❗️"Our goals today are more modest. We will not be able to negotiate or proclaim peace for Ukraine here in Bürgenstock".
It was with this frank statement by Swiss President Viola Amherd that today's summit began:
If we want to encourage everyone to start a peace process, at some point Russia has to be involved. That is clear to everyone. As the international community, we can help prepare the ground for direct negotiations between the parties to the conflict. That is what we are here for.

Canadian boat sails into Havana’s port following Russian ships
The Canadian navy patrol ship HMСS Margaret Brooke sailed into Havana’s port, Reuters reported, following the Russian Northern Fleet group of ships arriving off the coast of Cuba earlier this week.
On June 13, the American USS Helena submarine also arrived at Cuba and docked at the Guantanamo naval base. The Associated Press claimed that the US Navy submarine arrived “as a show of force” in response to the visit of Russian ships.

‘Isolated’ Ukraine and allies don’t want peace with Russia – analyst
“You can't really have a peace conference with two parties in a war and one party's not involved,” said Jeremy Kuzmarov, the managing editor of Covert Action magazine. “It's not going to go anywhere. So this is just a pure charade for public relations to make it seem like Ukraine wants peace, when really they don't.”
The analyst joined Sputnik’s The Final Countdown program to discuss Ukraine’s summit at a luxury Swiss resort this weekend, which has been criticized for not including representatives from Russia.
“There has been ample opportunity for a peace settlement going back to the Minsk peace agreement, before the advent of the special military operation,” he noted. “Angela Merkel admitted that Ukraine only signed that to buy time to build up its military capability and repeatedly violated it through its attacks on eastern Ukraine and the people there.”
“Ukraine, I think, is more and more isolated in the world community,” Kuzmarov continued. “There are revolts going on in Europe right now and we see the impact at the polls, that a lot of Europeans want to see the war ended and want better relations between their country and Russia… And they're making their voices heard at the polls. So, these governments that are aligned with Ukraine in Europe, for instance, are exceedingly unpopular among their own people.”
Recent polling demonstrates that Zelensky’s strongest backers in Europe are increasingly viewed unfavorably by the public. British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is viewed favorably by only 21% of Britons (YouGov), while German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s approval rating stands at just 20% (DeutschlandTrend). A recent survey by Elabe for daily Les Echos revealed that less than a quarter of voters “trust [French President Emmanuel] Macron to tackle the problems France faces.”

Romania denied visas to Russian delegation to OSCE PA - Russian lawmaker
Russian parliament has received a notification from the Romanian Foreign Ministry that it would not issue visas for members of the Russian delegation to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Parliamentary Assembly, said Grigory Karasin, the head of the Russian upper house's foreign affairs committee.
"A session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly was scheduled to take place in Bucharest at the end of June. So, we, the co-founding country of this organization, received a note from the Romanian Foreign Ministry. It states that... none of the members of the Russian delegation will be issued visas or allowed to enter the country," Karasin said on Telegram.
He slammed Romania's move, saying it was "contributing to the destruction of this once useful organization for cooperation in Europe."
Last week, lawmaker and leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia Leonid ****sky said that Russia is likely to part ways with the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly if it did not receive an invitation to the next session of the organization in Romania.

The UK is limiting the development of its own economy, whose growth rate remains at an extremely low level, the Russian Embassy in London said in a statement, commenting on the new British sanctions against Russia.
“By methodically limiting the country’s development with its own sanctions measures, London has apparently finally accepted the ultra-low... growth rates of the British economy," the embassy said.
The United Kingdom on Thursday expanded the list of sanctions against Russia, adding more than 40 individuals and organizations.
The Russian embassy emphasized that the difficult economic situation in the UK is largely the result of such “futile foreign policy reckless moves by the Conservative government in its last weeks in power.”
The ultimate beneficiary of such measures in any case would be the United States, which the UK serves without receiving anything significant in return, the statement added.
“Ironically, the ultimate beneficiary of this policy, even if it had a chance of achieving results, would not be Great Britain, but the United States, with its more developed financial infrastructure and LNG export potential. The British themselves, diligently serving their senior overseas partners, since the Brexit period, have never received anything significant from them in return, including the cherished free trade agreement,” the Russian embassy said in a statement obtained by Sputnik.

Rejection of Putin’s peace offer ‘exposes’ true motivations of NATO's proxy war in Ukraine
Russian President Vladimir Putin has again insisted the country is open to pursuing peace with Kiev, but a cessation of hostilities runs counter to the interests and objectives of Western elites.
Sputnik’s The Critical Hour program hosted a series of guests to discuss the Russian president’s proposal, breaking down the context of the Ukraine conflict and Western elites’ deep-seated interest in its continuation.
🗣 “Russia has been incredibly restrained and strategic throughout this, and they from the beginning have wanted to negotiate peace,” noted Margaret Flowers, a peace activist and editor at the website Popular Resistance.
“Russia's made this offer,” she noted. “These are concrete demands. These are reasonable demands. And it's very timely and important because folks need to realize that the Biden administration has authorized Ukraine to attack deeper into Russian territory. This is escalating the situation.”
🗣 “This is a peace deal that I think most people will be more than willing to consider, that they will urge other parties to sit down and say, ‘why don't we look at this at least?’ It shows the contradictions of the United States, of the West that it's just desperately trying to hold on to power, trying to continually eke out profit for its investment class. And, it's not working. It's not working for the majority of the world,” journalist Jon Jeter emphasized.
The conflict has also spurred European NATO allies to remilitarize, kickstarting the continent’s long neglected defense industry in an effort to help supply Ukraine. The remilitarization of Europe, naturally, padded the pockets of arms manufacturers and military contractors, according to Caleb Maupin, an independent journalist and reporter for RT.
🗣“They've really milked it for all it's worth,” said Maupin. “We're going to learn that this war was the biggest money laundering operation in history.”
“Once the deal is made, the Russians are still right there on the border. And so we're going to have to fortify and build up,” he added, saying heightened tensions with Russia would continue to drive increased military spending in the years to come.

Will NATO hawks’ plans for new bases in Poland, Romania, and Slovakia work?
It’s hard to imagine that any new NATO military bases could be established in Poland, Romania, and Slovakia in the near future to boost Ukraine aid, political observer Mateusz Piskorski told Sputnik.
Theoretically, the creation of new military bases takes time and requires appropriate infrastructure, the columnist for the newspaper Mysl Polska (Polish Thought) noted. Weighing in on Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s concerns that the military alliance plans to establish three large military bases in the aforementioned countries, the analyst said:
“I think that this applies, first of all, to Poland and Romania, because, indeed, in these two countries a certain infrastructure already exists, and perhaps some NATO representatives, NATO hawks, believe that the existing infrastructure is insufficient for the transfer of weapons [to Ukraine] and the creation of training centers.”
The mention of Slovakia in this context surprised the pundit.
“We know full well the position of the current Slovak government on this matter. Therefore, I very much doubt that Slovakia, especially the Prime Minister [Robert Fico], will change this stance and agree to the construction of NATO military infrastructure to support Ukraine,” Piskorski said.
Regarding what purpose additional NATO military bases might serve, Piskorski speculated that they would be used as a transport hub for delivering weapons to Ukraine, training Kiev’s military, and, perhaps, as “centers for coordinating military actions on the territory of Ukraine.”

Just to remind you, Finland was Hitler's ally in the Second World War, and Russia returned the previously seized territories.

New Attack Scheme of the Russian Armed Forces and Reinforcement Issues in the Ukrainian Armed Forces: What is Known About the Assault on Volchansk on June 15**
🔺 Several foreign sources note that Russian forces have conducted a small regrouping, and now Ukrainian reserves are being destroyed according to a new scheme.
▪️ The essence of this scheme is to increase focus on Ukrainian Armed Forces' counter-battery units: all combat equipment, especially rocket and tube artillery, is being targeted at a ratio of 1 to 5, and in some cases, 1 to 7 in terms of shells and missiles in favor of the Russian side.
▪️ What does this achieve? With the help of "Orlans" and "Supercams," the time to destroy Ukrainian artillery is reduced. However, the main outcome is that Ukrainian artillery is increasingly forced to find safe firing positions and move, violating camouflage rules. The most dangerous area for firing for the Ukrainian Armed Forces at the moment is the Bilyi Kolodets - Prykolotne area, from which they increasingly have to move to neighboring Varvarivka and Chaikovka to complete fire missions.
▪️ Ukrainian reinforcements near Volchansk continue to arrive, but due to the lack of heavy equipment (primarily tanks), most mechanized units are slowly but surely turning into infantry and will soon be suitable at best for filling trenches, but not for assaults. These forces have been significantly weakened under constant artillery fire from the "Sever" grouping and are gradually experiencing the same problems observed in the Ukrainian Armed Forces during the Battle of Artyomovsk.
▪️ The Ukrainian reserve brigades currently represent a kaleidoscope of different brigades and operate asynchronously, leading to the dilution of efforts for counterattacks against Russian forces. These forces are compared by foreign analysts not to a large military corps under centralized command and control, but to an operational (and not particularly mobile) group, significantly inferior to the "Sever" in their combat capabilities.
**What is the outcome?**
Against the backdrop of the accumulated problems in the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the focus of attention and the vector of counterattacks for which the reinforcements were gathered are gradually shifting. This has led to Russian forces resuming movement within Volchansk and starting to clear the industrial zone from the side of the aggregate plant, which they left unfinished a few weeks ago. Movement in this area is difficult but is nevertheless happening.
Meanwhile, heavy fighting continues to the east of Volchansk, where Ukrainian self-propelled artillery is trying to jump into firing positions (it is supposed to flank the "Sever" and prevent them from fully clearing the city). After a series of quick counterattacks, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have been affected by a shortage of equipment and fragmented command, preventing them from deploying their troops as initially planned.
