Romani Resistance Day Is About More Than Memory
May 16 marks a famed Roma uprising against Nazi death camp guards. Against a backdrop of rising right-wing hatred, we need to draw on that defiance and humanity.
Seventy-five years ago, on May 16, a spring day in Poland, 6,000 Romani people — elders, men and women, girls and boys — who were imprisoned in Auschwitz-Birkenau, barricaded themselves in the “Gypsy Camp.” They prepared to fight back and stand up against the Nazis’ extermination plan for that evening.
Locked up between barbed wire, wooden barracks, gas chambers, and cremation ovens, they could see, smell, feel, and touch death everywhere around them: the death of their loved one, the death of another Roma, the death of a Jew, the death of a gay man, the death of a Pole, the death of a human being.
And yet, in the face of catastrophe, the Romani people in the Zigeunerlager stood up, spoke up, rose up. Hugo Höllenreiner, then 11 years old, recalls hearing his father protest against the Nazi guards: “We’re not coming out! You come in here! If you want something, you have to come inside!”
We have come such a long way since then. We have reached a point when in some regions, Romani political thought, Romani institutions, and Romani scholarship are no longer only about Roma, but with and by Roma. The European Roma Institute for Arts and Culture, Roma Studies Programs at Central European University, Harvard, and other places are authoritative examples in that sense.
Yet Romani communities across the world are still under threat — even more so today, when the enduring slur of Romani criminality is exploited, both online and offline, as a weapon for anti-Romani violence. It is fortified by fake information, fake DNA police evidence, racist intellectuals, neo-Nazi groups, and vigilante groups.
Meanwhile many Europeans have remained silent in the face of so much inhumanity. The world neglected the killing of the five years old Robbi Csorba and his father, ten years ago in Hungary. Greeks did not react when Yannoula, a 13-year-old Romani girl was shot dead in Greece in 2018. Italians stayed silent while the number of racially motivated attacks in Italy tripled from 2017 to 2018.
Europeans may not even know or care about the killing of the 23-year-old David Popp last year in Ukraine or the cruel anti-Romani mobs in Italy and France in the past few months. No matter whether Roma live in Eastern Europe or Western Europe, the U.S., Brazil, Argentina, or Canada, we are all doomed to being blamed collectively simply for being Roma. And the racecraft of Roma inferiority allows gadje to morally justify their indifference and inaction in the face of harm and violence.
We are often told that we are a nation of survivors, but we often forget about our ancestors, who stood up and resisted in the face of misery, very much like the 6,000 Roma did on May 16, 1944, against the Nazis. And too often, we forget to honor them. Too often, the lack of spaces, memorials, history books, and museums prevents us from remembering.
Truth-telling and the collection of historical data are important for establishing a memory of the past and generating an enduring account of anti-Roma violence. And so, today, we pay tribute to our resistance and tell the truth about the persecution of our Roma communities during the Holocaust.
The non-Roma, gadjo world can and must learn from the fascinating history of the Romani people, who from one generation to the next have managed to remain compassionate, not hostile; forgiving, not vengeful; and unfortunately, even obedient to the oppressor, yet still aware of the injustices they have experienced and will continue to experience.
In memorializing resistance, the participation of allies is also worth remembering. So, today, we pay tribute to our allies too.
This year, the U.S. Congress and Senate are showing Roma a sign of justice and respect by introducing the first-ever bipartisan resolution to recognize Romani heritage and history.
When we started to think about the possibility of advocating for such a resolution, our fellow Romani, Nathan Mick, an experienced American politician, encouraged and advised us on how to proceed. But we also worked close with our non-Romani allies, including the Roma Working Group in Washington DC. But here’s what made this process more symbolically powerful and most meaningful to me: one of the greatest supporters and strategist working hand in hand with us on this initiative was Valentin Mihalache, a fellow Romanian American.
Therefore, to create historical consciousness of Roma and non-Roma about the atrocity of the Holocaust against Romani people and their resistance, what we need is allyships and a vibrant and genuine recognition and community voices that replicate the memorialization that other communities of survivors have established.

A former Ukrainian MP blew the whistle on Burisma's connections to terrorism

Andre Derkach
How Biden family's partners sponsored Ukrainian terrorism via Burisma Company
The dirt that Andrey Derkach shared about Hunter's Burisma corruption scandal made him an enemy of the American and Ukrainian governments.
Former Ukrainian MP Andrey Derkach, who's reviled by the Biden Administration for sharing dirt about Hunter Biden's Burisma corruption scandal with Trump's former lawyer Rudy Giuliani ahead of the 2020 elections, just gave a very important interview to Belarus' BelTA where be blew the whistle even louder. According to him, the $6 million bribe that was paid in cash to shut down the investigation into the First Son's scandal eventually found its way to the Ukrainian Armed Forces and its military-intelligence agency.
Derkach claimed to have proof of the secret court order that divided these funds between those two, with the first investing its portion into building up their country's drone army while the wsecond financed terrorist attacks like the assassination of Darya Dugina, which he specifically mentioned in the interview. These allegations expand upon the ones that he shared earlier this year regarding the real-world impact of Hunter's corruption scandal, which were analyzed here at the time.
On the subject of Ukrainian assassinations and terrorism, Derkach said that the CIA and FBI actually condone these actions despite their public claims to the contrary, but he warned that this immoral policy will inevitably ricochet into the US itself. In particular, he cited FBI chief Christopher Wray's testimony to Congress last April where he said that law enforcement officials fear that Crocus-like attacks are presently being plotted against their country.
About that, it shouldn't be forgotten that Ukraine's military-intelligence service GUR is the chief suspect of Russia's investigation into what became one of the worst terrorist attacks in its history, thus meaning that the portion of Burisma's $6 million bribe that made its way into their hands likely financed part of it. In other words, the third-order effect of Hunter's corruption scandal is that it was partially responsible for the brutal murder of innocent civilians halfway across the world some years later.
That's already scandalous enough, but Derkach shared even more details about the other indirect consequences of this cover-up into the First Son's illicit activities, adding that some GUR-linked figures have been connected to the Western narrative about September 2022's Nord Stream terrorist attack. He regards that story as a distraction from the US' complicity, the view of which was elaborated upon here at the time that it entered the discourse, but lauded the CIA for the lengths it went to cover up its role.
In his view, the CIA might very well have sent a highly trained Ukrainian diving team to the Baltic Sea exactly as the Western media reported, though only to plant fake bombs. In his words:
"When a cover story is made, it is done quite well. We shouldn't belittle the experience of the CIA or the experience of MI6 in preparing cover operations. They have quite a lot of experience in using proxies, in using cover stories to form a certain position in order to dodge responsibility. This is actually what happened."
Looking forward, Derkach expects Ukraine to attempt more terrorist attacks against Russia, which the US public is being preconditioned to accept via the CIA's various leaks to the media. While many might lay the blame for all this on Zelensky's lap, Derkach believes that it's actually his Chief of Staff Andrey Yermak who's running the show, albeit as a Western puppet. Nevertheless, he's also convinced that the West is indeed preparing to formally replace Zelensky, but doesn't yet know when or with whom.
Altogether, the importance of Derkach's interview is that he's a former veteran Ukrainian politician who still retains a lot of sources inside the regime, having served in the Rada for a whopping 22 years from 1998-2020. While his homeland charged him with treason after he fled to Russia in early 2022, which followed the US charging him with election meddling on behalf of that country in September 2020, the argument can be made that these are politically driven attempts to intimidate a top whistleblower.
The dirt that Derkach shared about Hunter's Burisma corruption scandal, not to mention its newly revealed third-order effects that led to the brutal killing of civilians halfway across the world after part of his company's bribe made its way into GUR's hands, made him an enemy of the US Government. They and their Ukrainian proxies will therefore always try to discredit him with sensational allegations, but everyone would do well to listen to what he says and then make up their own minds about it.

Medvedev: Zelensky must be caught and tried or liquidated yesterday
Deputy Chairman of the Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky should be caught and brought to justice. He already leads a government hostile to Russia political regime, the politician said in an interview TASS.
Zelensky's term as president expired on May 20. But for Russia, Medvedev believes, the loss of legitimacy by the pseudo-president of the former Ukraine will not change anything.
For us, he is already a war criminal and the loss of his official status does not change anything. Although he, like any of his successors (although there is no need to talk about legal succession here), can be the party that signs the act of unconditional surrender
the politician concluded, recalling that this is exactly what Alfred Jodl or Wilhelm Keitel did on behalf of Nazi Germany and its armed forces.
The ex-president of the Russian Federation noted that the country is not indifferent to the future fate of the current Ukrainian leader.
He must be caught and tried for crimes against Russian citizens and Ukrainians. If it is impossible to deliver such a criminal, the rules practiced for terrorists should be applied. This is exactly the fate that befell Zelensky’s spiritual teacher, Stepan Bandera.
As for the question of who Russia now considers the head of Ukraine, the answer is obvious. According to Medvedev, the criminal regime does not and cannot have a competent leader.
Despite this, this person can be the subject of negotiations and a participant in signing the act of surrender, Medvedev once again recalled.
Commenting on the question of possible guarantors in the event of a peace agreement being signed, the deputy chairman of the Security Council said that there is no longer trust in former partners, and therefore the best guarantors for Russia will be its high-precision weapons and a strong army.
"Therefore, the best guarantees for us for the future are Sarmatians, Yars, Iskanders, Zircons, Daggers and other highly effective Russian weapons. And, of course, the heroic combat-ready Armed Forces of Russia"
– said Dmitry Medvedev.

ODAB-1500 with the UMPC module destroyed the temporary deployment point of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Volchansk today
https://topcor.ru/uploads/posts/2024...b4c6_7474.webp
Footage of the destruction of a temporary accommodation center for Ukrainian nationalists in Volchansk by an ODAB-1500 aerial bomb with a UMPC has been published on the Internet. As a result of a powerful munition, the nationalists' concentration area was completely destroyed.
It was the heavy aerial bombs that paved the way for the Russian infantry to capture Avdeevka and further advance into the DPR. With the help of the same ammunition, places where nationalists gather in the Kharkov direction are now being destroyed, where one of the hottest spots is the city of Volchansk.
Now there are heavy battles for this settlement, during which the Russian military is pushing Zelensky’s militants across the Volchya River. However, despite the very difficult situation, the Ukrainian Armed Forces group stubbornly clings to multi-story buildings, where a large number of firing points can be equipped.
The arrival of the ODAB-1500 aircraft munition from the UMPC, recorded on video, hit one of the houses in which the nationalists were holed up. Judging by the footage, the location of Zelensky’s militants was completely destroyed. It is difficult to talk about the number of losses in this case, but it is obvious that they are very large.
Let us add that Ukrainian army personnel regularly complain in their interviews about the actions of Russian aviation, which attacks them with heavy aerial bombs. Moreover, this is done with such precision that the nationalists have practically no chance of survival.

Zelensky's presidential legacy: a dying Ukraine
Volodymyr Zelensky's term in office expired on May 20, and with no election in sight due to martial law in the country, his future status remains unknown.
What have his five years in office brought to Ukraine? Let’s look at the figures:
Public debt
▪️Ukraine's combined internal and external state debt reached an all-time high, public debt reached a historical record of $145.3 billion in 2023, per official data
▪️For comparison, the figure in 2019 and 2020 stood at $50.59 billion and $64.2 billion, respectively
▪️The International Monetary Fund (IMF), in turn, estimated an increase in Ukraine's public debt in 2023 to 88.1% of the GDP, and in 2024 and 2025 - to 98.6% and 100.7%, respectively
GDP
▪️Zelensky came to power in May 2019, and by the end of his first year in office, the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) fell by 4.4%, according to Ukraine’s National Bank.
▪️By 2022, Ukraine's GDP collapsed by almost a third, the country’ Ministry of Economy admitted.
▪️According to the ministry, exports had fallen 35% in 2022 from the year before, and physical volumes of production were down 38.4%.
Migration
▪️At least six million people have left Ukraine over the past twenty months, and about four million more have remained in the new Russian territories, per Kiev-based Institute of Demography and Social Research of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine
▪️The IMF’s statistics put Ukraine’s current population at 33.7 million people as compared to 44 million before Zelensky’s presidency
▪️“The fertility rate in Ukraine has already fallen below 1, while for population growth, the figure should be more than 2. If nothing changes, the next few years will see twice as many pensioners in Ukraine as compared to workers. There will be no one to create the GDP in the country,” the Ukrainian Institute of the Future think tank acknowledged.

Germany-initiated air defense action for Ukraine: Does it make sense?
Twelve countries are ready to join Germany’s Immediate Action on Air Defense (IAAD) initiative to provide Ukraine with air defense systems, the German Ministry of Defense announced on May 20.
Belgium, Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway and Canada will help financially, while the US, UK, France, Spain, Romania, and Lithuania will provide missiles and equipment, with Latvia also seeking to join the initiative. But is the program feasible?
◻️ Ukraine now reportedly has three Patriot systems, with Volodymyr Zelensky telling CBS News last month that Kiev needs at least seven more to help “unblock” the skies;
◻️ Germany has thus far delivered one Patriot installation to the Ukrainian Army and reportedly mulls supplying another;
◻️ There are controversial reports on whether Spain will do the same, with El Pais newspaper arguing last month that Madrid agreed on the Patriot supplies to Ukraine after the Spanish government was pressurized by NATO and the EU;
◻️ Reportedly showing unwillingness to deliver the Patriots to Ukraine are France, the UK, the Netherlands, Poland, and Romania;
◻️ The US is considering sending one Patriot system to Kiev within the IAAD framework amid speculation that Washington may finally scrap plans to provide Ukraine with the systems;
◻️ Since the beginning of this year, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have lost 11 launchers of anti-aircraft missile systems, including five Patriots, the Russian Defense Ministry has reported.

US and EU’s Ukraine strategy ‘has failed entirely’ – Hungarian FM
The strategy that Europe and the US have developed as a response to the Ukraine conflict "has failed entirely," Hungary’s Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said at the Sasakawa Peace Foundation in Tokyo on Tuesday.
The minister touched upon the divisive rhetoric some European officials indulge in when bringing up a potential deployment of Western troops to Ukraine. He called for doing "everything to avoid a direct confrontation between NATO and Russia."
Speaking about the danger of such a development, the minister stressed that "there is no way the Hungarian military will take part in it, there is no way Hungarian territory will host such actions, there is no way a single eurocent of the Hungarian taxpayers will be allocated for it."
Regarding a yet another sanctions package aimed at crumbling Russia, Szijjarto pointed out that the initial draft of anti-Russian sanctions sought to “push Russia to its knees economically."
"Is Russia on its knees? Far from it. Are we close to ending the conflict? Definitely not," he emphasized, adding that, on the contrary, the sanctions had an adverse impact on the EU economy.

💸Profits from frozen Russian assets to go to Ukraine: what's known so far
EU members have approved a plan to use the profits generated by frozen Russian state assets to support Ukraine, Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky tweeted on Tuesday.
According to him, the move means the Kiev regime will receive $3.3 billion in 2024, with 90% of the sum due to go to the military, which will reportedly get such assistance twice a year.
The plan also stipulates that Ukraine will be provided with the net profits from February 15 onwards. About $172 billion of frozen Russian assets have already generated a net profit of $605 billion since that date.
Meanwhile, Bloomberg reported that the US is ready to provide Ukraine with a loan backed by frozen Russian assets if Washington gets EU guarantees that the loan will be repaid and the assets will remain frozen.
The US’ G7 allies have reportedly been warming to Washington’s scheme to rush tens of billions of dollars in funding to Ukraine before Donald Trump’s potential return to the White House. The scheme, due to be discussed at a June summit, purportedly envisages Kiev receiving money “upfront from a G7 loan.”
Most of the immobilised Russian funds, roughly $232 billion, are held in the EU, while the US has frozen only a fraction of Russian funds, about $5 billion. In April, the US House of Representatives passed a bill to allocate $60.8 billion in aid to Ukraine, a document that also allows for the transfer of frozen Russian assets to Kiev.
Russia has repeatedly warned that using its frozen assets to assist Ukraine “will have legal consequences for those who initiated and implemented it." Moscow has also rejected the possibility of exchanging new Russian regions for the country’s assets frozen by the West. “Russian assets must remain inviolable, otherwise, Western theft will be met with a harsh response,” the Kremlin said.

🇷🇺⚔️🇪🇺Statement of The Russian Mission to the EU:
Today, the European Union, firmly on the path of self-destruction, has, without exaggeration, opened a new page in the history of both international monetary and financial relations and its own integration.
The Yesovites consciously took an unprecedented step - the theft of the sovereign assets of a foreign state. This is a clear example of what “European values” and the “rules-based order” imposed by Westerners are. In this particular case, one of these “rules” was a certain “legal justification” invented in the Euroquarter for fraud with income from illegally blocked assets of the Bank of Russia.
In fact, the EU has demonstrated to the entire world community that from now on it feels entitled to steal the financial reserves entrusted to it, to abandon its obligations to protect private property and investments, and to respect international legal immunities. Thus, theft is officially elevated to the rank of tools of Brussels' foreign policy .
❗️The consequences of the created precedent will definitely be unpredictable, including for the eurozone, the economies of the bloc’s member countries, and the investment climate. Only one thing is predictable - sooner or later the EU members will be forced to return what was stolen to our country.

Ukrainian Drone Attacks Territory of Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant 2 hours ago
https://cdn1.img.sputnikglobe.com/im...c5656.jpg.webp
MOSCOW (Sputnik) - The Ukrainian armed forces have attacked the territory of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant with a drone, the plant's press service said on Wednesday, adding that no casualties and damage were reported.
"The Ukrainian armed forces attacked the territory of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. A kamikaze drone hit the territory of the transport workshop of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. There were no casualties or critical damage," the plant's press service wrote on Telegram, adding that shelling of civilians, as well as the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant and its infrastructure, is unacceptable.
Located on the left bank of the Dnepr River, the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant is the largest nuclear facility in Europe. It came under Russia's control in early 2022 and has since been repeatedly shelled, raising safety concerns. IAEA experts have been monitoring the situation on-site since the fall of 2022.

Re: WW3? Ukraine/US vs. Donbass/Russia
Kiev forces launched overnight yet another wave of rocket and drone attacks on Belgorod and two other Russian regions.
The attacks began late on May 21. The Russian Ministry of Defense reported the interception of a single drone over the Bryansk region.
Early on May 22, the ministry said that three more drones were shot down over Belgorod and another was intercepted over the Kaluga region. Later in the morning, at least six Grad rockets were intercepted over Belgorod, according to the ministry. Photos of the successful interception were posted to social media.
No losses were reported in Bryansk and Kaluga. However, Belgorod governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said that a train was hit by a drone in the region
“This morning, a train running without passengers was attacked by an UAV [unmanned aerial vehicle] on the Belgorod-Naumovka rail track. There are no casualties but the railway track and a power grid have been damaged,” the governor said on his Telegram channel.
Suburban train traffic from the Tolokonnoye station in the settlement of Oktyabrsky to the Naumovka station has been suspended until technical faults are removed, the governor added.
Ukraine intensified rocket and drone attacks on Belgorod and several other Russian regions in recent months. The main aim of these repeated Ukrainian attacks is apparently to make up for the never ending failures of Kiev forces on the battlefield.
In response to these attacks, the Russian military resumed large-scale group strikes against military and energy infrastructure in Ukraine last March. Furthermore, the Russian military launched earlier this month a limited ground operation in the Kharkiv region, the source of most recent attacks on Belgorode.

Russian Army Destroyed 30 Ukrainian Boats, Neutralized Dozens Of Troops In Kherson
The Russian military destroyed 30 boats of Kiev forces in the Kherson direction over the past day, the region’s Russian Governor Vladimir Saldo said on May 22.
In addition to the losses reported by Saldo, the Russian Ministry of Defense said in its daily briefing that the Dnepr Group of Forces naturalized 35 Ukrainian troops, seven motor vehicles as well as four towed howitzers, two American-made M777, one Msta-B and one D-20.
Kiev forces began launching attacks across the Dnieper River in the Kherson direction after the failure of the spring counteroffensive of last year.
Most of the attacks were foiled. However, Kiev forces managed to keep a bridgehead at the small settlement of Krynki at the cost of thousands of troops and hundreds of pieces of military equipment. This didn’t last however as earlier this week it was confirmed that the bridgehead was wiped out and the settlement was once again under Russian control.
Despite suffering heavy casualties in Kherson and losing ground in several other directions, the Kiev regime will not likely stop attack attempts across the Dnieper.
The main purpose of Ukrainian attacks in that direction was always just to provide enough propaganda material to appease Kiev’s backers in the West.
