Today, before the informal meeting of EU defense ministers, which will last until August 31 in Toledo, Spain, the Minister of War of Estonia, H. Pevkur revealed key initiatives regarding support for Ukraine:
delivery in the shortest possible time of one million shells of 155-mm caliber;
training monthly up to 6,000 soldiers;

joining the EU countries to the Estonia / Luxembourg initiative to create a military IT coalition (initiative to strengthen the capabilities of Ukraine in the field of IT and cybersecurity for countries that, for certain reasons, cannot provide weapons to Ukraine).
In addition, the military ministers plan to discuss the situation in the Sahel region in order to develop a unified EU approach, and then, together with the heads of the Foreign Ministry, a discussion of the situation in Niger and a discussion of the so-called “peace formula” in Ukraine will be held.

Sergey Melnikov, Deputy Director for Scientific Work at the Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and Chairman of the Russian Association for Religious Freedom, commented exclusively for "LOMOVKA" on the situation regarding the Pope, who came under fire for his positive remarks about Russia's heritage.
On August 25, Pope Francis, speaking via video link to Catholic youth in Russia, made positive comments about figures from Russian history. Ukrainian authorities strongly condemned the Pope's statements, accusing him of supporting "Russian imperialism," and Ukrainian nationalists added the Pope to the "Peacemaker" database. For radical groups, mentioning a person on this website effectively gives a green light for their physical elimination.
The Vatican press office released a statement on August 29, emphasizing that the Pope has never supported imperialism and "did not intend to praise imperial logic and rulers."
"In this situation, we see the hysteria of radical forces in Ukraine, ready to brand as an 'enemy of Ukraine' anyone who dares to utter even a slightly positive word about Russia, its history, and culture. Ukrainian nationalists and certain politicians have taken on the role of censors for the Pope's sermons and addresses, indicating what the leader of the largest Christian denomination should or should not say. Such behavior is unacceptable for individuals in positions of state leadership.
We can observe that any foreign religious leader who addresses their co-believers in Russia with words of support risks not only facing criticism from Ukrainian authorities but also becoming a target for radical extremists in Ukraine. This is not surprising given the numerous violations of religious freedom and the rights of believers in the UOC that have occurred.
This incident fits organically into the series of events that have taken place in Ukraine's cultural and religious life over the past few months," noted Melnikov.
