Not that the now late John Pilger would have wanted this to have unfurled this way, but he was bang on the money back then. That the Guardian newspaper published this as well speaks volumes to its demise today: it is little more than an intelligence agency pamphlet these days.
As predictions go, and as a historical primer, this is right up there.
In Ukraine the US is dragging us towards war with Russia

Still worth a reread I think.
Filmed from her car this Russian speaking local Kharkov resident films practically deserted streets in the city, yesterday, following the new mobilisation law that kicked in. There are no English subtitles but as an optic tells the tale really quite clearly. She says that most of the men have gone into hiding as we would expect. No doubt some extraordinary fantastic PR will be spun, somehow, to downplay this, but this may be irretrievable now. Couple scenes like this with the trucker convoys ( :muscle: ), and bolt on the expiry of Zelensky's tenure, tomorrow, then we may be witness to a spectacular unravelling in Kiev, and perhaps an acceleration of the end.
It'll be interesting to witness what, if any, vacuum there may be in the Rada this week, and in the government as a whole. Bankhova bunkers? Zelensky run out of town, or secreted away? Who knows.

Putin's only real fear: NATO Imbeciles :jester:
Phil Butler
New Eastern Outlook
Sat, 18 May 2024
Poland's Foreign Minister, Radoslaw Sikorski, said, "Russian President Vladimir Putin should fear a war with NATO." In a chest-thumping address before the Sejm, the lower house of his country's parliament, the former debating club champion predicted Russia's imminent defeat should Putin dare attack.
This is how we know NATO would not stand a chance. When former Washington think tank "generals" who are not soldiers predict victory, it usually means a strategic situation is desperate. Sikorski, whose genius is revealed in the scores of photos with him and Donald Rumsfeld, Hillary Clinton, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and others, will be first on a plane for Tahiti if war does break out. The potential fallout of such a conflict is so severe that he and other members of the infamous Bilderberg Group will all jet to remote islands where the impact will be minimal. Let me explain.
Let's pretend that Poland's 500 dilapidated tanks were to toe the front line along with however many of Germany's 200-something rusty Leopards at the onset of WW3. With a few tens of thousands of US, French, reluctant Italians, and Romanians, and the stalwart Brits thrown in during the first days, the East of Poland and Romania would quickly resemble Dresden, Germany, at the end of WW2. NATO's biggest problem is putting American and UK boots on the ground on a front that would be over 2500 miles long. You see, it's not only the Russians who have a problem with long borders to defend. Russia has about 13,000 tanks and 4,500 aircraft, despite what Bloomberg experts may tell you.
The problem with Western propaganda is that the propagandists end up believing their own lies. The rationale for decades has been that the U.S.S.R. or later Russia, has not attacked because of NATO. If memory serves me, it has never been Russia on the offensive. Still, the fear is stoked for the obvious reasons. Money for guns and missiles that may or may not work. In Ukraine, I am told, all the amazing German tanks sent to help Zelensky are burned-out hulks now, and the air defence systems are virtually worthless against hordes of drones. Just because Mr. Putin has not called up another 2,000,000 reservists or made a killer thrust through Belarus into Northeastern Ukraine does not mean he cannot. The problem with Sikorski and those like him is that the rest of NATO (however unfit) IS NOT THERE! The Russians and Belarusians are.
Russia is not afraid of Poland or NATO. Vladimir Putin and his countrymen stand nothing to gain from all-out war. This is why the Russians will never attack in force. This is why Ukraine has not already been decimated. The holding action the Russian military has been in since Kherson was taken has been to preserve Russian lives, and the lives of civilians in Ukraine. Russians consider the Ukrainians as brothers and sisters. Only America's NATO push and re-indoctrination of the people in Ukraine are the main causes of this conflict. Western media does not tell citizens in Iowa, USA or Manchester, England, that Russia's military operation is a defensive one. All anyone reads, sees, or hears are broadcasts and subliminal messages painting Russians and Putin as barbarians.
Watch any Netflix series long enough, and some bad old Russians will pop up sooner or later. Ditto for Amazon Prime, cable, network TV, and every newspaper in the United States. Imagine the magnitude! As far as I can recall, the only times Russia has gone military have been when the United States tried to give them "their own Vietnam," as deceased Russia hater Zbigniew Brzezinski coined the Afghanistan affair.
The only thing Vladimir Putin fears about Poland or NATO is that imbeciles like Radoslaw Sikorski may finally stir their people to do the unthinkable. Putin fears, as I do, the false bravado and lies from the mouths of Bilderberg creeps.

❗️🇷🇺⚔️🇺🇦 Result of the missile attack on Crimea
During the night the SKU carried out another attack on Crimea. First, drones were launched from several sides towards the peninsula, the launch of which was observed both near Tarkhankut and Yevpatoria.
▪️ But after midnight, the main attack with ATACMS ballistic missiles took place. The target of the attack was the Bay of Sevastopol, where 12 tactical missiles were fired.
▪️ Units from several areas of Sevastopol and Belbek fired nine rockets in several salvos. Three rockets hit one of the piers in the bay where one of the ships was stationed.
🔻 As we can closely observe, the SKU is increasingly active and is conducting large-scale attacks against bases on the peninsula. After several waves of attacks on airfields and power supply facilities, the Sevastopol Bay was again targeted.
Equally important, about ten drones were in the airspace west of Sevastopol and Belbek. They did not fly close to the peninsula and were possibly carrying out objective control.
❗️ At the same time, an American RQ-4B drone was located south of the peninsula, also monitoring the results of the attacks on Sevastopol. At the same time, due to the impact of the REB systems, interference occurred, which gave the false impression that the drone was several kilometers from Crimea.

🇺🇦 The front is commanded by criminals — Rada deputy Bezuglaya has returned from Ukrainian frontline
▪️ The new commander of the Joint Forces Command, General Sodol, is a criminal, as well as his deputies. He put his own people in high positions: Galushkin, Sokolov and Lutsenko not for their merits, she said.
▪️ "Galushkin screwed up Kharkov's defence. Sokolov has criminal proceedings on him and is now in charge of a section of the front. Lutsenko screwed up the breakthrough in Ocheretino and is not punished," the MP wrote.
▪️ "No general was punished under either Zaluzhny or Syrsky. Nothing has changed. Army general's factions continue to destroy our future, and Syrsky is part of the process," Bezuglaya concluded.

Russian Troops Liberate Belogorovka in Lugansk People's Republic 4 hours ago
MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Russia’s Ministry of Defense reported on the progress of the special military operation, including the number of decimated militants and locations liberated.
Russian forces took full control of the village of Belogorovka in the Lugansk People’s Republic, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Monday.
"As a result of active hostilities, units of the Yug group of forces entirely liberated the settlement of Belogorovka in the Lugansk People’s Republic, strengthening their positions," the statement read.
The Yug Battlegroup also defeated Ukrainian forces near four villages in the Donetsk People’s Republic. Ukraine lost more than 340 military personnel, three tanks and an array of Western-donated artillery systems.
The Tsentr group of Russian forces improved their foothold in the Donetsk People’s Republic, dealing heavy blows to Ukrainian troops near the villages of Umanskoye, Netaylovo and Ocheretino and repelling a counteroffensive near Solovyovo. Ukraine lost more than 330 military personnel, a tank, two German-made Marder infantry fighting vehicles and a US-supplied Bradley fighting vehicle.
The northern group of Russian forces pressed on with their offensive in the Kharkov region in the past 24 hours, killing and wounding up to 380 Ukrainian military personnel and repelling two counterattacks.

Kharkov Defensive Lines 'Just Don't Exist' - Ukrainian PoWs 15 minutes ago
As Russian troops demonstrate steady gains in the Kharkov area, liberating settlement after settlement, the truth about poor Ukrainian defenses in the region has come to light.
The Russian Ministry of Defense (MoD) has shared a video showing the interrogation of Ukrainian PoWs who served in the Kharkov region.
The soldiers in the video voluntarily surrendered to the Russian Army and shared that they joined the armed forces as part of the forced draft without proper combat training.
Commenting on the deplorable state of the Kharkov defensive lines, one of the men said that they "just don’t exist".
“The conditions were subpar, there were no firing points, there were no shelters, there was nothing,” he revealed.

On the night of May 20, Russian forces launched a new series of strikes against targets in the Ukrainian rear regions. Russian strikes were reported in the southern Odessa, eastern Kharkiv regions and in the territories under the Kiev control in the Donetsk People’s Republic. In the morning, explosions thundered in the Poltava region, while several more waves of Russian strikes are likely to destroy targets in Kharkiv and its outskirts.
After a short pause, Russian forces resumed daily strikes on the Ukrainian military facilities in the Odessa region. The region was targeted by Russian kamikaze UAVs for the second night in a row. Russian strikes in the city of Odessa and in other settlements in the southern region destroy the points of accommodation and rehabilitation of the military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Main Intelligence Directorate, as well as facilities of the port infrastructure, which were used as military warehouses with weapons and ammunition, including those supplied from abroad.
The Ukrainian military facilities in the eastern regions located near the frontlines are regularly pounded by Russian drones and missiles. Amid the ongoing Russian offensive in the Kharkiv region, Russian aircraft destroy the areas of accumulation of the Ukrainian military and their facilities in the city of Kharkiv and its outskirts. The city is pounded by various types of Russian missiles as well as heavy bombs with planning and correction modules.
More Russian strikes inflicted heavy damage to the Ukrainian rear facilities in the areas of Chuguev, Kupyansk, as well as to the Ukrainian military accumulated in the towns of Liptsy and Vovchansk, where the Armed Forces of Ukraine attempt to stop Russian offensive.
The Russian military maintains its dominance in the air over Ukraine. The constant massive strikes on the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the strategic rear regions and near the frontlines allow the Russian military to disrupt Ukrainian military supplies to the battlefields and the operation of the entire military-industrial complex of Ukraine.

What fate awaits the Slovakian repair hub for Ukraine's Western-supplied weapons
As Western powers continue to send whatever weapons and military hardware they manage to scrounge up to Ukraine, the fate of a European facility created to aid the regime in Kiev may be hanging in the balance.
Germany and Slovakia are currently negotiating a lease extension for a repair hub established on Slovak soil to repair military vehicles supplied to Ukraine by Germany and France.
The facility was built in 2022 by a European defense contractor called KNDS (a product of a merger between German arms manufacturer Krauss-Maffei Wegmann and French weapon maker Nexter Systems), and its lease is due for renewal this year.
While all parties involved seem to be “supportive” of the lease’s extension, “lot of complications have arisen” since this scheme was enacted two years ago, says international consultant and US Army veteran Ret. Lt. Col. Earl Rasmussen.
Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico and President Peter Pellegrini, both of whom were elected after the KNDS facility was built, favor a peaceful resolution of the Ukrainian conflict and do not advocate further military aid to the regime in Kiev, Rasmussen explains.
“So we have a complete changeover, both from the presidential side as well as the parliamentary and the prime minister side from when the contract was initially put together,” he surmises. The recent assassination attempt on Fico may also complicate this situation further, he points out.
Rasmussen does argue, however, that the lease on the KNDS facility will likely be extended, though Bratislava would probably continue to oppose sending Slovakian weapons to Ukraine. “I think they'll be very cautious what type of weapon systems are actually repaired there as well,” he adds.

Just how much can someone be out of touch with the reality of the situation.
That's why the West has spectacularly misjudged Russia's capabilities to fight this war, it's economic and financial resilience and the ongoing support of Putin by the Russian people.
Meanwhile Ukraine continues to suffer enormous losses, it's economy and financial system destroyed and the ongoing loss of more territory, it will never get back.
The war should have ended in April 2022 when an agreement was reached between Kiev and Russia.
Instead to save political face and enrich the MIC, this insane war continues with a Ukrainian survival rate on the front line worse than in WW1.
The West should be ashamed of our role in this utter debacle.

World leaders know Ukrainian conflict can only be resolved by US-Russia talks
The upcoming summit in Switzerland, ostensibly intended to help achieve a peaceful resolution of the Ukrainian conflict, appears to have been snubbed by many of the prospective participants due to the “unrealistic approach” adopted by the event’s organizers, says Paolo Raffone, a strategic analyst and director of the CIPI Foundation in Brussels.
During an interview with Sputnik, Raffone points out that not only Russia was not invited to the summit, but the conference itself is aimed at promoting the so-called Zelensky ‘peace formula,’ a scheme that includes the demand for Russia to cede a part of its territory to Ukraine as a precondition for ending the Ukrainian conflict.
“Such an unrealistic approach is the reason for many invitees not attending. The countries that have chosen not to attend are aware that a dialogue in the absence of Russia does not represent ‘the legitimate interests of the parties’,” he explains.
“Moreover, no peace talks are well funded if not based on reality. Any meaningful peace talks imply that the Ukrainian government must recognize the ‘new territorial realities’.”
“World leaders are aware that any resolution to the war in Ukraine can only find a settlement between the real world powers underpinning the events, notably Russia and US,” he adds.
“While behind the scenes contacts and talks are continuing, the majority of world leaders believe that the time is not yet ripe for ‘peace talks’ and that in any case the starting point cannot be other than the document drafted and mostly agreed in Turkiye in March 2022.”
The analyst also observed that the implementation of Zelensky’s plan would be impossible without the “direct military intervention of Western countries,” and that it has already become clear that “none of the Western countries will officially send troops to fight in Ukraine against Russia.”
