Default Shifting Earth, Landslides and Cracks

Monster cracks appear in the ground after landslide and heavy rains destroy over 100 buildings in Cusco, Peru (PHOTOS, VIDEO)

    Tom Towers Daily Star
    Fri, 02 Mar 2018 12:00 UTC

HORROR: More than 30 hectares of earth moved as the ground was torn apart in Peru

It comes after heavy rainfall and an ensuing landslide that destroyed more than 100 houses, a school and a hospital.

Over the past 10 days, more than 30 hectares of earth moved as the ground was torn apart in the district of Llusco in the south of country.

Shocking footage shows deep chasms and crumbled buildings as stunned residents look on.

The government has since declared a state of emergency that is expected to last 60 days as authorities bring aid to the displaced.

The Centre of Operations for Regional Emergencies said "there has been no personal damages but a number of homes were flattened. There is collective panic."

A team of experts will be sent to the disaster area to carry about evaluations of the tectonic plates.

Last month, a powerful 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Peru, killing one man and leaving dozens injured.

It occurred 124km (77 miles) south west of Puqio in the south of the country at a depth of 10km (6 miles).

A tsunami warning was put in place near the epicentre of the quake but later withdrawn.

Parts of the country were left without electricity and some houses collapsed in the chaos.

    Strange Sounds reports:
    From 2018:

The cracks and ground movement have already started in 2012 in the region, however, in recent weeks, the situation has become too dangerous, with villagers evacuating homes and seeking refuge in other settlements far away.

On March 2, 2018, a new landslide occurred around 3 am and caused the collapse of 37 homes, the health center of the city, a stretch of 300 meters of road and threatens to destroy a primary and secondary school. There are now at least 53 large cracks - due to earthquakes and heavy rains - destabilizing the ground in the region.

Herve, saw all this info yesterday and here's some more on Trinidad. Thanks for posting all above, stay tuned, lots moving around.

    http://www.zetatalk.com/newsletr/issue595.htm

And as pointed out in a recent Newsletter, Issue 590, where quake activity rolls in a West to East fashion, the S American roll was encouraged to pick up the pace. During the roll, the island of Trinidad off-coast from Venezuela is torn apart, as the S American Plate border cuts through the center of Trinidad. As a recent video shows, Trinidad shows recent evidence of a dramatic rupturing and ripping action, on February 13, 2018.

Homes Evacuated as Mud Volcano Erupts in Trinidad
    February 13, 2018
    https://www.caribbean360.com/news/ho...rupts-trinidad
A few homes in a community in the south of Trinidad have been evacuated following at least two eruptions at the Devil’s Wood Yard mud volcano this morning.

ZetaTalk Prediction 1/5/2010: Those islands in the chain close to S America will lose in elevation, while those islands at the top of the chain will not. From Antigua south, the islands in this chain can expect a minimum of an elevation drop of 57 feet, on average, with this being irregular throughout due to the trauma to the area. Islands just to the north of S America will be affected the most such that Barbados to Tobago may sink entirely except for the highest points, losing several hundred feet in elevation, and Trinidad will be torn apart in addition to sinking as it rides on the plate border.

    Thanks.

I'm not even sure as yet that any of this is actually unusual. If a bit of land shifts/collapses in some remote jungle no-one will notice, and 20, 30 years later no-one would even know except a geologist or trained observer.
Today, with the advent of the internet and international coverage of events these occurences are very noticable. If we search images of terrain we can see evidence of old landslides in the countours of the landscape.
Underground streams seem commonplace and over long periods of time considerable cavities must form in certain locations. The land above just waits for the right circumstances to settle in, a tremor, saturation points of soils from heavy rains etc.

Yes, it could be something bigger beyond my/our understanding, but it could also be quite mundane and natural. (Certainly not mundane to the people affected by them).

Agreed Ewan. We're just able to see this stuff better now. Same for the so-called increase in crazy weather. Once everyone has a video camera you get loads of great and unusual videos.

Perhaps someone can come up with a thread entitled "World's drivers getting worse! Is it Illuminati/5G mind control?" just because so much video of crazy driving is now available...

Herve, I'm good with the guidelines here, and yes the earth is consistently moving in regards to the plates . With our day and age of instant info one could take a perspective that these cracks have been happening on a regular occurrence since the earth was formed. However I've been a constant observer of the 24 hour quake chart for probably 10 years. Looking at that chart from 10 years ago to todays activity, my personal opinion is there has been a 30-40% increase overall on a given 24 hour period which correlates to these movements in the plates or cracks if you will.

That's interesting. What's the official line from professional geologists? More activity or better observation and improved monitoring of activity?

Huge earth crack several hundred miles long opens up in Pakistan

A gigantic earth fissure opened up in Qila Abdullah following the recent downpours in Balochistan, Pakistan. The unprecedented crack spans several hundred miles sparking panic among the local residents.

After huge fissures were recently discovered in Arizona, Antarctica and South Africa, another large earth crack has formed after recent heavy rain in Pakistan's Balochistan Province.

This is the longest known crack in and around Quila Abdullah, spanning several hundred miles and sparking panic among local residents.

    Other cracks in Balochistan?

Earth fissures are not unusual for this geologically amazing region. In this region of Pakistan, the Indo-Pakistan portion of the Indian-Australian plate rubs its shoulder against the Afghan portion of the Eurasian plate. A dangerous stretched zone!

This creates the Ornach-Nal and Chaman fault tracks exceptionally prominent at places on the surface*, similarly to the San Andres fault in California.

    Our Earth is cracking apart!

Massive fissure discovered in Arizona desert

A two-mile-long earth fissure was discovered in southern Pinal County, the Arizona Geological Survey announced Monday. © AZGS/Anne Stegen

Pinal County - A large crack in the desert landscape was just charted by the Arizona Geological Survey.

The AZGS announced the discovery Monday after exploring the earth fissure with drone video, which you can see in the video below.

This fissure formed between March 2013 and December 2014. This one is more than half a mile longer than other fissures in the area. The fissure may have grown because of the heavy rains in fall of 2014.

Fissures pose a threat to people off-roading and riding ATVs in the area. Roaming livestock can also fall in and get stuck. Standing near the edge of a fissure can be dangerous because it can suddenly cave in.

The fissure is about 25 miles south of Arizona City, just south of Aries Drive near Sunland Gin Road.

The Arizona Geological Survey says the fissures form after "extensive groundwater withdraw in the Sonoran Desert.

Fissures are fairly common in central Arizona, with a cluster of fissures around Eloy, and in Cochise, La Paz, Maricopa, Pima and Pinal Counties.

The first fissures appeared near Eloy in 1929, according to the AZGS.

It was the first time the AZGS used a drone to examine a fissure.

Incredible drone footage captures giant cracks left by New Zealand earthquake (VIDEOS)

    RT
    Tue, 22 Nov 2016 16:46 UTC

    © GNS Science / YouTube

Following the 7.8-magnitude earthquake which struck New Zealand's South Island last week, scientists sent a drone to examine the damage left in its wake along the Kekerengu and Papatea fault line ruptures.

The footage shows the extent of the damage caused, and is a sobering watch in light of the latest earthquakes that struck the country Tuesday. The North Island was hit with a 6.0-magnitude earthquake. The South Island also experienced a 5.3 quake a few hours later that may have been an aftershock from the previous week.

The Kekerengu Fault is one of several to have ruptured during the Kaikoura earthquake on the South Island. Scientists estimate the surface rupture to be about 30km (19 miles) long.

The videos were created by GNS Science, a geoscience research company. They sent a drone over both the Kekerengu Fault and the Papatea Fault in the northeast South Island with captivating results, highlighting the damage sustained as well as New Zealand's beautiful landscapes.

In some parts of the Kekerengu Fault, the earth moved 9 meters (30t) horizontally and 1.83 meters (6ft) vertically, GNS says.

Drone footage from the Papatea Fault shows rocks that were pushed up from the seabed by the earthquake. An uplift of land on the coast has caused a small lagoon to form between the rocky uplift and the beach. In some places, a 6 meter shift of the seabed occurred.

Both road and railway tracks have been damaged by the two and a half minute quake which killed two people and caused difficulties for many New Zealanders that were stranded after transport routes were damaged.

Mysterious earth crack nearly a kilometer in length terrifies residents of Aponte, Colombia

    Strange Sounds

    © Entorno Inteligente

What started with a small fissure in early 2015 is today a giant mysterious earth crack nearly a kilometer in length that crosses the village of Aponte, Colombia. The crack has caused enormous damage to roads and houses in the village of Aponte in Nariño. At least 210 families are affected by this geological anomaly.

The gigantic crack is growing and devastating Aponte, Colombia, but nobody knows its origin.

The unexplained crack in the ground is 1,200 meters long and 50 centimeters wide. At some points its depth reaches up to four meters.

The enormous crack has caused large damage to roads in Nariño. Only in Aponte 170 houses are cracked and have to be evacuated.

At least 210 families are currently affected by the growing fissure.

© Harold Cordoba via RCN Radio

Since December 2015, ten families are monitoring the changes along the crack.

Results show that since December 24th the the fissure increases by 20 to 50 millimeters.

Some days, rumblings similar to wind blowing out of the ground are heard. On such days, the separation sometimes reach one centimeter.

An engineering battalion was sent by Bogota to investigate the failure.

According to the ancient Inga indians living on that ancestral land, Earth is looking for ways to draw attention to the damage it is currently suffering.

Watch the crack on this video by Miguel Córdoba... Terrifying:

The Indian village is about to disappear and there is no immediate solution in sight. Terrible!

Massive crack in earth mysteriously opens up in Bighorn Mountains

    Fri, 30 Oct 2015 13:58 UTC

Hunters on a private ranch in the Bighorn Mountains of Wyoming stumbled upon an incredible and mysterious scene: a massive crack in the earth
that in some places resembles a mini Grand Canyon.

SNS Outfitter & Guides first reported the anomaly on its Facebook page on Friday, saying it "appeared in the last two weeks on a ranch we hunt in the Bighorn Mountains. Everyone here is calling it 'the gash.' It's a really incredible sight."

With no earthquakes reported in the area, locals were stunned and at a loss to explain the shift of soil and rocks that left the gaping crack estimated to be 750 yards long by 50 yards wide.

The opening is said to be located 10 miles south of Tensleep, Wyoming, in the foothills of the Bighorn Mountains.

Randy Becker of Casper, Wyoming, was hunting in the area over the weekend and shot and shared amazing photos of the scene, which he called "an awesome example of how our earth is not as stable as you might think. Awesome forces at work here to move this much dirt!!"

SNS Outfitter & Guides followed up on Monday with this brief explanation:

"An engineer from Riverton, WY came out to shed a little light on this giant crack in the earth. Apparently, a wet spring lubricated across a cap rock. Then, a small spring on either side caused the bottom to slide out."

    © Randy Becker

A cap rock is described as a harder or more resistant rock type overlying a weaker or less resistant rock type. So what does that mean?

Seth Wittke, geological manager with the Wyoming Geological Survey in Laramie, explained the event in the Bighorn Mountains as simply a landslide.

"Without getting out there and looking at it, I can't be positive, but from what I've seen on the Internet it looks like a slow-moving landslide," Wittke told GrindTV in a phone interview.

Regarding the engineer's explanation about a spring and lubrication, Wittke said, "A lot of landslides are caused by subsurface lubrication by ground moisture or water and things like that, or in this case, a spring."

Wittke described it as a "fairly small event given the overall aspect of how big landslides can be" and said such an occurrence in the fall in Wyoming is "probably more rare" than it happening in the spring when you'd expect more moisture.

"But they do happen year round, so it's not out of the ordinary," Wittke said.

Nevertheless, to the general public, it's an astonishing event.

So, could the gaping hole continue to grow?

"Yeah, as long as there's room for it to move it could keep moving," Wittke said.

Scientists claim mysterious Menominee crack in Michigan is unusual 'geological pop-up' feature - but don't know what caused it

Seismologists studying a massive crack in the ground that appeared north of Menominee, Michigan in 2010 now think they know what the unusual feature might be. But as they explain in their study published this week in the journal Seismological Research Letters, there are still some mysteries to clear up about the strange geological occurrence in the rural Michigan woods.

A team of scientists led by Wayne Pennington of Michigan Technological University says that the crack, which lies along the crest of a two-meter-high ridge that appeared at the same time, is probably a "pop-up" feature. Pop-ups occur in places where shallowly-buried rock layers spring upward after having been weighed down by rock or ice. Pop-ups—sometimes called "A-tents" for their shape—may develop in places where the earth rebounds upward after an overlying glacier shrinks away, or when rock overburden is removed in a quarry.

However, the last glaciers retreated from Menominee 11,000 years ago—and there isn't any quarrying in the area.

"One of our reasons for publishing this was that in our search of the literature we could find no other mention of modern pop-ups that didn't occur at something like the base of a quarry, where people had removed massive amounts of rock earlier," Pennington explained. "As far as we can tell, this is a one-of-a-kind event."

Residents near Menominee heard a loud noise and shaking in the early morning of October 4, 2010, and soon discovered the crack when they went into the nearby woods to clean up the debris left from removing a big double-trunked white pine tree a few days earlier. The crack split the ground for 110 meters, and was as deep as 1.7 meters in some places. Tree trunks tilted at precarious angles on either side of the fracture.

Pennington went to visit the site on his way back home from a scientific conference, he recalled. He paced off some measurements in his dress shoes and collected some GPS data with his phone. "I was completely blown away by it, because it wasn't what I was expecting when I saw it," he recalled. "It wasn't like anything I had seen before."

Although the crack was the most dramatic feature, Pennington was intrigued by the new ridge underneath it. "I kept trying to think of ways that there could have been an uplift from a thrusting earthquake or something, but anything like that requires such a huge amount of displacement in order to produce that amount of crustal shortening, that nothing made sense."

He shared the photos and data with his colleagues, until Stanford University geophysicist Norm Sleep pointed out that the feature formed from a shallow-buried layer of limestone, and looked like a pop-up. "This made perfect sense to us," Pennington said, "except for what caused it. And that then became the puzzle."

The researchers needed to get a better look at the rock underneath the ridge to confirm that it was a pop-up, so they turned to a technique called seismic refraction. The technique measures the speed of seismic waves as they travel within layers of the earth, as determined at different distances from the seismic source. In this case, the seismologists used a sledgehammer to strike a large metal ball lying on the ground, and captured the resulting seismic waves.

In broken rock, the waves travel faster as they move parallel to cracks in the rock, and slower when they move perpendicular to the cracks and have to travel across the fractures. The scientists found a pattern of refraction speeds that seemed to be consistent with the intense bending and then fracturing of the brittle limestone of a pop-up feature.

But what caused the pop-up to...pop-up? Without the usual suspects in play, Pennington and his colleagues had to do a little detective work. The limestone in the area may have been stressed almost to the point of cracking when the last glaciers retreated, they say. The recent removal of the double-trunked pine, which may have weighed as much as 2000 kilograms—over two tons—could have been the final straw, allowing the rock to bend upward when that weight was removed.

"There's a 60% chance that this explanation we provide is the right one," Pennington noted. "But since we haven't seen this kind of thing elsewhere, and the tree is such a small effect, we wonder if there might be something else."

The seismologists studied aerial photos of the region to see how soil has been removed in the past 50 years from road work and a re-design of the area's drainage system. These changes might have channeled more rainwater below the surface, potentially weakening the rock as it froze and thawed, the scientists suggest.

Pennington said "no one should be losing sleep" over the strange feature, which technically counted as the first natural earthquake in Michigan's Upper Peninsula—measuring less than magnitude 1.

"It may be a one-of-a kind phenomenon," he said. "But if it happens again, we'll be all over it, trying to figure it out."

The trees in back are tipping about 30 degrees and the earth around the crack has risen about 5 feet with other little fissures spreading out from center. EagleHerald/Rick Gebhard

    This

    and this

are mainly soil erosion, with the soil diapering down a previous fault/crack.
The fence in both images show that, if they where land mass movement the fence would have been stretched and broken.

    Just wondering.
Is it possible and or know phenomenon that a layer under the surface soil layer can move apart with out showing on the surface, well not straight away anyway?

Washington state braces for a huge landslide: Seventy residents from a farming town are evacuated amid fears a cracked ridge could spill four million cubic yards of rock by March
    • A slow-moving landslide has officials on high alert in Union Gap, Washington
    • A fracture in Rattlesnake Ridge was first noticed in October and is now moving at about 2.5 inches a day
    • Experts say the landslide will happen sometime between the end of January and early March
    • Geologists say the landslide will likely fizzle out in a nearby quarry, but there's a chance it could wipe out some mobile homes and spill over I-82 to dam a river
    • Officials have decided to keep I-82 open, and have set up shipping containers filled with concrete barriers to protect drivers from falling rock

A slow-moving landslide in a fertile farming region in Washington state has forced evacuations as officials prepare for what they say is inevitable — the collapse of a ridge that sits above a few dozen homes and a key highway.

People in Washington are especially wary of landslides following one in 2014 north of Seattle that swept through a tiny community and across a state road, killing dozens.

Experts say the slide could happen as soon as late January or early February above Union Gap, a small agricultural town in the rolling brown foothills of the Cascade Range.

A chunk of one ridge about the size of 24 football fields is expected to break off, spilling an estimated four million cubic yards of rocks and dirt - enough to fill more than 1,200 Olympic swimming pools.

Opinions on the impact vary widely, ranging from little damage to widespread flooding, especially in Union Gap. Some worry floodwaters will stretch into Yakima, which has 94,000 residents and sits just a few miles away.

About 70 people have been evacuated due to a slow-moving landslide in Washington state. Pictured above is the crack in Rattlesnake Ridge on January 3

Experts say the landslide will most likely fizzle out in a nearby quarry. But there's a small chance it could spill over I-82 and dam the Yakima River

Also nearby are the Yakima River and Interstate 82, which connects Oregon to busy Interstate 90.

I82 is the main route through central Washington's Yakima Valley, which produces many of America's hops, cherries, apples and mint. The state has deemed it safe to remain open but has placed 44 shipping containers — filled with concrete barriers and weighing 9 to 14 tons each — at the bottom of the ridge to keep random rocks from tumbling into traffic.

The hillside has been sliding since at least October, when authorities began monitoring huge cracks in Rattlesnake Ridge's western slope. At that time, the landslide was moving at less than an inch (25 millimeters) per day. More recently, it has been measured sliding at 2.5 inches (64 millimeters) per day.

Residents in a nearby collection of mobile homes were evacuated on January 11.

Looming over all this are memories of a massive March 22, 2014, landslide in the community of Oso. That slide killed 43 people and covered 1 square mile with mud and debris. And more recently this month's deadly landslide in Southern California.

Authorities have already evacuated about 60 residents who live in trailers and a few buildings near Union Gap, population 6,000. They are staying in paid hotel rooms for five weeks, although their future accommodations are up in the air.

Alejandro Mejia has lived below the ridge for about 14 years, and last week helped family members move some of their belongings.

'I feel kind of terrible ... that the hill is going to fall,' Mejia said, calling it a 'life or death situation.'

Mejia said he has climbed up the ridge to look at the fracture in the ground.

'It's pretty wide, the crack up there,' Mejia said. 'It's way, way deep.'

In this Monday, Jan. 8, 2018, photo, James Gleeson, a surveyor with the Washington State Department of Transportation, takes measurements from the shoulder of Interstate 82 to monitor a slow-moving landslide on Rattlesnake Ridge beyond in Union Gap, Washington

Flooding is a worst-case scenario, said Washington Gov. Jay Inslee, who toured the site earlier this month.

'It is not predicted for this to happen,' Inslee said, noting emergency preparations are nonetheless in place for Union Gap.

Asked about the possibility of the slide reaching and damming the Yakima River, Inslee said geologists have indicated that is unlikely.

Still, 'we have to make sure we monitor this on an hourly basis because if something changes, we want to be able to respond on a minute-by-minute response plan,' the governor said.

'That is the very, very worst case scenario,' Lisa Freund, spokeswoman for the Yakima Valley Office of Emergency Management, said of the river being dammed by a slide. Freund said officials do not know what triggered the cracking.

Other experts disagree about potential damage from a major slide.

Bruce Bjornstad, a retired geologist and independent consultant, has contended a sudden landslide could wipe dozens of cars off the interstate and dam the river, causing flooding in portions of the urban area.

But an engineering firm hired by Columbia Asphalt & Gravel, which operates a quarry below the slide area, concluded any slide is likely to be slow-moving and mostly contained by the quarry.

Some residents have suggested using explosives to trigger the landslide, but Inslee said that is not an option.

'The state does not have enough confidence that that wouldn't create a larger problem,' the governor said.

    Patience is paramount, he added.

'We are treating this slide with extreme caution, with extreme sensitivity and the nth degree of evaluation,' Inslee said.

Giant cracks are opening all around the world. While terrifying landslide and fissures are perforating the ground in Peru, another large and unexplained geological event split the Earth [ground] in two over at least 200 meters in desertic Saudi Arabia.

The deep crack is still growing. It was discovered on February 27, 2018, in Al-Majma'a Governorate, north of Riyadh.

Government geologists are currently investigating the strange ground fissure, extending over 200 meters and splitting the Earth [ground] in two.

The 200 meter main crack probably appeared after heavy rain.

Could the slowing of the Earth's rotation have anything to do with all this....or maybe the Electric Universe idea of the heavenly bodies pulling & tugging at one another?
