David was just interviewed live by the BBC, lol. His niece is a popular blogger, and they asked her to do an interview about the Camp Fire. She said I have a relative who lives, lived, in Paradise, so they asked Dave.

Dave is thrilled that he was interviewed because he has been spending most days online on Facebook, publishing resources, helping people set up GFM, find shelter, clothing etc. so he asked them to share his facebook page.

He will be going down to Sacramento soon to pick up old laptops. His cousin runs a security company, and their employees have laptops installed in their vehicles, so he is going to donate bunch of old windows laptops. So cool.

We found a really good tip last night. We had dinner at an Indian restaurant, and Rina, came and talked to us for a long time. Her entire family all up and down Central California have restaurants, and are donating free food. She donated our dinner too. We found out that Sikh Temples offer free food and shelter all over Central California, so that went on Facebook too. (Shout out to the Royal Indian Cuisine Restaurant, 4.5 stars:

    1545 Placer St
    Redding, CA 96001

The food was SO good, so comforting, will do a Yelp review. I noticed another reviewer mentioned Rina’s kindness too!

Thank you everyone. David has been able to do this because of your donations, able to buy a heavily discounted antique Dell laptop by a very generous person on Craig’s List. He can’t do things on his iPhone, because it is dying, screen shattered, home button dead (using the option of a virtual home button now), can’t put up or take photos etc. so he is pounding away on the laptop, connecting people. I am SO proud of him.

Four huge fire engines in the parking lot of our hotel. We were sitting on a couch waiting for our laundry to finish, when the two loads of firemen came out of the elevator. They looked exhausted, and happy to be catching some R&R away from the war zone.

The air is not so great here either, Even I, the deafie, can hear myself whistling and wheezing. The air quality in Paradise, Chico, down to Sacramento, is classified “extremely hazardous”, the worst category, so I won’t be going with Dave next week to the various animal shelters to hunt for Martha.

The number of animal shelters to search, clear down to David, is immense, so many hurt and lost animals. This is going to take awhile. Dave is also going to stop by the shelter where we adopted Martha, find out the National microchip organization that has our contact info and update our phone number.

I’ve added two more items to the ouch-made-me-cry-list, besides Martha and the photos.

    1. My great grandmother’s oil paintings of the California redwoods by the Russian River, framed in art deco plaster of paris painted to match, hand made by her. Oh man...
    2. A heavy Irish fisherman’s sweater and an Icelandic pattern sweater in heavy wool from Finland, knitted for me by my mother, and sister, both deceased. Ouch.

Post a must-rescue-list by your front door, be ready and packed if you get an evacuation warning, you won’t remember when the brown stuff hits the fan.

Be CALM when finding, and corralling pets. Always have carriers in easily accessible place. Have a list somewhere of ALL the places your pets hide. We missed the cupboard in the kitchen, we were so freaked.

My dearest bro-in-law was weeping on the phone last night, just utterly intimidated by the insurance hoops he has to jump through. David in 45 years, has never heard him cry. The stress is just... unending.

We hear the hotel neighbors having a stress fight next door on the balcony. We’ve had a few ourselves, believe me. Being married thirty years, we get over them quickly, lol. “Reset”, we say, and cast the fight into oblivion.

I know we shouldn’t, and I know I probably have survivor guilt, but we gave some people hundreds out of the fund. So sue me dearhearts, if you can’t forgive me, but conditions are just so wretched.

Reading your posts is so uplifting. Thank you.

    Love, Sierra

Sierra, the fact you are helping others with the money given to help you is just the best possible thing. God bless all of you. Hang in there. We survived Katrina down here.

Yes, thanks for asking. In the first post at the top there is a link ("Sierra's GoFundMe Fire Relief link") to a fundraiser for Sierra and her husband.

Sierra, thanks so much for the update. I've been involved in 3 house fires, one was a rental of mine that the people set intentionally , pieces of crap people they were. Another was a house in the woods I had been going to since I was 5 years old. I watched it burn for 5 hours, 30 firefighters, and then by midnight everyone was gone and I was the only one there standing outside in the dark. I still have flashbacks of all of the sentimental things I had in my house. Cool stuff, autographed stuff, family stuff, pictures, antiques. Just really sucks when you think about it. And the 3rd house was my dads house in Indiana, he was living alone and he didn't make it out. That was 15 years ago. It was a 1600 sq ft house in the hills. The entire house caved into the basement, you couldn't tell what any of it was, the firemen looked for my dad for 3 hours in that small area until they brought the dogs in and found him right away. Tragic in so many ways and yes I miss him. I'd say to this day even after all these years there is still pieces of me that grieve about all of it once and a while but we find a way to move on don't we.

As for the insurance companies, some are good to work with and others not, You just need to stick to your guns, its like a chess game with insurance companies, in each policy the insurance company has already set aside a budget number on what they think the loss is. As with a fire and your things are gone, its almost like an honor system to report what you had so you can get reimbursed or buy it new. I kept stalling my insurance company on my house for the contents settlement because I kept remembering more things that were inside, That's why they try to settle so fast on the contents , because of that reason. As for the house replacements, in my case the insurance company assigned a contractor to put together budget numbers on how much to replace the house, I started challenging there numbers by getting estimates from places like home depot. It was then they wanted to settle with me . Its ok to tell them NO, your not accepting this , time is on your side and then again its not . But in all my cases the longer I took to settle and challenge , the more righteous it was for me in the end. Just some things I have learned and wanted to share with you , you can stand up for yourself and fight, its ok to do that. Keep us updated please, many prayers and hugs , things will get better.

And yes you do what you need to with the funds we all gave , it was donated with compassionate energy by all of us .

I wholeheartedly agree also. In fact I shall add that this is one of the most effective ways of donations reaching those in desperate need from people like Sierra and David.
This is what I did when I was an aid worker during the war in Bosnia. I adopted a respected family in the community that had been through the most horrifying experiences. I helped them get back on their feet with the donations I had received with food, clothing and money. When they were back on their feet and because they had boots on the ground and knew everyone in their surroundings who were also desperate. I continued to help them as they past on the donations.

So thank you all for helping Sierra and for Sierra for passing the help on. It is a system that I found works well.

    Sierra:

Recent article in the Sacramento Bee about locating cats (and others) that survived the fire. Perhaps Martha is here. I just had to put my big black down so I know the empty heart that's left behind.

Sierra - I took a look on the current Butte county fire viewer, and correlated the image with the arrow pointing to WoodLand Drive (Legend), and expanded the view and then looked for ground image views on WoodLand Dr..

This is the legend for the pictures:

Ground based Images 1-5 show below sequentially.

The last house standing (number 6) doesn't have a full ground view.

Possibly there is some hope for Martha. Blessings..

    Picture-1

    Picture-2

    Picture-3

    Picture-4

    Picture-5

Full-sized images are in this Album: https://projectavalon.net/forum4/album.php?albumid=940

Please look closely at Picture-3 - I zoomed in and circled something odd. I don't know what it is.

There are dark colored debris apparently behind. Look at picture 3 above, and note how far the camera is from the "object" in question. Quite far. Go to the Album picture for full size, find the "eyes" if that is what they are.. Very hard to spot at a distance, a fire-inspector on-site would easily miss a stationary kitty. But the "kitty" appears to be looking at the camera, the source of noise it seems, head turned towards the camera flash. I think that is key..

Scale the "eyes" (if that is what they are) to a normal cat's eyes' spacing, that is your dimension reference - remember, this has been taken at quite a distance from the house.. the background is messing with the apparent assumed "face".. (if there is one there)..

and if you remove the "background dark image", then please check, is there a face there, possibly ears? How does a cat sit? What is that pose? Some questions to ask. I asked myself these questions, trying to remain objective.

Scale the eyes and then look at the "paw prints" in the ash on the debris on the "beam", and scale the "tail". Are the objects properly in proportion then? Possibly? Does the tail appear to have hairs burnt?

Possibly paw prints in the ash on the debris? They appear to show smudging as they should. Note the spacing of the "paw" prints. Do they match the spacing of a sitting cat?

Those are our references, remove the background and the bracket going across the body which further complicates the "image". The background and distance are issues.

Possibly a rather burnt curled tail (bottom right part of the object in the circle) ? Possibly an ash splotched kitty. Possibly pareidolia? or Possibly not. I can't tell for sure.

At such a distance it's hard to tell. This image above is NOT corrected, just zoomed in on.

One can do that experimentation on one's own and see. What is there if anything?

I tried some gamma contrast brightness and sharpness adjustment and can see a bent support bracket(?) going over the "object" in question, something(?) hiding behind the support bracket(?) possibly then looking forward towards the camera. The "back" near the tail appears to match the slope and angle of a sitting cat.

The camera flash does what it does with animal eyes, they glow (see below). Just that the background has to be removed from the visual as it is distracting.. Just dunno. The "cat" if there is one there is sitting in-front of a dark piece of debris, in the midst of bent metal.

If I were there I would go back and personally check what this may be. I'm weird when it comes to animals. I'll go out of my way to try to save them. It's just me.

Reference: Looking at a black cat's eyes with a flash, the eye glow, there is a similarity -

If I take OUT some of the background debris covering "kitty(?)" this is what it appears to look like:
