Loved Marcelo 's comments....." Strong Europe means creating a bridge with strong ties to Britain post Brexit' ... "We have NATO, and neighbors we can call allies ....EU Army. Is not necessary nor an option..." " we need to contribute more to our mutual defense"....

Green Goblin was doing this in Spider-man years ago! If the french did a full weeks work like everyone else and stopped protesting they'd be able to keep up!

Nice to see the British contingent taking part ... or it would have been nice even if it was only our parting shot.

I saw a slightly different video clip of this “flying soldier” on an RT_com tweet:

Quote #French inventor has demonstrated his turbine engine-powered #hoverboard for #Macron and #EU leaders by flying above the Champs-Elysees in #Paris –armed with a rifle– as part of the Bastille Day celebrations https://t.co/d6Vm8jHTsH
This one is a little longer in duration and seems more menacing to me. My response was not to be impressed or otherwise with the technology but to be alarmed at the messaging.

First, there is the pointing of the gun downwards at the crowd.

Then there is the problem that this type of “flying soldier” would be an excellent target for any opposing military and therefore not effective in this way. So, what is the purpose? It seems such a flying “soldier” would only really be effective against civilians on the ground.

Given these, I can only see this as a not-so-subtle message to ordinary French people and yellow vest protestors in particular that their protests and disobedience will be opposed with violence.

Machine gun equipped drones were first displayed publicly, by curious and technologically capable gun fanatics, about what...5 years ago? 7 years ago? gun platform quadcopters are smaller, cheaper, etc. No need to fly a soldier, unless it is for incursion.

the film industry uses them extensively, these days. Many of the film production companies (subcontracted entities for the given film) actually make their own. There are websites where you can basically build your own flying platform, via buying al the parts, software, hardware, all of it.

the parts and system are so well developed these days, that if I had lets say $5k to spend, I could have gone through most of the design and parts buying -most of it by the end of one day. then 3d print the custom parts with a $500 common 3d plastics printer.

I can easily buy pre-made platforms (usually 8 legged octo-copters) that can loft 20 plus pounds or 10 plus kilos. Then adapt a weapon to a heavy duty stabilized camera mount. re the drone buying website (there are many) just push the quantity to be purchased from 1 to 20, and press click, and pay. Hovering gun platforms are essentially - mainstream. The AI is all that remains to be integrated and that is essentially, already here.

One flying soldier, or 20+ quadcopter flying gun platforms, for far less cost for the platforms - probably less than half the cost.

Which is more likely to be made and used by a military?

$6k street price, centimeter level accuracy in positioning, pairing, tripling, etc for flocked or patterned flights, 5km range, 15kg payload max, 35-15 minute flight time.

So, back to the subject at hand, why show a flying soldier? More human, somehow? After all, it is a 200lb payload.

Yes Carmody, gun toting drone tech has been around for ages now and is far more effective/dangerous.

The flying troop carrier is all for show.
Look we have such sophisticated armies, we are the boss.

They been watching to much 'He-Man' and the masters of the universe cartoons.

Add: the pilot would be flying target practice.

    All pomp and power play.
