Zelensky commented on the situation at the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant, stating that the world is ready to respond to any incidents. Here is a grab at some missing insight.
Islam in Russia is there, of course, due to military exploits of Caliphates, shortly after the time of Prophet Mohammed PBUH. This established what came to be known as Volga Bulgaria, which in turn was instrumental in beating down the Khazarian Empire.
In about the same time frame as Khazaria was being degraded, Kievan Rus began to consolidate. Once it was open to possibly becoming Islamic, which wound up getting refused because the king did not like its ban on alcohol.
For all this time, there has been an Islamic culture based around Dagestan, which perhaps did not get the greatest support from anyone else, but, at least it remained intact.
As one might guess, the Soviets changed everything. Islam was kicked out to Bukhara. Simple whitewashing types of things, turning everyone into robots.
Subsequently, it has been difficult to re-integrate. Here is the challenge to it:
If in previous periods Islamic identity suffered from a combination of malign neglect and active repression, the Kremlin’s urgent need to consolidate society in 2022 has led it to project a unity of purpose, ideology, and identity across the country’s ethnic, religious, and other dividing lines.
This unity, of course, is largely fictional – and 2022 has made that clearer than ever before, provoking a sense of grievance among many of the country’s ethnic and religious minorities. And the inordinate burden borne by minority communities from the North Caucasus to East Siberia has deepened the sense that these supposedly constituent units of the Russian Federation are, in fact, being treated as colonies of a Russian empire.
It goes to a mediumishly-long article by Alisa Shishkina, a Russian sociologist:
...the first university-type madrasah in the Caucasus was built in 1075, becoming the center of the spread of Islam in the region in the Middle Ages.
And now:
In Russia’s North Caucasian republics, high rates of unemployment as well as large-scale social transformation, intensified migration, and the growing influence of globalization have largely led to the erosion of young people’s sense of identity: The old social regulators no longer work, and new ones have not yet been established. The processes of post-Soviet political, economic, and social development created both demand for Islamic education and the conditions for radicalization in Islamic institutions — in part as a response to social dislocation, economic breakdown, and poor governance.
The situation is further complicated by the Islamic revival that has gained momentum in recent decades, which began after the collapse of the Soviet Union and emerged as a response to decades of Soviet suppression of religious identity in the USSR’s historically Islamic republics. By now, in the Muslim-majority regions of Russia, a rather strong demand for religion has arisen on the part of young people in particular.
Part of the problem is the Russian state is so fair, it cannot directly support a religious school.
The Soviets evidently let Dagestan rot while installing the entire infrastructure of Ukraine.
Compared to the Caliphate seizing part of the Caucasus. whether for good or ill, here is why their neighbors were not Islamic.
Khazaria: "Judaism is older".
Russia: "Orthodoxy has wine".
Firstly those are not what I would call interesting theological discussions, and secondly the things that have negatively affected inter-cultural relations do not seem to be any process of debate or interface whatsoever. Just arbitrary blanket policies that govern you. They didn't happen to be of Russian origin.
And it still comes out as the same medieval situation. The Islamic culture which probably holds value is dependent almost solely on private contributions in order to function. The less successful this is, the more likely the vacuum will be filled with "radicals".
The linked article does explain a bit about some intra-Islamic creeds, which we, or at least I, have almost no concept.
Unemployment and poverty are still so widespread in those areas, there is no quick fix.
What we don't see is crusading, or paranoia about how one infiltrated the other's faith, there is nothing really pro or con Islam or Christianity. However among the Muslim population may not be the most glowing support of the Russian state, it perhaps could be argued that ones such as Kadyrov are idealists, attempting some kind of post-Soviet experiment that really has no answer.
No one in the west can say they know anything about having the remains of an original Caliphate in your country.
Again my thanks to all who have posted on this potential crisis, proving again the special value I receive from Project Avalon; especially Bill, Tintin, and the redoubtable Ravenlocke...
I regard it as vital that we understand such matters - even if we cannot always do anything substantive (at least materially) to prevent them -- except that the more people know in advance, the less likely it is actually to happen (which is, I guess, why Russia is doing so much to spread advance awareness).
Of course, unless there is a change of Western leadership, then eventually They will achieve the nuclear-plus escalation They have been working for. The fact that there is no such change, and extremely little pressure or even desire for such change, in the Western nations - is evidence of broad social culpability, which means the Western masses are very far from innocent of what is happening.

Situation in Zaporozhya direction as of 10:00 (Moscow time)
During the night AFU went on the offensive, without equipment, 50-70 people on foot from both sides came in. A small arms fight in the trenches ensued.
The enemy was stopped and our artillery started to destroy them. Till 4 o'clock our artillerymen dealt with finishing of the scattered groups in farmsteads and houses in Pyatihatki.
From 9 am two groups tried to come to the aid, most likely there should have been a rotation. We met them with artillery, inflicted damage. They dragged the wounded - the cars are no longer coming.

As of 08:00 on July 5, the water level in the Zaporizhzhya NPP cooling pond has not changed. Currently, it is 16.56 m.
The water level in the channel of the TPP, from where the ZNPP pond is fed if necessary, is at the level of 11.15 m . Note that the water level in the canal has not dropped significantly recently, its indicators no longer depend on the Kakhovsky Reservoir.

Ukrainian Officer Expresses Dissatisfaction with French Tanks while France Burns:
The French-made vehicles can easily be penetrated even without suffering direct hits, thus constraining operations in a high-intensity conflict zone.
“The guns are good, the observation devices are good, but unfortunately, there is thin armour, and it is impractical to use them in the front line,” the officer added, warning against “just sending out the vehicles so they get destroyed, I consider it is impractical and unnecessary because it’s primarily a risk for the crew.”
As the Germans found, there is no need to blow up Leopards at the train station, since they are also field-disposable:
Ukrainian forces entered a Russian minefield south of Mala Tokmachka, and there, the 33rd Mechanised Brigade and the 47th Assault Brigade of Ukraine reportedly lost three of their 14 Leopard 2A6 tanks, 16 of their 109 M-2 infantry fighting vehicles and three of their six Leopard 2R engineering vehicles – apparently within minutes.
They have some new thing called "The Farmer", which can lay out fields of multiple types of mines at a furious pace.
And--speculations aside--recent events played into the hands of a more serious nuclear threat, Belarus:
Conspiracy theories have been circulating, without any evidence whatsoever, as is often the case, about the whole Wagner affair in Rostov being a stage “psy-op”. In the real world, when a state successfully and efficiently neutralizes a crisis and even reap advantages to its national interests out of it, this of course does not necessarily mean the state manufactured the whole crisis in the first place. It would seem however that nowadays anything goes for the sake of Russophobia: even accusing the Russian President and key Russian officials of colluding with mutineers to shoot down Russian pilots.
On June 1, Lukashenko stated the West was plotting a coup to overthrow his government – something which has always been in the West’s interest. On June 14, Lukashenko said that his country would “take care” of Ukrainian saboteur’s raids and provocations, mentioning Ukrainian activities in the Belgorod region as an example of such. He stressed, however, that a “full-blown aggression” against his country, such as sending “troops”, and not just “small units” would be a “red-line”. The day before, June 13, he had already said that an “aggression” against Belarus would be the only valid reason for employing nuclear weapons: “I believe it is unlikely that anyone would want to wage war against a country that has such weapons. It is a weapon of deterrence. God forbid if I have to make a decision to use this weapon in modern times. But I won’t hesitate should there be an aggression against us”.
Sounds to me like first-strike deterrence. But, if he enfolds part of Wagner into his own army, Ukraine will probably talk about it.
The rest of this sounds like what became World War I--a few meters of trench fight.
Orwell commanded CIA director Burns to turn Russia into France:
The head of American intelligence revealed in a lecture at the Ditchley Foundation in the UK on July 1 that his agency plans to explore the possible opportunities for infiltration that would arise from the weaknesses of a Russian society allegedly dissatisfied with the conflict in Ukraine. This would be, according to him, an appropriate occasion to advance anti-Russian plans in the intelligence sector.
“Disaffection with the war will continue to gnaw away at the Russian leadership beneath the steady diet of state propaganda and practiced repression (…) That disaffection creates a once-in-a-generation opportunity for us at CIA, at our core a human intelligence service. We’re not letting it go to waste”, he said.
Two days later, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky went public to reveal that his regime is constantly in cooperation with the CIA, and there are no secrets between them. Recently, Zelensky and Burns met during a director’s visit to Kiev. On the occasion, the neo-Nazi leader talked to the US official about many “important things”, such as what Ukraine “needs” to keep the proxy war on Russia.
“My communication with the CIA chief should always be behind the scenes. We discuss important things – what Ukraine needs and how Ukraine is prepared to act (…) We don’t have any secrets from the CIA because we have good relations and our intelligence services talk with each other (…) The situation is pretty straightforward. We have good relations with the CIA chief, and we are talking. I told him about all the important things related to the battlefield that we need”, Zelensky said.
According to an anonymous source linked to the American government interviewed by CNN, Burns’ visits to Kiev are frequent, despite the fact that media outlets often do not pay attention to these events:
“Director Burns recently traveled to Ukraine, as he has done regularly since the beginning of Russia’s recent aggression more than a year ago (…) As with other trips, the director met with his Ukrainian intelligence counterparts and President Zelensky, reaffirming the US commitment to sharing intelligence to help Ukraine defend against Russian aggression”, source said.
Furthermore, Burns’ words about an alleged public CIA recruitment of Russian citizens through Telegram sounded unconventional. This type of strategy sounds amateurish and ineffective in terms of security, since Telegram is an easily accessible network and Russian forces could act against citizens who search for the CIA there – in addition to infiltrating their own counterintelligence agents in the process of recruitment.
Either Burns made this announcement as a bluff to try to “scare” Russia by demonstrating that it was advancing intelligence operations, or in fact the CIA is desperate in its search for agents on the ground in Russia and is making basic strategic mistakes. In both cases, it is clear that American intelligence does not seem prepared to defeat Russia.
On the heels of the “mutiny”, Putin has declared that “Ukraine” is no longer a sovereign state. He has a legal basis for that claim since the Western Ukrainians repudiated the legal agreements that made them a state!
But this is known not to work by ex-CIA Johnson:
The US spymaster’s assessment of the situation, however, was not shared by Larry Johnson, a retired CIA intelligence officer and US State Department official who told Sputnik that Burns sounded “delusional” and has apparently “lost touch with reality.”
“Russia is not suffering massive losses of personnel and it is thwarting Ukrainian offensive actions that are completely inspired and backed by NATO. So essentially, Russia is fighting NATO and defeating NATO so far. So how does that translate into dissatisfaction among Russian citizens?” Johnson inquired. “It underscores how out of touch and ignorant the intelligence agency is with respect to what's going on in Russia.”
He further speculated that the “exact opposite” might be true, as people in the United States who are unhappy with what he described as a “celebration of homosexuality and transgenderism” in the country, as well as with the “entire push towards treating people unequally because of their skin color” under the guise of “diversity, equality and inclusion” – might be inclined to cooperate with Russian intelligence.
“So now is the time when I think Russia would be more effective and enjoy more success recruiting than the CIA simply because that kind of recruitment is always predicated on dissatisfaction and unhappiness or alienation. That alienation is rampant in the United States,” Johnson mused.
“It's just stunning to me because, number one, that's not how you recruit. We're not hiring a barista to work at Starbucks. We're not advertising for a software guy that can come in and create video games,” he explained. “When you're trying to recruit people that are going to spy, betray their country for you, you normally want to make sure that you're recruiting people who actually have access to information that's valuable and important. And the last person you want to recruit is somebody who is spending all their time surfing telegram channels and then says ‘Hey, I think I'll join the CIA!’ It's ludicrous.”
Johnson also pointed out that, during the times of the Cold War, the United States could use its economic power and 'greater freedom' label to entice Soviet people to spy for Uncle Sam.
“Well, that's certainly not the case now. The reality is there are more political prisoners in US prisons today, that far surpass any so-called political prisoners that are being held in Russia,” Johnson remarked. “The punishment that is directed against people for expressing unpopular viewpoints, in some areas in the United States they're criminalizing the very expression of saying that there are no such thing as transgender.”
Just spiffy--in the States, you tell the truth after you leave office. Otherwise, all posts are under the Ministry of Truth.

Did the southern Russian states get so dominated, yes. It is well-adjusted, minus the soul vacuum from the Soviets, plenty of reason to say they want it to function normally and peacefully, despite some normal materialistic hurdles. They know internally it is better for the population, and, who would want any loose ends for Burns to clutch at?
