Lots to like in Sweden. The government mediates the social environment because people are shy/reserved. As far as removing symbols that seem benign to us, they might carry negative freight for Swedes. Best visit Sweden before being too critical of their culture and the decisions they make, which are often based on the general consensus.

I get the impression that you are ok with this. The actual role of the government is to provide services to the people, not interpret reality for them, telling them what is ok and what is not...I will never understand how anyone can be comfortable with the government weaving its way through every aspect of life.

I get the impression that you are ok with this. The actual role of the government is to provide services to the people, not interpret reality for them, telling them what is ok and what is not...I will never understand how anyone can be comfortable with the government weaving its way through every aspect of life.

Am I okay with some governments mediating social environment? Depends on the government. I am uncertain about what is going on in Sweden right now. If I was living in Sweden, I would trust my own eyes and ears. Nobody can take that from you. I have to ask what's worse --- a government framing reality for me or Youtube videos.

Libertarian values, could work in a perfect world if people agreed to work collectively for the greater good, when its required. They would be well educated and voluntarily help those in need and have strong social networks.

But Sweden if full of introverts who care very much, are very compassionate but would find it difficult to act on their values. A Danish friend told me the best way to describe Swedes is their own expression, "we are all alone together." It's a strange contradiction but I understand it. I think it's almost genetic. I love rules and regulations that keep things flowing smoothly and everyone's needs accounted for. To me, this is a good thing.

Lovers of Swedish history and runes in particular, can breathe a sigh of relief now that the Swedish government has completed its inquiry into the use of "runes" by nazi and white supremacist groups. The government report finds that there is no reason to ban the use of runes in order to deal with such hate groups, as the existing laws are robust enough for such purposes. This is good news for Swedish society in general, and bad news for the nazis and other white supremacist hate groups who have hijacked certain runes for their own rallying purposes. The report:

An inquiry in Sweden has recommended against bringing in a ban on racist symbols such as the Tyr or Tiwaz rune used by the neo-Nazi Nordic Resistance Movement.

The inquiry, led by Charlotte Brokelind, President of the Göta Court of Appeal, found in its conclusions that existing ethnic hate laws were sufficient, and did not need to be supplemented by additional bans on specific symbols.

"Based on our examination of practice, it is our assessment that the current criminal law regulations on racist and similar symbols are appropriately designed," the report found.

"It follows from this that the provisions on agitation against a population group should not be amended and that a special prohibition against the use of certain symbols should not be introduced."

Sweden's government decided to launch the inquiry on July 5 last year, after activists from the Nordic Resistance Movement NMR) disrupted a series of speeches at the Almedalen political festival on the island of Gotland. It then appointed Brokelind on September 1.

In its report, it said that Swedish courts had over the last 30 years examined 30 different symbols, with those linked to National Socialism and the Klu Klux Klan the most frequent judged to constitute "agitation against a population group".

The NMR group uses the Tyr rune, which takes the form of an upwards pointing arrow and which was worn in Nazi Germany by top officials who had attended the Reichführerschule, an institute which instructed officials on race theory and other aspects of Nazi doctrine.

The rune represents the god Tyr, the ancient Nordic god who gave his name to Tuesday. Samfundet Forn Sed Sverige, which represents believers in and enthusiasts for ancient Nordic religions, last year protested the proposal, saying it would ban an ancient part of Nordic culture.

A high court in Norrland last year ruled that wearing or displaying the rune alone did not contravene ethnic hate laws, as unlike the Swastika, its link to Nazi Germany was "not generally known".

In 1996, the Swedish supreme court ruled the display of a swastika could be considered an incitement to ethnic violence.

Johansson declined to comment on the inquiry's conclusions.

"The inquiry recommends that there be no change to the law," his press secretary Adriana Haxhimustafa told the TT newswire. "It is too early to talk about how the government plans to take this further."

Over the last 20 years, the inquiry found, the main barrier to convicting people over hate laws has been a lack of evidence rather than the lack of detailed proscriptions on specific symbols."


It looks like the Swedish reputation for down to earth approaches is intact. I, for one, look forward to further developments in this nation's continuing curtailing (and banning) of all hate groups.

Now, that is good news.

They got a lot of publicity and backlash from normal people all over the world, so I'm not surprised they decided against the ban.... for now. They'll bring it back up later, because these people are relentless in their anti-Western hatred and racism.

Remember that they've already melted down Iron Age Viking artifacts, thanks to a Muslim being appointed to oversee Sweden's cultural heritage. Internationalists won't relent with this genocidal nonsense until they are permanently out of power. It is unfortunately a zero sum game. For them, white culture is inherently evil and everything our ancestors ever did amounts to a crime and literal Nazism.

I guess it hardly matters that historical Vikings were not actually bloodthirsty savages, and that that was Roman propaganda, either. Roman Britons even complained that their women were leaving for Vikings because the Vikings were more cleanly and even combed their hair. Quite the opposite view that mainstream history tries to present of dirty heathen killers. But they all violated Shariah Law and I suppose that's the real problem nowadays.
