Who is your favorite source of reliable information in Ufology?

I've been studying the phenomenon for over 30 years now, since I was a teenager. Just out of curiosity, and the fact it may introduce certain Ufologists to the group at large, who do you look for in the most reliable, entertaining way when it comes to writers, lecturers, etc. Basically anyone associated with the field of Ufology. As you all know, one must have a good BS detector in this area. And keeping it fun and interesting helps a lot too lol.

OK, old school, growing up, I would have to say Timothy Good and Stanton Friedman.
Now, I would definitely say it's a tie between Richard Dolan and our own Bill Ryan.
I know that both have ventured into other areas of alternative knowledge and that's just fine. But when I want what I believe to be the truth explained to me in a nice, easy rhythm with minimal BS, these are my two. Please feel free. There are no wrong answers. Thank you!

Tim Good and Stanton Friedmad are/were amongst the best. But neither has had anything new to say for years. Unfortunately Tim Good doesn't usually name names, he just says "very senior member of the MOD" or "senior official in a European navy". OK, he must protect sources if that's what they want, but but it makes poor reading and listening!

Richard Dolan on the other hand has ideas, theories and often provided names.

The trouble is, when you have people who earn a living being ufologists, (like Nick Pope and some of the Rendlesham and Roswell witnesses - or descendants thereof), they must keep the pot boiling by 'remembering' new stuff and embellishing the old.

Then there is Stephen Greer...

I was asked by a friend a couple of days ago which researchers or authors I'd recommend to an intelligent and curious person who knew almost nothing about the subject. Good question. My list was quite short:

• Richard Dolan, of course. Trained as an academic historian, and exemplary in everything he writes, says and does.

• Linda Howe, seasoned, smart, sane and professional, and who has been in the field forever, is close in quality.

• Timothy Good is another. He wrote one of the UFO researchers' 'Bibles', Above Top Secret, in 1988, which is as valid and valuable now as it was then.

• George Knapp is always fact-oriented, solid and grounded, a professional journalist and TV presenter himself.

• Jim Marrs, too: everything he does is impeccably researched. He wrote the excellent Alien Agenda.

• Colin Wilson wrote Alien Dawn ... significant because Wilson was an occult researcher and knew little about UFOs, but felt he should really take a look and write something. (And it was a good book, too, as Wilson was himself a beginner in the field.) If my memory serves me right, he read (or, probably skimmed through the indexes of!) 2,000 other books to prepare himself to write his own. That's real scholarship, and that's a dying skill.

As in all forms of research, individuals tend to nail their colours to the mast early on. Good researchers, when confronted with overwhelming evidence against their beliefs, will admit they were mistaken and move on.

Others cannot and will not.

They know who they are...

There is also Whitley Strieber, and Karla Turner. Her book "Masquerade of angels" is a classic.

• Dr David Jacobs too, absolutely — in the specialist field of abductions.

Thanks for the responses. I totally forgot Jim Marrs. Bill, you are absolutely correct. Timothy Good's Above Top Secret, Richard Dolan's two books UFOs and the National Security State, and Jim Marrs Alien Agenda would be the four books I would recommend to a newbie on the subject to get acquainted with the material. There are certainly many more to recommend but I'd start with those four. Thanks again!

John Keel is one of the best! Check out "Operation Trojan Horse". He was an excellent investigator and this book contains accounts I've never heard any where else. After many years investigating ufo's he began to have quite strange encounters of his own which are fascinating. His "Mothman Prophesies" is another incredible read about the ongoing strange phenomenon in Point Pleasant Va.(?) his experiences there and the people he interviewed. Some good info on the men in black. I'm surprised no one mentioned him here. I love the guy!

I never rely on a single source of info. I always collect from a variety of sources, then I compare and make up my own mind as to what rings as true and reliable to me.

These are as close a depiction I could find tonight of my own personal "live" source of reliable information experienced and witnessed by me in southeastern Peru in 2010 above the lower jungle of Puerto Maldonado, Lake Titicaca is not too far from there!

This top picture is similar to a very close one that lit up the whole cultural center I worked at...it moved extremely slowly/horizontally and a friend of mine and myself's hearts were more or less embraced by it...the smiles on our faces were from enchantment.

James Gilliland has had and recorded and written and speaks of many ufo encounters and sightings and interactions there...many of them having a "living interacting" quality about them and instantaneous direction changes.

Another admirer of John Keel here. You didn't mention The Eighth Tower (AKA The Cosmic Question), a thought provoking book. It's kind of like a continuance of The Mothman Prophecies but he adds his take on the paranormal. A link to a full PDF HERE, in case you haven't already read it.

You might enjoy this Youtube video. This is the Citizen's Hearing on Disclosure, Day 1. You can follow the links on the page for the other days. The hearing went on for a number of days. It had most of the reliable pundits in attendance. I watched it non stop when it was first published and was very impressed with it. This hearing is the most comprehensive group of speakers on the subject that I have come across.

Personal encounters are the most reliable source/s.After that is only searching for answers.

Those brilliant white or pale blue or orange or red or golden spheres of light passing so slowly or poping up from nowhere on the night sky and those feelings every time when they pass...WOW.

And not forget to mention the crafts.

Phil Schneider is my favorite. He was a true hero that I knew personally who survived thirteen attempts on his life (not counting being blasted and nearly killed by a tall Gray). After I was abducted into a deep underground military/Grays base and after seeing the new bullet hole scar on his shoulder that was not there before when he got into a shoot out with an FBI guy, I realized he was the real deal. He also allowed me to examine and handle the very interesting and exotic items from his locked metal case and the nature of these items also convinced me he was the real deal. The fourteenth attempt on his life in his home was unfortunately successful and the metal case came up missing.

Fortunately, he was not an unsung hero. Singer/songwriter/pianist Meryl Leppard recorded her "Disillusioned Patriot" song in honor of Phil.

I do respect scholarly work, but I would put my money on people who have been on alien craft, traveled in space, had experiences and lived to tell about it.

John Keel is a hero of mine. I think he gets forgotten a little. I appreciate you mentioning him here!

The fascinating thing about Keel and his research is that even against something as inherently strange as conventional ufology, his stuff still stands out as being *stranger*....and ironically, truer. And maybe something's wrong with me, but I kinda get off on the highly strange. I'm drawn to it like a magnet!

The thing i admire most about Keel is his ability to stay sane while practically drowning in the insane. Anyone who has read "the mothman prophesies" knows what I mean. He's a humble guy...admits to being intensely frightened and having his sanity tested at numerous times throughout this madness....but still comes out the other end with not only sanity intact but some fascinating research and highly original theories to boot. And this man was a dogged researcher! The discipline it must have took to collect all the data in his books...phew. Anyone who has read "opearation trojan horse" knows exactly what I mean. We have it easy now with the internent....this guy was a real grinder.

One of my favorite book titles is one called "what matters most is how well you walk thru the fire". It sits on the far end of my bookshelf...and I cant help but think of Keel when I glance at it. He was a HUGE influence on me and the way I viewed the paranormal. Still is.

I have looked at the Prohibition Movement early in the last century and the Peace/Love Movement of the 60's and how they were co-opted by special interests, the latter being ultimately managed by the intelligence community, according to such fine researchers as Peter Levenda.

So, in the past few months I have gone back to the work of Keel and Valles thinking that the same thing has happened to the UFO/Alien, and my sense is that it has. I think this movement has been managed, and that the truth lies closer to their work than a lot of recent work as to what exactly is going on.

My curiosity now lies with the work that such folks as Crowley and Parson were doing and what that had to do with portals opening, etc.

I had not heard of the aforementioned Colin Wilson and look forward to reading his works as well.....

Richard Dolan is my go-to guy.

I found the dual soul connection by New Zealands Susan Hansen one of the most uplifting and positive books on abduction and et interaction ..

After listening carefully to Tom DeLonge and Peter Levenda's interview with George Knapp on Coast to Coast AM on 26 February 2017, I'd be comfortable adding Peter Levenda to my list.

I'll throw in David Wilcock here although I know he is not well liked by most on Avalon.

Ok. I have not had the possibility to check that. It's quite a statement to say that his information is not "at all" reliable. Do you mean that what I have read in his three books and on his blog can be easily dismissed?? Is it possible for you to reveal some of these false facts here or would that require a new thread?

I've checked out James Gilliland a lot, I think he had a strange opinion on Donald Trump in the latest video posted, not mentioning the wall he wants to build against Mexico, the reopening of coalmines and the oil pipe crossing indigienious pples sacred land, and his stupid comments on what he could do to women with his power, also reducing the right to abortion as you all probably know. Otherwise I think James is an interesting guy who has had a lot of UFO sightings.

Those two threads are from 2012. With his recent advocacy of Corey Goode, his reliability is [at least] highly questionable.

David actually commented on "2012 never happened" in a video newly posted. I never believed in the 2012 prophesy but I think he has come up with a lot of interesting research, connecting some dots and since I'm heavily into synchronicity myself he's the only one taking these into account.

Apart from those mentioned by Bill which I agree with....

Wendelle Steven's "UFO CONTACT" books.

By far the best investigating ever done into UFO's.

His self published books can now be had for free via PDF files and downloaded, I'm pretty sure Bill has them here on Avalon.

When I began reading them they were incredibly expensive due to the low volume he initially published and incredibly hard to find.

You had to go to book collectors and haggle over price.

If you are over "lights" in the sky and video footage some one may or may not have faked you should check them out.

Wendelle's books focus on people who give testimony related to actually having met an occupant of a UFO.

I also recommend "I visited Ganymede" by Yosiph Ibram, I believe his contact story just for the record.

Linda Moulton Howe was high on my go-to list, but I said elsewhere she's too willing to just accept technical detail without understanding or questioning it. I've also started to notice she goes straight for the 'Gee Whiz' explanations instead of also carefully laying out the prosaic possibilities. For example, I know her listeners want to hear that some bright heavenly streak is attributed to the Secret Space Program and not a boring jet vapour trail caught in the sun, but both should be considered. And if a boring explanation does come to light, she should cover it.

Linda is by no means the only reporter in this field apparently too keen to 'sex up' stories and then not supply the real, probably dull, explanation. It's very common. Even the MSM don't always bother to cover the conclusion to a puzzling report concerning conventional matters!

And another thing... Linda (and anyone else who makes videos with little graphical content) really should get organised and make the audio available as a podcast to folks can download it so we can listen while doing other things. It would greatly increase the potential audience. What is the problem in doing that...?

(OK, there is simple software that will do that for YouTube if the video isn't too long, but why can't the presenter do it?)

I admire very much Kerry Cassidy, and one wonder why she was not mentioned on par with Linda Moulton How and Richard Dollan.

I am also following Catherin Austing Fitts, Richard Hoagland, Daniel List (dark jounranlist) and Joseph Farrel.
