    Moonwalk

    Quote Wikipedia

The moonwalk is a dance move in which the dancer moves backwards while seemingly walking forwards.

Formerly known as the "backslide", the moonwalk is a popping move. It became popular around the world following Michael Jackson's moonwalk during the performance of "Billie Jean" on Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever, which was broadcast on May 16, 1983.

Jackson has been credited as renaming the "backslide" to the moonwalk and it became his signature move.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moonwalk_(dance)#1970s
Many precedents and variations abound by many artists going back to the 30's but it was Jeffrey Daniels of Shalamar who inspired Michael Jackson to want to master the technique after having seen him perform it, which he had been doing throughout the 70's.

Here's Jeffrey Daniels performing it in 1982 in the UK.

    Shalamar great group btw.

Think disco dancing began in the 70s? Or breakdancing in the 80s? Think again!

Here is a scene from one of my favourite ballets - Spartacus. Most of the ballet is concerned with gladiators and fighting, with most dancing done by male dancers.

This scene is a pas de deux: it’s the Adagio of Spartacus and Phrygia, danced here by Carlos Acosta and Nina Kaptsova.

    Hi Cara, that's so cool!

I don't dance myself and don't care to, but I LOVE watching other's dance!
I'm very impressed with the amount of control dancers seem to have over their body, and that's what's most magical to me. It's like the Police song - "Every little thing she does is magic"

Bollywood movies have a lot of dancing in them, and I just LOVE it. Makes me want to learn Hindi

    Riverdance

Orchestral dance piece performed by traditional Irish dancers.

    Celtic Choir Anuna: 'Cloudsong'

    Lead dancers:
    Jean Butler
    Michael Flatley

    Cloudsong
Anuna begin the piece by evoking the spirit of the riverwoman and ushering her onto the land.

    Dance of the Riverwoman
Jean Butler dances in the soft-shoe style, to reflect the fluid nature of the Riverwoman's being and to parallel the river's movement, as it spreads throughout the land.

    Earthrise
The Riverwoman has woken the earth from its barren sleep. Michael Flatley, symbolising the land through energetic and vital movement, displays his mastery of hard-shoe tap dancing.

    Riverdance
Now the forces of earth and water come together, tentatively at first. With the return of the drums, it becomes a rousing jig, and with the orchestra in full flight. Michael Flatley and Jean Butler lead a group of twenty four Irish Traditional dancers to a spectacular climax.

    Shortened version without choir.

    The Tango Lesson

Quote The Tango Lesson (Spanish: La lección de tango) is a 1997 drama film written and directed by Sally Potter. It is a semi-autobiographical film starring Potter and Pablo Verón, about Argentinian Tango.[1]

The film, a co-production of Argentina, France, Germany, Netherlands and the United Kingdom, was produced by Christopher Sheppard in Britain and Oscar Kramer in Argentina, and was shot mostly in black and white in Paris and Buenos Aires. The soundtrack includes original recordings of Carlos Gardel's Mi Buenos Aires querido and Ástor Piazzolla's Libertango, two of the most iconic tangos in the history of the genre. It also includes an original song written and sung by Potter.

    Dancing under water...... fascinating.

This dance is performed and directed by deep sea diver and underwater filmmaker Julie Gautier. The work follows Gautier through several uninterrupted minutes of underwater choreography, gracefully performed in the world’s deepest pool near Venice, Italy.

Julie holds her breath as she uses controlled movements to twist and glide through the calm water, eventually rising up to the surface with the release of one giant air bubble.

The piece is titled AMA after the Japanese word for “woman of the sea,” which is also the name for Japan’s traditional shell collectors. The film is a metaphoric nod to these united women, while also representing the relationship that connects women from all over the world.
“For me, this film is a way to say: you are not alone,” said Gautier, “open yourself to others, talk about your sufferings and your joys.”
