Many years ago, when I was a kid, I remember laughing out loud at a magazine article — I think it was the New Yorker — about the German propensity for gluing smaller words together to make an enormous monster word.

This article was about dogs, referring to a huntenpantenschniffenhund ... and that was just where it started.

I spend a lot of time in Finland and frequently have too much time on my hands. Trying to learn the longest words out there became a game. This is the official longest word but there are others that are longer.

Widely accepted as the longest Finnish word is a 61-character creation (drum roll, please): lentokonesuihkuturbiinimoottoriapumekaanikkoaliupseerioppilas.

It refers to someone who is an 'aeroplane jet turbine motor assistant mechanic, non-commissioned officer, in training'.

Just be happy you don't have to put it on a business card or letterhead.

This video is nearly two minutes of improvised, non-stop nonsense — ad-libbed on the spot with zero preparation or script. It was merely an impromptu lighting and sound test for the real thing.

A masterclass in presentation (and stand-up comedy) skills. Enjoy.

Whenever I see a woman cleaning excessively, I delight in telling her she has spermophobia.

This obviously throws her a bit until I explain the word means excessive fear of germs!

    Try it...

Just because we can understand the words doesn’t mean the context is correct.... the actual intention of this video was comedy and he NAILED it. I snort laughed through the entire video. Good stuff. I’m sure every non-reversal tremmy pipe is supposed to connect to the differential girdle spring 😂

This was a real hoot wasn't it

Something about its presentation and delivery reminded me of the late great Ronnie Barker - an English comedian -and some of his (admittedly scripted) hilarious wordplay.

As for example, with this gem of a piece:

    Ronnie Barker monologue: Pismronunciation
“If a man does not keep pace with [fall into line with] his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away.” - Thoreau

Of course no thread of this nature would be quite complete without reference to Douglas Adams' The Meaning of Liff.

    Source: http://lib.ru/ADAMS/liff.txt

Inside its quite uniquely hilarious content are little gems such as these:
    KALAMI (n.)

The ancient Eastern art of being able to fold road-maps properly.
    KETTERING (n.) **
The marks left on your bottom or thighs after sunbathing on a
    wickerwork chair.
(**For those unfamiliar with English geography Kettering is in fact a town in the English county of Northamptonshire rendering its use here more hilarious still - TQ)

Supercalafragilisticexpeallidousious. I have no idea what this means or if I spelled it correctly. But it was a "word" in vogue in the 60's.
    Satori,

You have the meaning of the first one just a little bit off If I recall correctly(and based on prefixes:

Antidisestablishmentarianism is indeed a position on the church of england but it was opposite from what you suggested. It was actually the Pro Church of England camp that was against(anti) getting rid of the CoE (Disestablisment) as the religion of the state, as they did in Ireland.

    EDIT:

My favorite nonce word is Crookeywompus.

For example: Man I crashed my bike and now the handlebars are all crookeywompus.
