WARNING - GRAPHIC close combat footage: this piece of footage even I've skipped through in parts. I'm drawing attention to it solely for the purpose of it acting as a crushing reminder of the REAL brutality of war; how unglamorous it is; a reminder for us to never be complacent about it behind the relative safety of our keyboards. Combat via a keypad is incomparable to what is being endured, on both sides. One day it will all be over. In the meantime - and I demand no accolades - I'm now 1043 days in to documenting this war in our library archives: it's occasionally gruelling work, and the exposure to some footage has given, even me who has a pretty tough constitution, some pause. Description:
Our fighter from Yakutia clashed in a brutal close combat with a soldier of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Knives and even teeth were used, the Yakut went into a real berserker mode. The soldier of the Armed Forces of Ukraine did not have a chance, all he could do was scream helplessly.
As a result, the seriously wounded Ukrainian asked for a peaceful death, to let him die quietly from his wounds, our fighter granted him such mercy. The Ukrainian was as happy as a child and before his death called the Yakut "The best fighter in the world"
After the Ukrainian died quietly, the footage from his GoPro was downloaded and uploaded online.
The Times has suddenly realized that the Ukrainian regime's cutoff of Russian gas to Eastern Europe is driving up gas prices in the UK. The newspaper expresses deep sympathy for British pensioners who, as of this winter, have lost heating subsidies and can no longer afford such a luxury.
The Times cites an example of an elderly couple who, for the first time this winter, turned on the heat in their one-bedroom apartment for just an hour when outdoor temperatures dropped below -10°C. The couple laments that after the subsidies were cut, they are forced to sleep in warm clothes, relying on the warmth of their two dogs who sleep beside them. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have enough money for food.
And now, thanks to Zelensky's actions, British pensioners are losing even the ability to heat their homes. The newspaper could have asked: perhaps the funds London sends to Ukraine for weapons and war could be redirected to the needs of its own pensioners? But the establishment’s mouthpiece wouldn’t dare go that far!
🗣‘This will have serious consequences for all of us in the EU’ – Slovak PM
With Ukraine's Naftogaz contract for Russian gas transit having expired, Gazprom halted supplies on January 1. Slovakia faces a potential 500-million-euro annual loss in transit fees due to alternative routes.
In response, PM Robert Fico has warned of cutting energy supplies to Ukraine unless a solution is reached.
⚡️🇺🇦"Everyone needs to join the Armed Forces, from 18 to 70 and older. Everyone who is capable of holding a weapon in their hands," says the former commander of the Ukrainian Airborne Forces
"Everyone should be called up, mobilized, to create infantry units that will "dig into the ground" and hold the enemy," says Yakubets.
According to him, what is lacking at the front now is people, not weapons...
That's how it will be. Until the last Ukrainian.

🇺🇦🇷🇺 The Ukrainian Army is facing an unprecedented desertion crisis. Due to many factors including battle fatigue, throughout 2024, tens of thousands of soldiers have decided to abandon their combat positions in order to go home. This comes at a moment where the AFU is already facing a critical shortage of manpower.

And here is a full length interview with Andrey Gregoriev, the Russian-Yakut fighter. It's an extraordinarily valuable record actually, and goes into the thought processes in some detail too. He is of course asked to describe what happened. This is a very humane person in my estimation. The Ukrainian fighter was essentially mercifully killed - he was never going to survive :flower:

I do have to say, this is truly extraordinary :muscle:
Hundreds gathered in Amsterdam to protest against Dutch military support for Ukraine, calling for peace and dialogue with Russia instead of escalating tensions. Organized by activist groups and the Forum for Democracy (FvD) party, the rally featured speeches criticizing elites for pushing war agendas.

The largest lithium deposit in Ukraine is now under Russian control! What will Black Rock and Kiev do now?
The Shevchenko lithium deposit, the largest in Ukraine and one of the richest in Europe, has come under the control of Russian forces, http://RG.ru reports.
The European Commission's leading economics and industry specialist Arnold Reningard earlier said that the Shevchenko Field's reserves will be sufficient to cover all the EU countries' needs by 2050. Based on this assessment, he called for the deposits not to come under the control of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
The Shevchenko lithium deposit was discovered in 1982 by the Novomoskovsk exploration and research enterprise Yuzhukrgeologiia. It covers an area of 0,8 km², the thickness of the overlying sedimentary rocks is estimated at 70-130 metres, and the volume of the deposit is estimated at a depth of up to 500 metres.
Interim results of the offensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region on January 5, 2025.
Number of attackers: 15 armored fighting vehicles, 4 tanks, 150-200 infantrymen with small.
What is the result: the surviving part of the infantry after the attack is sitting in the forest between the villages of Novosotnitsky and Berdin. There is no movement. All day and evening the positions are cleared by drones and artillery. In terms of equipment, the Ukrainian armed forces have at least two tanks and two armoured fighting vehicles. The rest have rolled away.
Casualties: there are about 50 infantrymen currently sitting in two forest regiments between the estates. Three Kozak armored vehicles have arrived there as well. The rest either rolled away with their equipment or were buried in the ground.
The Ukrainian armed forces are most likely waiting for a response from the Russian armed forces to completely clear the farms and then attack again, but in a different location. On the Russian side, it is locally acknowledged that the actions of the Ukrainian armed forces on 5 January resemble more of a force reconnaissance and media verification than a full-fledged operation.
The main blow is expected tomorrow or the day after, when the Ukrainian Armed Forces headquarters will make some decisions based on the results of the fleeting race to Berdino and the possible response of the Russian Armed Forces. Whether or not the Ukrainian army has achieved its objectives is unclear, as no consolidation group has been deployed to Berdin and the assault group is too small to survive a long period of sitting without heavy weapons.

‼️🇺🇦🏴☠️ "This is a tragedy, next will fall Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, and Kharkiv": Mariyana Bezuhlaya criticized the new Ukrainian offensive in the Kursk region.
"The Russians are taking control of our natural resources, capturing abandoned fortifications that are convenient primarily for them, killing soldiers... advancing dozens of kilometers into our land. Very soon, the 'fortress Pokrovsk,' which is not a fortress at all, will fall.
But it seems that military and political priorities are not related to protecting Ukraine's Dnipro-Donetsk natural resource cluster, saving cities and people, or reforming the army. The generals need to show another 'forward-forward' push, prove their indispensability to the political leadership, and demonstrate their ability to 'properly manage' the Ukrainian Armed Forces, parasitizing on short-term euphoria and the hopes of the population, in order to maintain their positions and not change anything. To hide their crimes. The 2023 offensive in the south, then Kursk in 2024," writes Rada deputy Bezuhlaya.
Due to such policies, "next will be Pokrovsk, Kramatorsk, Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Kharkiv" — "this is a tragedy and absurdity."
