Three decades ago it was well understood that stranding 12 million Russians in Ukraine was going to end badly. The situation remained relatively stable, until the US decided that exploiting Ukrainian nationalism would make a fantastic weapon against Russia. Had the US kept its nose out of Kiev's business, the issue of minority Russian rights would have been resolved peacefully and an ocean of blood would have not gotten spilled. Now thanks to Washington's nasty nasty work, the most powerful alliance in history has been formed to oppose it. Brzezinski said the most dangerous threat to US security was a coalition of China and Russia, united not by ideology but by complementary grievances, and now that has become reality for Washington. Bravo to Nuland and her fellow neocons.

🇺🇦🇷🇺 Three Ukrainian servicemen who wanted to surrender were guided to a safe place with the help of a radio dropped from Russian drone.
After leaflets were dropped on their position near Kurakhovo, three Ukrainian soldiers from the 33rd brigade, who had lost contact with their unit, decided to lay down their arms.
Russian soldiers dropped them a radio station and guided them so they could safely surrender.

🇮🇹 Italy has refused to send soldiers to Ukraine.
Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said the country does not plan to send its troops to participate in the conflict in Ukraine.
"We must avoid escalation," Tajani stressed during a meeting of G7 foreign ministers.
His statement came amid reports that Europe is once again discussing the possibility of sending troops to Ukraine.

* A misconception some may have is that if you strike (e.g.) a nuclear warhead with a regular explosive missile, you don't get a nuclear explosion. It's not like blowing up an ammunition depot. All you get is a nuclear warhead in small destroyed pieces which can't possibly function. To make a nuclear device explode, a very complex and ultra-precise detonation mechanism has to be activated, and that's the only thing that will do it.

I've NOT begun to watch it yet, but it features Pepe Escobar, who I appreciate and value immensely and who may be the English-speaking corespondent who understands Kremlin thinking and attitudes better than anyone else, even Gilbert Doctorow or John Helmer.
I fully understand that many right now are anxious about potential dangerous NATO-driven escalation, and while "France and the UK have lost their minds" (in the words of Alexander Mercouris!), Russia's responses to current events are those which will determine whether there is an expended kinetic war or not.
As I've shared as best I can in this members-only thread, I do not believe that the current situation will go nuclear. I feel certain of that. But nonetheless, everything that's happening right now is important and can have many repercussions to us all in numerous ways, so keeping abreast of these daily developments is valuable to us all.

Yes, this is worth listening to. Pepe gets serious after about 10 minutes, and goes into all the details of Russia's current position. He confirms what I mentioned in my intro above, that the escalation (or otherwise) is entirely controlled by Russia, not by NATO.

I think this would backfire though as many would see through it.

Upon examining the areas attacked in the Kursk Region, it was confirmed that Ukrainian militants fired American-made ATACMS missiles.
Russia's Defense Ministry announced that it is preparing retaliatory actions against Ukraine for attacking with ATACMS missiles in the Kursk Region.
Over the past three days, Ukrainian forces carried out two strikes with long-range Western weapons on targets in Russia's Kursk Region, the Defense Ministry said.
On November 23, the Ukrainian military launched five ATACMS missiles near the village of Lotarevka at the position of the S-400 anti–aircraft missile division. Three missiles were destroyed, and two reached the target.
On November 25, Ukrainian troops struck the Vostochny airfield in Russia's Kursk Region using ATACMS missiles. Seven were shot down, but one reached its target. As a result, two soldiers were slightly injured from falling rocket fragments.
Earlier on Monday, White House National Security Communications Advisor John Kirby, after a long denial, confirmed that Ukraine is allowed to use US-made ATACMS ballistic missiles to fire at targets in the western Russian region of Kursk.
