Default Re-discovering the ‘lost’ records of the Newgrange roof-box

Just linking to a fascinating article about how the Neolithic monument at Newgrange, County Meath in Ireland was excavated and recorded. There has been much criticism of the record keeping and claims that the rebuild was not based on good 'scientific grade' archaeological records and processes.

There is also a mystery, why the difference in quality of workmanship between the one massive carved quartz slab (found placed on it's own right in the centre of the monument's above ground portion nicknamed 'the roof box') and the other carved slab.

*There are some convincing arguments positing the Brittish Isles as the original location of Atlantis, read Michael Tsarion's The Irish Origins of Civilization. http://www.irishoriginsofcivilization.com

Tsarion also claims the Battle of the Boyne (also in County Meath) was re-enacting an ancient Egyptian ritual.

    * I remain an openminded fence sitter on the subject

The whole Atlantis thing aside though the article on Newgrange is worth a look though..

One famous battle archeoligist after three weeks of digging without ANY success bodly stated that if there was a battle of the Boyne they must have been throwing sticks and rocks at each other.

The idea of a ritual of some sort is something which hooked me when I first read about the premise. The book is a great attempt to understand the role Ireland plays in this mystery.

The Winter Solstice sunrise event at Newgrange will be streamed live this year, usually there is a lottery for a limited number of places inside the monument to view the Summer/Winter Solstice, but due to the Plandemic this has been cancelled this year.

I will post a link to the livestream when it becomes available but information on the livestream should be available from the Office of Public Works website which is linked below.

The Office of Public Works’ annual Winter Solstice gathering at the Neolithic Passage Tomb of Newgrange on 21 December has been cancelled this year, due to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions.

The hugely significant Solstice Sunrise event is to be live-streamed from within the Chamber.

This brought to mind an old audio interview between Fintan Dunne and Andrew Power, author of 'Ireland: Land of the Pharaohs'. They both believe that the Battle of the Boyne was a ritual, not a physical battle and discuss this early in the interview.

    A Druidic Winter Solstice ritual.

Quote Alban Arthan : The Winter Solstice and Midwinter

This is the festival rite celebrated by the Oak and Feather Grove at Yule, or Midwinter of 2003.

Prior to the ritual, Grove Leader(s) declare the intention of the rite before the Spirit of Place, Ancestors of Place, local Deity. Once acceptance of the rite is given, the ritual may go ahead.

As Oak and Feather Grove includes children, a circle is not often cast. To ensure that the rite is held with peaceful intention the grove, with joined hands, recites the Druid’s vow for as many times as necessary, until grove leaders are satisfied that there is peace.

The Grove gathers around a single candle in the dark.
The Druid Oath is recited by all.

We swear by peace and love to stand,
Heart to heart and hand to hand.
Mark, O spirit, and hear us now,
    Confirming this our sacred vow.

To enable focus and as a signal to ritual mode, the Druid’s prayer is recited by all grove members.

    Grant, O spirit, thy protection
    and in protection, Strength
    And in Strength, Understanding
    And in Understanding, Knowledge
    And in Knowledge, Truth
    And in Truth, Love
And in Love, the Love of all Existence
And in that Love, the Love of Spirit and All Creation

    Calling the quarters:

Different members of the grove call upon each quarter and to Ancestor.

North: Hail the fertile darkness of the North, life and light is reborn.
East: Hail the gentle breath of the East, life and light is reborn.
South: Hail the rekindled spark of the South, life and light is reborn.
West: Hail the trickling drop of the West, life and light is reborn.

    The Ancestors are honoured:

Hail to those who lived before us,
Hail to those who follow us.
All see the turning of the wheel,
The endless cycle that connects us all.
Guide us to the returning light.

Grove leader guides and holds the focus of the ritual:

From the point of greatest darkness, comes the beginning of the light. Is there anything you wish to cast away into the dying darkness?

What new hopes and dreams are waiting to grow? You may wish to name them as you light your candle.
Each member of the Grove lights their candle from the central candle, speaking of their hopes and foreseen challenges for the year ahead (these candles can be relit at the celebrations throughout the year, the developing plans seen in relation to the unfolding year).

With each candle the light grows. When all candles have been lit and intentions acknowledged the candles are put out, returning to the darkness.

With visions of the planted seed, the Grove chants the Awen into the darkness.

Bread and Mead, blessed with prayer prior to the ritual, is given in offering and then shared amongst grove.
Poetry and Song perhaps with feasting and carousing!

With some words of thanks and acknowledgement, the rite is brought to an end. Members of the grove find their own words, allowing them to express their own connection.

I was at Newgrange yester-day afternoon. Anthony Murphy of Mythical Ireland accompanied us on the tour. We observed the simulation of the sunrise on the winter solstice in the chamber.

From a spiritual perspective; being inside this special place was overwhelming. I am a bit claustrophobic so I was the last one of our group to enter, but it wasn't as bad as they were explaining. But being inside a structure that is well over 5,ooo years old was certainly moving in many respects.

Megalithic Art at the entrance stone. These triple spiral designs are exclusive to the site [found no where else in Ireland or the world for that matter...] and can be seen inside the entrance and in the chamber also.

They would not allow photos of the inside. If you ever happen to visit Ireland this might be a special addition to your itinerary.

Definitely a very interesting site, but about the spiral petroglyphs - these are world-wide, and the triple spiral is (as far as I know) not unique to Newgrange.

Fair enough. I only intended to relay what they told us on the tour.

Wasn't trying to correct you by the way, was just pointing out how interesting it is that we find such consistency in symbols, iconography, and often architecture, around the globe, and in seemingly unconnected cultures.

    It's okay.

Archaeology is not something I have studied with any type of diligence and I could have heard them wrong. I am pretty sure she said no where else on the Emerald Isle for sure.

And based on this thread; controversies persist with this particular site.

But the awe of something so old is certainly interesting. Notwithstanding, I appreciate your missive.
