John Lear has Passed March 29, 2022

I'm a big fan of John Lear.
He's had a huge role with UFO study in the last forty years.
His photography of groom lake aerial phenomenon, his role in Bob Lazar coming forward, he had a role in the dulce papers coming out I do believe. So many wonderful nights listening to coast to coast with Art Bell and John Lear.
Truth be told my favorite Coast interviews where always John Lear.
If anybody could come back and tell us what's really going on, it would be John.
Bless your soul John Lear you lived a brave life. A true warrior for truth!


LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Famed Nevada aviator John Lear, known for his world records and his UFO activism, has died.

Lear passed away in his sleep Tuesday night at his Las Vegas home, according to his daughter Allison.


Lear is the son of Bill Lear, who developed the Lear Jet.

John Lear carved his own path, setting multiple records as an aviator. During the Vietnam era, he flew cargo planes for the CIA.

In the 1980s, Lear became an outspoken critic of an alleged government cover-up of UFOs, and his interviews on Channel 8 were seen all over the world.


Lear’s friendship with a scientist named Bob Lazar helped up the Area 51 military base on the map.

The timing of this is strange. I was just watching a Lear interview the other day and asking a friend: "have you ever listened to John Lear? He's fascinating.."

It's strange because I hadn't listened to him in ages until then. Just had a random urge to revisit him.

I think he is the most listenable interview in the alternative media world. How much of what he said was actually true is up for debate (the moon was built on Jupiter? How can anything be built on Jupiter???:bigsmile:), but it was great fun to listen to nonetheless. You were never not going to be entertained by a John Lear interview.

R.I.P. John, and thanks for all the fun.

I painted John as part of my whistleblower series. He was probably one of the best examples of just that and contributed greatly to us all.

I have been following the UFO/ET/Secret Govt/Etc. story since 1995 and the great ones have been passing much too often as of late.

The thing about Lear I remember the most is that he would make what at the time seemed to be outrageous statements, and over and over I would discount those statements, only to figure out later he was actually very much over-target.

I remember listening to John Lear's accounts of Wednesday night visits to watch the 'Craft' flying from area 51 on Bob Lazar's inside information, John had a flamboyant, colourful style, very sorry to hear he has passed, a part of history has closed really. RIP to the pilot extraordinaire!

The great John Lear passed away last week on Tuesday 29th March however I only learnt of this sad news this morning (Australian time) right here on Project Avalon.

Even though I am more of a lurker, I always follow Bill Ryan's posts on here (which I find is one of the best ways to keep up to speed in the conspiracy reality world in which we live) and I found this thread.

Over the last few years I was concerned that one day I would discover the news that John Lear had passed due to his frailty from his long-standing injuries. Sadly, that time has now come. :( But my goodness, what an adventure he had! :star: And how lucky are we that he shared it with us!

I have been interested in UFOs since I was a young child in the 1980s and John Lear was my favourite UFO researcher and I first discovered his works in the 1990s when I was a teenager – for example his 'working hypothesis' from 1987 and 'The Krill Papers' from 1988 which he authored with his fellow researcher John Grace (it wasn't a joke, but a serious compilation of information that they had uncovered at the time). Glenn Campbell's 'UFO Mind' website was a good place to start back then which had a chronological list and links to all of John Lear's early papers. I also remember reading Hansson's Affidavit which painted John Lear in a controversial light, however that just added to the swashbuckling character that we came to know and love as John Lear.

I also watched his appearances on various documentaries on VHS such as 'UFOs & Area: Secrets of the Black World' created by Michael Hesemann. Of course if it wasn't for John Lear and his interaction with George Knapp the Bob Lazar story would not have been known. I am saddened that Jeremy Corbell's recent 2018 documentary on Bob Lazar excluded John Lear as they had a falling out, however Jeremy Corbell certainly did some good work with John Lear before that.

After a hiatus in the late 1990s John Lear came back with a bang when re-appearing on Coast to Coast with Art Bell in 2003 with his 'disclosure briefing' when he provided a briefing to Art Bell and asked him if he was in a position within government to disclose such information to the public would he be comfortable releasing it?

After that John Lear was active once again, not just in UFO research but greater conspiracy research – the moon, 9/11 and more. He shared 'The Living Moon' website with his friend Ron Schmidt (who has also passed). This is the period when Kerry Cassidy conducted her first 'Flying Into The Sun With John Lear' Project Camelot interview with him in August 2006 and then both Bill and Kerry conducted their legendary Project Camelot interview 'John Lear Tells All' in April 2008. Miles Johnston of The Bases Project also performed a range of epic interviews with him over the years.

One of the things that made John Lear so special and adored was that he was so open and accessible and anyone had the opportunity to have a chat with him – he was active on Coast to Coast's Fantastic Forum, Above Top Secret and even the infamous Godlike Productions such as his thread 'I am the real John Lear...ask me a question'. John Lear always made time and effort to respond to people's questions through forum posts, personal messages, e-mails (johnlear@cox.net) and even phone calls and he welcomed visitors into his large hacienda home (1414 N Hollywood Blvd) – which ended up being sold in 2020. It was always strange to imagine John Lear without his legendary lair.

It is wonderful that John Lear is now back on Wikipedia! And the current Wikipedia article is completely new – created on 10 February 2022‎.

Believe it or not, I was actually the author of the original John Lear Wikipedia page that was unfortunately deleted (and which John Lear mentioned on Bill and Kerry’s 'John Lear Tells All' interview). I created the original article on: Wednesday, 23 November 2005, 8:35:04 PM (according to the official timestamp on the page I had saved back then!). I remember I was baffled as to why he was not on Wikipedia yet.

And as you mentioned it was deleted in 2007 – 13 June 2007 in fact. I was angered when it was deleted in such a discriminatory and prejudicial way and after that I stopped all contributions to Wikipedia. Needless to say Wikipedia does not represent the truth, only the 'official narrative'. :silent:

John Lear

John Lear (b. 1942) is an accomplished former pilot and well-known Ufologist. He is the son of aviation pioneer, inventor and founder of the Lear Jet Corporation, Bill Lear.

Aviation background

John Lear, now retired from flying, amassed over 19,000 hours of flight time, and has flown in over 100 different types of airplanes in 60 different countries around the world. He flew both commercially and in missions worldwide for the CIA. John Lear is the only pilot to hold every airman certificate issued by the FAA, and has held many world records. [1]

Early research work

John Lear claims to have always had a slight interest in UFOs. Sometime in the mid-1980s, he read the book Missing Time by Budd Hopkins, a book on alien abduction. This was to become a turning point. From then on John began heavily researching the subject, including tracking down and interviewing many witnesses and individuals involved in the phenomenon. Soon after, in about 1987 or 1988, John Lear began writing and lecturing on the subject.

Involvement with Bob Lazar and Area 51 / S-4

In the summer of 1988, John met a physicist named Bob Lazar, and soon became intimately involved in the Area 51 / S-4 story. It is claimed that Lazar worked at the S-4 test site (approx. 10 miles south of Area 51) from December 1988 to March 1989, where he took part in the reverse engineering of extraterrestrial craft. During this time Lazar relayed information to Lear about his alleged activities and experiences there.

During this time both Lear and Lazar claim that they were able to acquire a piece of the fuel that powered the craft, Element 115, conducting several experiments that proved the high gravitational attraction and heaviness of the element, among other things. Though, apparently, this evidence was "stolen" back.

Around March 1989 Bob Lazar, John Lear, Gene Huff and others organized several trips into the desert to view test flights from a distance. On one of these excursions, Lear claims to have witnessed a glowing yellow-orange, disc-shaped object that rose above the mountains at Groom Lake while looking through a Celestron telescope. On one of these trips, the group was eventually caught, and shortly thereafter, Bob Lazar ceased working at the test site.

In late 1989 KLAS-TV reporter George Knapp interviewed John Lear, which resulted in Knapp interviewing Bob Lazar and breaking the Area 51 / S-4 story to the public.

1990s to Present

In the mid to late '90s, John Lear had a break from UFO research. In November 2003 Lear appeared on the popular Coast to Coast AM radio show to give an interview (first time in a decade) with Art Bell, where he shared his views on UFO Disclosure, among other topics. In March 2004 he appeared in another interview discussing revelations and theories about the moon. Most recently John Lear has become a regular posting member on the conspiracy based discussion forums fantasticforum.com (Coast to Coast AM discussion forum) [2], and Abovetopsecret.com [3] where his Moon Photo Anomalies discussion thread has become very popular.

A third interview on Coast to Coast occurred in January of 2007, with Richard C. Hoagland, discussing their theories regarding artificial structures and life on the moon.

After that I then published a much more extensive version of the article on a conspiracy-focused Wikipedia-like site called TinWiki.org. As mentioned John Lear was open and accessible and I actually sent him the page to proof-read and check and he was very appreciative and also added some corrections. "Wow. You have done some incredibly accurate work." he mentioned to me in a personal message. For me, a young 'fan', to get a message like that from John Lear was quite something.
