Films/Movies with uplifting/inspiring themes, etc. etc.
I was sure I once saw a thread about this before but I cannot locate it now. No doubt it will soon be merged if the APTB* know otherwise.
Here's a thread to share those movies in which definitely had something to say. We're looking for positive messages here, no fear porn, but use your own discretion.
Example: A Clockwork Orange ~ A really troubling uncomfortable film, but thought-provoking to say the least.

Re: Films/Movies with uplifting/inspiring themes, etc. etc.
I just watched the new Chloe and Theo tonight.
https://youtube.com/watch?v=jBPDFz_PtgA
Around the middle of the film Theo has this to say..
"Your leaders don't have the power to change anything. Your television sets have the real power. They compel you to buy things that you do not need, and envy things that are worthless. They tell you to drive cars that cannot even move because everyone else is driving one, in cities where there is no clean air. They mock the way you look and affect your happiness. What can your leaders do about your happiness, when it is so corrupted that when you live each day it is based on consuming, devouring and wasting. Never happy until nothing is left."
It's a wonderfully refreshing film that is both inspiring, deeply saddening and ultimately thought-provoking. Put it on your lists. :)

Thanks Fanna. It was a film I'd always intended watching again as I'm sure I missed things. The reminder is appreciated. :)

I would recommend the movie Ink for anyone who hasn't seen it. It is a really touching story, had me bawling tears by the end of it :).

I also enjoyed "Cloud Atlas" but I would not have understood it very well without having read the book (which was better).
The most recent positive film I really liked was "The Sapphires" http://dvd.netflix.com/Movie/The-Sap...8?trkid=190393
https://youtube.com/watch?v=h2Ty4r6mvgg
"St. Vincent" was also rather a heartwarmer, Bill Murray was excellent.

I will see some Inuk pretty soon, I will ask them what they think of this beautiful movie, and if they speak true Inuktituk at the beginning of the movie.
It is a good descriptive of their gentle and innocent way of thinking as well as the problems they face at the North Pole. And of what they think of the white man.

From a comment: I did a search to understand what happened to her in the end. Wikipedia says she dropped out (matriculated) in the fall semester of 2003, after one year and a half. Just when this movie was released. In an interview with the New York times, she declared that she left because she didn't fit, and because she wanted to be near her dying father. She had the intention of finishing college, but not at Harvard. However, it took her three years to return. In 2006, after her father's death, she returned to Harvard and graduated in June 2009. In August 2009 she started doing summer graduate courses in order to get a doctorate in clinical psychology in order to become a counselor. She earns her life giving inspirational speeches. In 2010 she published a book on her life story, titled "Breaking Night"

I really liked Ink when I saw it.....
I just came across this documentary by Orson Welles I had never seen. It addresses illusion and fakery. The ideas are thought provoking....
Quote:
Welles puts forward some important and fascinating questions. Is a real work of art necessarily more interesting or inherently more valuable than its counterfeit? Has the charge of plagiarism outlived its usefulness? Has the public made de Hory and Irving folk heroes because they defied the experts? Can the film-maker ever evade the truth that his own craft is based on illusion, magic, and trickery?
In F For Fake, one of our century's most important directors uses the film medium as a way of investigating the nature of reality. Welles speaks only in fits and starts, but his fragments flamboyantly testify to the essential imperviousness of life's most basic mysteries.

If you find yourself a loose ends you might consider seeing this movie or at least the review. It was recommended above but...this review is quite in-depth and almost as good as watching the movie. Well, not quite, but it's pretty good. Of all the people I know that watched it only one person actually liked it. Perhaps the others didn't get it or it was too long, I don't know, but the Angry Hippy does a pretty good review. Enjoy.
Cloud Atlas is the first movie of its kind to combine eastern philosophy with western theoretical physics. Giving us a movie that synergistically explores the concepts of quantum entanglement and reincarnation.
At face value, this film is about our actions rippling across time, affecting the preceding lives to come. Yet, there is much more going on beneath the surface.
The Philosophy of Cloud Atlas extends far beyond the limitations of a movie.
You see, reality — existence, is a mystery.
Humans try to make sense of it all. Depending on the frame of reference, there will be a different explanation for reality.
Religions formed originally with the intent of questioning reality, before becoming the institutionalized social indoctrination machines that they are now.
Despite the dogmatic thinking displayed by some scientists,
Science is the closest we have to a non-biased approach of viewing reality. As, science is simply analyzing what can be weighed and measured.
However, with the development of quantum mechanics, humans have been analyzing the fundamentals of reality, and they show that not all aspects of reality can be weighed or measured.
One such aspect of reality is consciousness.
Sure, we can study brain activity, and see which part of the brain is firing the neurones in correlation to the experience of the human.
But, none of these things are measuring consciousness. It in and of itself is a mystery that is still trying to be solved by modern scientists.
If one takes the time to study quantum mechanics, you’ll find that things are not what they same.
Everything is in relation to something else.
That is to say, that the appearance of solid matter, is an illusion created by wavelengths vibrating at specific frequencies, pulling subatomic particles together, forming atoms, molecules, cells and so on.
Atoms are 99% empty space, meaning that the appearance of solid matter, is an illusion of the brain.
Our brain receives a copious amount of information, in which it filters through giving us the perception of reality
that we have.
We’re going to have to use metaphors to describe reality from this view, but from a quantum perspective, we are a field of energy, manifested in a physical 3 Dimensional Space-Time continuum, that we call the universe.
The Universe as its definition states, is of space and time and their contents, including planets, stars, galaxies, and all other forms of matter and energy.
That is to say -- everything including you or I -- is the universe.
Now, what is Consciousness from a quantum perspective?
What is consciousness from a 4th dimensional perspective and onwards? Where space-time is now interconnected.
You see, the perception of reality, from these higher dimensional perspectives, is very different from our 3D perspective.
In our 3D manifestation of the universe, we are apparently, separated, time is linear, and reality is a sequence of events from birth to death.
Now, from the perspective of 5D space, all things, all points in time, are indistinguishable from one another.
There is no future, past or present, these concepts of time only exist in the 3D universe. But, in the 5D universe everything is one.
It is hard if not impossible, to wrap our heads around this concept, which is so alien from our normal experience of life, and the assumptions we have about it.
But, from the 5D perspective onwards, reality is one simultaneous experience of the beginning and end of existence, to the point of which there is no beginning and end.
These mind bending realizations are directly related to the teachings of ancient eastern philosophy.
The perception is, is that the universe is one, and we are one with it.
They say that the soul, or consciousness in this regard, is experiencing itself in every possible variation.
Is this not what the universe is doing?
From a single point, the big bang, to every manifestation of matter?
Quantum entanglement shows that there remains a connection between particles, Even after they’ve been separated.
Apply this to the big bang, and you’ll see that the correlation exists. That both these perspectives of science and spirituality, are showing that we are all one, experiencing itself subjectively as all forms of matter in the universe.
From this perspective, we can see how consciousness, which can neither be weighed or measured, is a artifact of the higher dimensions.
That is to say that you, exist on multiple dimensions, simultaneously.
The point of view which is you, has already died and been born again. You are just living through it from a 3D perspective, through a linear motion of time.
And, with that being the case, you are everything experiencing itself. But, from this 3D perspective, you are the body that identifies you as an individual.
We are all one.

Re: Films/Movies with uplifting/inspiring themes, etc. etc.
And...another favorite, Avatar. A beautiful movie and a beautiful review.
I throw this quote in to compliment the review:
Quote:
We did not think of the great open plains, the beautiful rolling hills, and the winding streams with tangled growth as “wild.” Only to the White man was nature a “wilderness” and only to him was the land infested by “wild” animals and “savage” people. To us it was tame. Earth was bountiful and we were surrounded with the blessings of the Great Mystery. Not until the hairy man from the east came and with brutal frenzy heaped injustices upon us and the families we loved was it “wild” for us.
– Luther Standing Bear, Land of the Spotted Eagle
Back when AVATAR was released, there were news articles depicting a large number of people feeling depression and suicidal after watching the movie. As someone who felt this depression after seeing the movie for the first time in cinemas, I can tell you that the depression does not stem from the want to be on Pandora, the depression stems from the fact that this Earth *IS* Pandora.
The depression settles in as more realizations begin to occur. Humanity is allowing itself to become a disease to the planet, all for the sake of material gain. In any movie review of James Cameron’s AVATAR, we are mostly told it is praised for it’s CGI and not for it’s story. Which for the most part, lacked originality.
Comparisons are made to previous stories. Stories such as Ferngully, Pocahontas, and Dances with Wolves. Yet, what astounds me is that while people compare AVATAR to these films, they do not compare it to the events and situations that these films are focused on. Events and situations that are still ongoing to this day.
AVATAR uses symbolism and imagery to portray the atrocities committed by the Corporatocracy.
And, how our ignorance not only allows these atrocities to occur — but, also has halted our evolution.
AVATAR is not only a social commentary on the Extortion of Natural Resources, Exploitation of Indigenous Peoples, or Aboriginal Genocide. It is a simulation of what life can be..
Every claim in the analysis can be researched by anyone and a clear consensus can be reached.
The film not only shows that the planet we are from is the mother of all life, it shows an alternative form of humanity. The Na'Vi are representative of Neohumanism*, the next stage in our evolutionary path. The humans depicted in the film are clearly shown to be from the Western world. Working for Corporations that seek to maximize profits regardless of social or environmental loss. So, what we have here is a film depicting two possible forms of humanity, the old paradigm vs the new paradigm,
I hope this video shows you a new perspective on life or affirms your perspective. Enjoy.

Big thanks to Lefty Dave for posting this.

It reminded me of this film which I just watched again. It ticks all the boxes of the thread title. If you want a really beautiful time out and uplifting spiritual detox from the current madness, then fill yer boots here.
'La Belle Verte' was banned in France when it was released in 1996, which was a very telling decision. It's often quirky and makes some profoundly powerful points with delightful subtlety. In places it is also uproariously funny.
Jeez, I feel so much better for having watched it again. :sun:

Not sure why this thread did not gain more traction, it is almost 5 years since I started it and in those interveneing years I guarantee that each and every one of you has seen something that left you feeling uplifted.
Here was where you should/could have shared that with your fellow travellers - so with that tongue in cheek admonishment, ;), let us continue.

Re: Films/Movies with uplifting/inspiring themes, etc. etc.
One of the most challenging for me was the feature film "Arrival" (2016)
A kind of natural arbitration of a linguistic event, a kind of adaptation outside the general human-specific communication features.
I liked the simple, natural presentation of choosing the good, the human, the beautiful. The film gave me a broad creative perspective beyond any thoroughly philosophical foundation.
It was something new for me, and I guess for each person the understanding of the film differs, which is great.

As an aspect of UFO, I like the beautiful impact with the "crew" more, especially when the main character of the film says: "They have to see me!" "Now, this is a proper introduction"!

Re: Films/Movies with uplifting/inspiring themes, etc. etc.
We watched this last night and found it beautiful...
It's about growing up & forgetting, and much else besides...it's also stunningly animated, thought provoking & funny
The Little Prince (2015)
https://s1.qwant.com/thumbr/0x380/9/...=0&b=1&p=0&a=1
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1754656/?ref_=tt_urv
From a Slate review...
'The Little Prince, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s 1943 novella about an aeronaut who meets a boy from outer space, felt, 70 years ago, like a dream—it took place in a world of unprocessed psychology, the thoughts and feelings you might have before you even realize you’re thinking and feeling. The prince loved a rose, which loved him back but tormented him with demands. He flew from asteroid to asteroid, meeting lonely denizens of the drab adult world: an acquisitive businessman, a narcissist, an impotent ruler. Having arrived at the Sahara, he befriended a fox, entranced the aviator, and made a deathly bargain with a snake. The Little Prince was all imagination and couldn’t remain on Earth. So the aviator turned him into something unearthly: a book.'
And the film - on Netflix at the moment - is of the book...
