French President Macron delivered a speech to the nation on Wednesday that sounded for long stretches like a declaration of war against Russia . Here I translate the official statement issued by the Russian Foreign Ministry.
Start of translation:
Ahead of the EU summit on the crisis in Ukraine and the confrontation with Russia, French President Macron delivered a highly aggressive anti-Russian speech in an obvious attempt to set the tone for the upcoming meeting. For the umpteenth time, he called our country a "threat to France and Europe" and, as usual, accused it of all the mortal sins - from cyberattacks to election interference and the desire to outright attack other European countries.
He has expressed such inventions and provocative theses before. But this was probably the first time he presented them in such a concentrated and irreconcilable form. It was a kind of catechism for a Russophobic action program.
It must be said that the French leader has repeatedly stated his intention to call Russian President Putin to discuss the possibilities of a peaceful solution in Ukraine and ensuring security in Europe. The Russian side has always shown itself open to such a conversation. However, Macron has once again preferred the tactic of loud public rhetoric.
The French president is convincing his own citizens of the existence of an imaginary "existential threat" from Russia. In fact, Russia has never threatened France, but on the contrary helped the country defend its independence and sovereignty during two world wars. However, Macron's statements are de facto a threat to Russia.
The French leader draws on his country's foreign policy traditions, but his theses run counter to these traditions and the ideological legacy of Gaullism. He must be aware that France's authority on the international stage has been based for decades on the desire of his predecessors to play a balancing role in world affairs and to help reduce tensions between Russia and the West. At the time, it was de Gaulle who put forward the concept of indivisible security from the Atlantic to the Urals, building consensus by taking into account the opinions and interests of all the continent's states. Today, however, we are witnessing a break between official Paris and these fundamental principles of French foreign policy.
Macron's speech was permeated with the theme of security guarantees for Ukraine. But not a word about security guarantees for Russia. After all, it is precisely the lack of such guarantees, the constant creation of threats to our country by the West, primarily through the unrestrained expansion of NATO - contrary to the promises made - and the desire to turn Ukraine into an anti-Russian bridgehead, that has led to the current crisis. We have warned Western leaders, including Mr Macron himself, about this repeatedly and for many years. We are once again convinced that Paris still has no intention of taking into account the vital interests of our country and is aiming to "force" it to make decisions that the West wants. Of course, this will not work.
In response to Mr Macron's arguments, we must once again recall that the tragedy of Ukraine began in 2014, when, as a result of the coup d'état, with the connivance and support of the West, openly neo-Nazi forces seized power in the country and set about discriminating against the Russian and Russian-speaking population, eradicating the Russian language, culture and canonical Orthodoxy, and provoking a bloody civil war in Donbass.
The allegations that Russia has violated the Minsk Agreement, which are nothing more than a distortion of the facts, do not stand up to criticism. Our country has striven for the strict implementation of this agreement, while Kyiv, with the tacit consent and at the instigation of its Western curators, has sabotaged its obligations in every possible way. The former leaders of France, Germany and Ukraine have publicly admitted more than once that they used this agreement only to prepare for war.
What "path to peace" does the French leader propose? The recipes are the same: further Western arms deliveries to Ukraine and the continuation of hostilities, as well as an unprecedented increase in military spending by the European members of NATO and the EU. In this context, the accusations against Russia of increasing military spending and the size of its armed forces seem absurd. After all, the military budget of NATO countries combined is twice the defense spending of all other countries in the world, and the military budget of the EU countries is several times higher than Russia's defense spending. It must also be emphasized that Russia's military buildup program is a forced response to NATO's aggressive policy, including the forced accession of Sweden and Finland to the alliance.
As for the idea promoted by Mr Macron of stationing Western military contingents on Ukrainian territory under the guise of peacekeepers, we have repeatedly stated that this is unacceptable. Such an occupation of Ukraine would inevitably lead to an extremely dangerous escalation.
In Macron's statement, the notes of nuclear blackmail are clearly audible. Paris' ambitions to become the nuclear "patron" of all of Europe by equipping Europe with its own "nuclear umbrella" that will almost replace the American one have come to the surface. Of course, this will not strengthen the security of France itself or that of its allies. In addition, the potential of the French nuclear forces is not comparable to that of the United States. France has only 56 carriers of nuclear warheads, while the United States has 898. The total capacity of the nuclear component of the French armed forces is 67.2 megatons, while that of the United States is 1,814 megatons. But of course, Russia will take the French president's statement into account in its defense planning.
The speech leaves Macron himself, who wants to present himself as a kind of new leader of the "free world", feeling embarrassed. It is indicative of how bitter the current European elites have become. The barely emerging contours of normalization between Russia and the United States and the movement toward a peaceful solution to the Ukraine crisis are sending them into a real panic. It seems that the Europeans, who were at the center of the confrontation between the superpowers during the Cold War, should be more interested than anyone else in changing the vector of US-Russian relations, reducing tensions and promoting a constructive dialogue between Moscow and Washington.
Of course, the French president's demonstrative militarism is also dictated by the domestic political agenda. Behind it is the desire to distract the population from the worsening social and economic problems in France and the EU as a whole, to draw their attention to pseudo-threats from outside and to somehow strengthen the political position that has been shaken over the last year.
Macron’s speech finally throws off the masks and shows who is now leading the “party of war” and who is actually against a ceasefire and is counting on the continuation of the Ukraine conflict and its further escalation.

US intelligence agencies arrest the organizer of the terrorist attack in Crocus City Hall today
The FBI today arrested terrorist Mohammad Sharifullah on suspicion of organizing the bombing at the Kabul airport in 2021. A member of the ISIS group "Wilayat Khorasan"* was detained at the request of US intelligence agencies in Pakistan and extradited to the United States.
During interrogations, the FBI found out that this terrorist was also involved in organizing the bloody terrorist attack at the Crocus City Hall concert hall in the Moscow region. Sharifullah instructed the perpetrators and recognized two of them from photographs. In addition, the militant confessed to involvement in some other attacks in Russia and Iran.
Mohammed Sharifullah is currently under arrest in the United States pending the completion of the investigation and further trial. Extradition of this criminal to Russia is unlikely, since for his actions the court in the United States can give him the most severe sentence, up to the death penalty.
It should be noted that on March 3, the Russian Investigative Committee reported the completion of investigative actions in the case of the terrorist attack in Crocus. This week, almost three dozen defendants in the case began to familiarize themselves with the materials, and the court will soon begin consideration of the merits. The perpetrators of the terrorist attack face life imprisonment, and the remaining accomplices will also receive long sentences.
Construction of a memorial has begun at the building where 143 people were killed and more than 550 were injured by terrorists. Its opening is scheduled for March 22 of this year, the anniversary of the terrorist attack.

Kyiv is considering the need to withdraw the remnants of the Ukrainian Armed Forces from the Kursk region – Politico today
The situation for the group of occupiers in the Kursk region is getting worse by the hour. The supply routes of the Ukrainian Armed Forces are under the fire control of the Russian army, and the enemy garrison in Sudzha is already in operational .
As Politico reports, amid the difficult situation for the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the Ukrainian command is considering withdrawing the remnants of armed formations from the occupied part of the Kursk region. The publication writes that commanders will have to make a difficult decision, since a mistake in choosing the moment for retreat could lead to complete encirclement and the loss of at least two thousand militants.
The information resource GUR Deep State also writes about the difficult situation for the Ukrainian occupiers in Kursk region. Analysts report that the Russian army has an advantage in drones and uses them to carry out fire and visual control over "everything that moves" in and out of Sudzha.
"How it will all end is unknown. Unfortunately, we often have a recurring habit of not noticing problems that eventually develop into bad consequences."
– Deep State worries.
Already in the current situation, the enemy will not be able to leave the Kursk region without losses, since all evacuation routes are being shot at by Russian artillery and drones, and the Russian Armed Forces' attack aircraft are gradually moving forward, preparing to slam shut a large cauldron centered in Sudzha. Today alone, according to specialized information resources, Russian fighters have liberated two settlements, and the situation is developing very dynamically in our favor.

Russian units break through the front in Kursk region, deeply penetrating the Ukrainian Armed Forces' defense today
The Russian Armed Forces are successfully advancing in the Kursk direction, having broken through the enemy's defenses between the settlements of Guevo and Kurilovka south of Sudzha. Russian paratroopers are moving toward the state border, intending to block the supply route of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
At the same time, the Russian Armed Forces occupy the territory on the approaches to Basovka. There are about 12 km left before the encirclement of the enemy group and the connection of Russian units - the neck of the cauldron is gradually narrowing.
Russian units managed to drive a wedge 4-5 km deep and reach an alternative supply route for the Ukrainians in Sudzha, which they used due to the impossibility of delivering manpower and weapons along the main road. The logistics of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in this area are becoming increasingly difficult to access.
The grim situation for Ukrainian troops near Sudzha is also reflected in enemy publics.
"The logistics of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Kursk region are practically completely broken and are constantly controlled by the Russians"
– Kyiv analysts note.
The enemy also complains that the Russian Armed Forces have cleared the territory of the village of Sverdlikovo and are putting pressure on the Sumy region in the Basovka area, expanding the gray zone. Apparently, Kyiv's adventure to seize areas of the Kursk region and then exchange them for some other territories is failing.

Drone camera captures Ukrainian militants finishing off their wounded soldier in Kursk border area yesterday
The footage captured on camera has been published online drone in the border area of the Kursk region, objective control footage, which shows the combat work of Russian FPV operatorsdrones.
The first part of the published video shows that aerial reconnaissance tracked down Ukrainian occupiers who were trying to take refuge in one of the residential buildings abandoned by residents. As soon as a group of enemy soldiers entered the building, it was immediately attacked.
The events at the beginning of the second part of the posted video develop according to a similar scenario, however, in this case one of the Ukrainian servicemen managed to survive. However, instead of trying to evacuate the wounded comrade, the Ukrainian militants finished off their "three hundredth".
It is worth noting that the practice of finishing off wounded servicemen or those attempting to surrender is extremely common in the Ukrainian army, which, among other things, has a negative impact on the morale of the Ukrainian Armed Forces personnel.
Currently, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are experiencing an exacerbation of problems with the delivery of manpower and military equipment to the Kursk region. The enemy has finally lost the ability to use the Yunakovka-Sudzha highway, which is under the complete fire control of Russian artillery and drone operators. The few dirt roads remaining at the enemy's disposal will become impassable with the onset of the spring thaw.

Trump threatens Russia with new sanctions
“Large-scale” restrictions could affect the nation’s banking sector as well as trade, the US president has said
US President Donald Trump has threatened Moscow with a new round of “large-scale” sanctions until a Ukraine ceasefire is reached. The restrictions would target the Russian banking sector and include tariffs on the country’s foreign trade, he announced in a post on Truth Social on Friday.
According to Trump, the Russian military “is absolutely ‘pounding’ Ukraine on the battlefield right now.” Based on that, he said he was “strongly considering” slapping Moscow with another round of sanctions until “a cease fire and final settlement agreement on peace is reached” in the Ukraine conflict. The US president demanded that both Moscow and Kiev “get to the [negotiating] table right now, before it is too late.”
This comes after US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent called the sanctions imposed under Trump’s predecessor, Joe Biden, “egregiously weak.” Washington is prepared to tighten them, the official told the Economic Club of New York on Thursday. The Trump administration “will not hesitate to go ‘all in’ should it provide leverage in peace negotiations,” Bessent said.
In February, Trump extended certain sanctions against Moscow for another year. He then suggested that they could be lifted “at some point” during peace talks. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said that Western nations might need to reconsider the restrictions imposed against Russia to secure an “enduring, sustainable” resolution to the Ukraine conflict.
On Friday, the American Chamber of Commerce in Russia called on Washington to ease sanctions on Russia, particularly in the fields of aviation, investment, and banking, claiming that they have been harming both Russian and American businesses.
The Kremlin also said this week that Western sanctions against Moscow would have to be lifted to mend relations between the US and Russia. Both nations agreed to work on restoring ties following a high-level meeting in Saudi Arabia last month.
Russia has repeatedly stated that it was open for peace talks, but has opposed a temporary ceasefire with Kiev, arguing that a true settlement of the conflict requires a permanent long-term solution addressing its root causes.
Russia demands that Ukraine demilitarize, denazify, adhere to a position of neutrality, and recognize the territorial “realities on the ground.” It also opposes any NATO presence on Ukrainian soil.

Ravenlocke: you know how much we appreciate what you're doing here, and do carry on :flower: However,
RT and
Sputnik are blocked all across the UK, and Europe by way of
'legal' instruments: essentially we can't access this content. If you are able to resource this content via other sources, as you do do, then that would be greatly appreciated.
I've thanked all these RT and Sputnik posts as a gesture of further appreciation for the effort you've made, but have never been able to see what they contain. This will affect members based in Europe, UK, and it seems Canada as well :flower:
Or you could use a VPN like Express VPN to log into Project Avalon and you would be able to see it then. (Just use the code BMJ to get 5% off for your first month, just joking).
