The plan in Kiev is not to negotiate but to prolong the war and to convince the west to further finance it. This would have the advantage of moving billions of additional dollar from western sources into the various pockets in Kiev with Zelenski and Yermak cashing in the largest share of it.But all this comes at the cost of the Ukrainian defense in Donbas.
Tatarigami_UA @Tatarigami_UA - 14:23 UTC · Aug 6, 2024 The situation in the Pokrovsk direction is critical, with defenses in several areas collapsed and yet to stabilize, largely due to a shortage of personnel. Diverting nearly a brigade to launch an assault on Kursk Oblast, which lacks strategic sense, borders on mental disability.Various western oriented media have now taken a similar view:
After being initially heralded as a brilliant military stroke, the Kursk operation could end up becoming a trap for the Ukrainian Army, these analysts said. Ultimately, the expansion of the war to new areas will, over time, favor the side with bigger resources, the analysts said. With triple the population and a larger industrial base, that side remains Russia.
One Ukrainian artillery brigade commander in eastern Ukraine told the Financial Times that part of the reason for the Russian advance was Kyiv moving its scarce resources north. His troops were back to rationing shells for their canons — the first time since US aid to Ukraine was held up by Congress — because ammunition had been reallocated for the incursion into Russia’s Kursk region.
...
While Kyiv does not comment on casualties, the incursion has already come at a material cost: Ukraine lost at least 51 pieces of valuable military equipment, including German Marder vehicles, US-made Stryker vehicles and Himars rockets, compared to 27 such losses on the Russian side, according to the open-source intelligence researcher Naalsio.
"There is a risk of overextending, and there is a risk that precious personnel and resources may be lost and that Putin may use this as a pretext for further escalation," said Michael A. Witt, professor of international business and strategy at King's Business School, London.
...
Emil Kastehelmi, a military expert from the Finland-based open-source intelligence analysis firm Black Bird Group, said that the incursion risks attrition of Ukraine's precious reserves when it still has issues with manpower.
Hopes that Ukraine’s incursion into Russia would relieve pressure on the eastern front are not being realized as Moscow’s forces approach Pokrovsk. Ukrainian servicemen in the Pokrovsk region say the Kursk incursion has not altered Russian attack — if anything, the pressure has increased in recent days. There are many more, including alternative sources, tooting the same horn.

Colonel Douglas Macgregor: Contrary to whatever Mister Zelensky says publicly, privately, we know his bags are packed.
He's moved his billions into bank accounts
in places like Cyprus, Albania, Switzerland.
He's bought estates in Italy.
He's got a place here in Florida.
Where?
Not far from where I am in Orlando.
📑Well, I think two things we have to keep in mind.
First of all, contrary to whatever Mister Zelensky says
publicly, privately, we know his bags are packed.
He's moved his billions into bank accounts
in places like Cyprus, Albania, Switzerland.
He's bought estates in Italy.
He's got a place here in Florida. Where?
Not far from where I am in Orlando.
He's ready to go.
And as soon as it becomes obvious to him that the
Russians are advancing on him, he's going to be on a
plane and he'll probably pack that with whatever cash is left.
Just as we saw in Afghanistan.
Some of your viewers will remember that
people left Afghanistan in that corrupt government
with carloads of us cash.
I think you're going to see something very
similar when the time comes with Mister Zelensky.
That is, of course, if the Ukrainians who are
increasingly sick of him, contrary to what we're told
in the mainstream media, don't bump him off, which
I think is a real possibility.
In fact, it may be Ukrainian soldiers who
have been paying a horrible price in this
war that eventually dispose of him.

EU member's 'Nazi heirs hate Russia on genetic level' - Moscow RT
Wed, 21 Aug 2024
Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has condemned Latvia over its decision to send 500 combat drones to Kiev.
Latvia is fueling the Ukraine conflict by supplying Kiev with hundreds of drones, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has said. The deliveries will nonetheless fail to change the ultimate outcome of the hostilities, she added.
Latvian Defense Minister Andris Spruds revealed last week that the Baltic nation had readied another shipment of 500 domestically-manufactured UAVs for Ukraine. The announcement came after the Latvian Defense Ministry said in early July that it would provide Kiev with as many as 2,500 combat UAVs worth a total €4 million ($4.4 million) within a month, as part of a Western drone coalition effort.
In an interview with RIA Novosti on Wednesday, Zakharova signaled there was nothing surprising about the delivery, given what she called the deep-rooted Russophobia of the Latvian elites.
"The local political establishment consists almost entirely of ideological heirs of the [Nazi] Waffen SS, who hate Russia on a genetic level and are trying to settle historical scores with it," the spokeswoman alleged.

The Kiev regime’s forces tried to bombard the Kursk nuclear power plant at night, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting focused on the situation in the Kursk, Belgorod and Bryansk regions.

"The enemy tried to launch strikes on the nuclear power plant at night today,” Putin said, adding that the "International Atomic Energy Agency has been informed, they promise to ... come themselves and send specialists for an assessment."
Gerasimov emphasized that the operation in the Kursk region aims to defeat the enemy and secure the state border. According to a report from the Russian Defense Ministry on August 22, Ukraine's army has suffered losses of more than 4,700 servicemen and 68 tanks during the fighting in the Kursk area.

"Poor bastard"! This will be the continuation after Kursk, according to Medvedev
"End of negotiations until the final defeat of Kiev"
Russian Security Council Vice President Dmitry Medvedev weighed in on the issue again in a Telegram post, writing about the follow-up:
"In my opinion, recently, although theoretically, there was a danger - a negotiating trap, into which our country could fall under certain conditions: Early unnecessary peace negotiations proposed by the international community and imposed on the Kiev regime. With unclear prospects and consequences.
After the neo-Nazis committed a terrorist act in the Kursk region, everything fell into place. The pointless chatter of unauthorized middlemen on the subject of a beautiful world has ceased. Now everyone understands everything, even if they don't say it out loud. They understand this: NO MORE NEGOTIATIONS UNTIL THE ENEMY IS COMPLETELY DEFEATED!
So don't let the wretched bastard with an ugly muzzle and disheveled white hair from a country where a terrorist operation was preparing to enjoy it.
His country has done much worse on the ground it trusts. For Ukraine: there will be much more senseless spending, significantly more damaged military equipment, and radically more coffins.
And now let the unfortunate Ukrainian serfs kiss lustily for all this the bloody hands of the necrophiles who mock them – their Anglo-Saxon masters.” :clapping:

Britain is waiting for a "green light" from the US to use Storm Shadow inside Russian territory today
https://warnews247-gr.translate.goog..._x_tr_pto=wapp
Disclosure from the Times
Britain's government asked the US a month ago for permission for Ukraine to use British Storm Shadow missiles inside Russia, but has yet to receive a positive response, the Times reported, citing unnamed government sources.
So far, Western countries have not budged on the issue, even as Kiev launched an invasion of Russia in the Kursk region.
A British government source told The Times that the request was effectively "stuck in the (US) system" , while another called it "routine US procedure". A third source said that discussion with allies about the use of Storm Shadow is ongoing.
According to one of the sources, London does not blame Washington for the delay and sees it as an expected part of a policy change process.
The Kyiv Independent was unable to verify the claims.
The Times report did not specify why the use of the Storm Shadow, a missile jointly developed by the UK and France with a range of 250 kilometers (150 miles), is dependent on Washington's approval.
Matthew Palmer, the US High Commissioner to the UK, denied to Times Radio that his government would have a say in the matter.
Earlier media reports indicate, however, that the license is not solely up to London. British official sources told the Telegraph in July that such a step would require agreement between three countries, including the UK.
Although the sources did not name the other two countries, France is a possibility, as it produces its own variants of the Storm Shadow – the SCALPs – which have also been supplied to Ukraine.
Like the US, the UK also allowed Ukraine to use British weapons during the Kursk invasion, with the exception of long-range missiles.
According to Kiev, limiting strikes deep inside Russia was one of the motivations behind the Kursk operation.
"If Ukraine could strike enemy troops on their soil, from where they threaten Ukraine, then Ukraine would be in a much better position to protect itself," Foreign Ministry spokesman Heorhii Tykhyi said on August 13.
