Deadly E. coli mixes common toxin with rare "glue"
(Reuters) - Scientists probing the deadly E. coli strain in Europe are finding the bacteria combines a highly poisonous, but common, toxin with a rarely seen "glue" that binds it to a patient's intestines.
It may take months for the global team of researchers to fully understand the characteristics of the bacteria that has killed at least 17 people in Europe and sickened 1,500. But they fear this E. coli strain is the most toxic yet to hit a human population.
Most Escherichia coli or E. coli bacteria are harmless. The strain that is sickening people in Germany and other parts of Europe, known as 0104:H4, is part of a class of bacteria known as Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli, or STEC.
This class has the ability to stick to intestinal walls where it pumps out toxins, causing diarrhea and vomiting. In severe cases, it causes hemolytic uremic syndrome or HUS, attacking the kidneys and causing coma, seizure and stroke... link

AN entirely new strain of the drug-resistant MRSA superbug has been found in cow's milk and people in Britain and Denmark.
The previously unseen variant "potentially poses a public health problem," said lead researcher Mark Holmes, senior lecturer in preventive veterinary medicine at Cambridge University.
There was no general threat to the safety of pasteurized milk and dairy products, but people working with animals could be at risk, said the study published in The Lancet Infectious Diseases...

Koch Industries, weather changes...

The financial instruments of weather derivatives can help corporations manage their exposure to weather conditions whose effects on demand cannot be adequately compensated for by pricing. And unlike insurance, weather derivatives pay out when the index (of rainfall, temperature, etc.) hits a threshold, without the buyer needing to prove damages through claims procedures. The weather derivatives market was born in 1997 after deregulation of the US energy industry, when energy resellers realised that they were exposed to dramatic volatility in demand related to weather. A hedge was needed against the weather events that drove energy demand, and the first instrument was structured in a transaction between Koch Industries Inc., and Enron Corp. based on a temperature index for Milwaukee in such a way that Enron would pay Koch each day the temperature fell below normal (per degree), while Koch would pay for every degree above normal on warmer days...

Here's a car that will get you back and forth to work on the cheap.......
$600 for the car.
258 miles per gallon...
Only a one-seater, however
Talk about cheap transportation .......
Volkswagen's $600 car gets 258 mpg -- It looks like Ford, Chrysler and GM missed the boat again!
this isn't something that would upset an oil man is it? ;)Attachment 7875
where can i get one of those?
dang
peace
258? Thats great!
cheap all electric will be next...
It will always be in the future, they will never put it in your hands.
Do not allow promises anymore.
Get off your duff (backside) and FORCE answers into existence.

update on the $600 VW...
Quote:
Volkswagen is calling it the "World's Most Economical car", but the price (get ready for this) is not going to be 4000RMB or $600.00 US as rumors had it. Official reports have it in the $25,900.00 price range, and that Volkswagen will be making a limited number for release in 2010.
Putting things in perspective, you could drive from Los Angeles to New York with less than 10 gallons of fuel, which will put the cost of fuel for the trip at under $30.00. Now, how do you get your luggage from L.A. to N.Y. is another story... link
A Chief NASA scientist, Dennis Bushnell has came out in support of Andrea Rossi's E-Cat technology, but denies any type of nuclear fusion is taking place, saying it is probably beta decay per the Widom Larson Theory. Repackaging the terminology to avoid embarrassment will not erase over twenty years of suppression and the reality of cold fusion!
