff. If politics is prioritised over the rule of law, then the rule of law breaks down. It’s time to cop on and realise the same rules have to apply to everyone.
Re: Russophobia: why do so many people in the west hate and fear Russia?
Hate is blinding. The enemy of Russia is my friend doesn't work.
Look at the state of this:
Trudeau's government gave a HUGE standing ovation to an actual Nazi SS veteran because he fought against Russians before it was fashionable... in WWII. Is anyone else's face hurting after reading that? If so sorry and condolences. This must be the ultraDERP of the century.

Justin Trudeau & his government smeared the 2022 Canadian Convoy protesters as Nazis & racists, but he, President Zelensky & Canadian lawmakers gave a standing ovation to an actual Nazi SS veteran in the parliament a few days ago. Full live video:
