    Default Dark Music

    ~~~~
    Music can have a profound impact on the human psyche and emotions, but can one song lead to more than a hundred suicide deaths?
    Gloomy Sunday
    The original Gloomy Sunday, written in 1932 by Rezső Seress, was known as the Hungarian Suicide Song and blamed for more suicides than any other song in history.
    ADD
    The number of suicides in those days were more likely due to other factors such as famine and poverty, as well as the rise of Nazi Germany's influence in Europe.
    No studies have drawn a clear link between the song and suicide.
    Lyrics (Literal Translation)
    "On a sad Sunday with a hundred white flowers
    I was waiting for you, my dear, with a church prayer
    That dream-chasing Sunday morning
    The chariot of my sadness returned without you.
    Ever since then, Sundays are always sad
    Tears are my drink, and sorrow is my bread.
    Sad Sunday.
    Last Sunday, my dear, please come along,
    There will even be priest, coffin, catafalque, hearse-cloth.
    Even then flowers will be awaiting you, flowers and coffin.
    Under blossoming (flowering in Hungarian) trees
    My journey shall be the last.
    My eyes will be open, so that I can see you one more time
    Do not be afraid of my eyes as I am blessing you even in my death.
    Last Sunday."
    ~~~~

    In 1936 the song was released in English in with revised lyrics by Ray M. Lewis. This version clearly refers to suicide.

    "Gloomy is Sunday, with shadows I spend it all
    My heart and I have decided to end it all
    Soon there’ll be candles and prayers that are sad I know
    Let them not weep let them know that I’m glad to go"

    Some English versions like the one below, added the following verse:

    "Dreaming, I was only dreaming
    I wake and I find you asleep
    In the deep of my heart, dear
    Darling I hope
    That my dream never haunted you
    My heart is tellin' you
    How much I wanted you

    Gloomy Sunday"

    Very Dark indeed. The latter video you posted was just as dark as the first.
    I thought this is where we post Dark Music, as one of my favorite bands Black Sabbath came to mind.

    I came across this video some time ago. But let me be clear, I won't look at it again. I only copied the link. This gave me instant nightmares.

    If anyone does listen to it and gets problems afterwards, please let me know.

    I believe "Gloomy Sunday" was the song played in Schindler's List, purposefully, which induced a German officer to commit suicide. It was in the book. I'm not sure about the movie.

    That is what the Black Sabbath theme song is based on.

    Having seen them do it live, it is entirely likely that the third note is the heaviest sound in existence.

    I read in the replies that the language is romanian (backwards).

    (backward) auov uad auon acnurop ias iicinecu ertac iulunmod asiz.
    (normal) voua den noua porunca sai ucenicii catre domnului zisa.
    (english) your new commandment of the disciples to the Lord.

    It's a "Romanian Orthodox Divine Liturgy recorded in a church in Baia Mare, Romania, played backward".
    On the Romanian part, the order of the words should also be reversed for it to make sense.....?? Why? Satanism is inversion, isn't it?

    Bowie, Black Star.

    The artwork for this album was designed by Jonathan Barnbrook, who said of this particular role: "Blackstar is a dark album about dark times. I hope in what I’ve done there’s something that resonated with the darkness of the music in some way."

    Blackstar was released on David Bowie's 69th birthday, 8 Januari 2016.
    Two days after the release of this album, David died, turning Blackstar into his swan song.

    Falco's Out Of The Dark sounds like a prelude to suicide to me.
    Falco died in a car accident, but I can't help but feel like he might have ended his own life.

    English Translation:

    Out Of The Dark by Falco (aka Johann Hölzel)

    I can't get enough of you
    You're in every breath
    Everything revolves around you
    Why me of all people

    Count the hours, the seconds
    But time seems to stand still
    Oppressed myself, twisted (myself)
    Let me go

    What more do you want
    Do you want to count my days
    Why do you have to
    Torment me with my longing

    Your hell burns inside of me
    You're my elixir to survive
    I am torn
    When will you kiss my wounds

    Do you hear the hour which says to you
    I give up and close my eyes
    Hörst du die stunde, die dir sagt
    I give up and you waste your tears

    I am ready since it's time
    For our pact for eternity
    You're already there, so close
    I can feel you
    Let myself be seduced, let myself be carried off
    Tonight for the last time
    Devoted to your power/control
    Give me your hand
    My life, tell me the price
    I give you yesterday, today and tomorrow
    Then it's a full circle, no way back
    The white light comes closer, step by step
    Want to be enacted

    Do I have to die
    In order to live

    Into the light
    Out of the dark
    Into the light
    To the night

    I think there was a period , during the climate of occult fear , that loads of heavy rock musicians were accused, and even sued for songs that ( very much supposedly) encouraged people to commit suicide. Ozzy Osbourne - Suicide Solution , is one song that comes to mind. It's hysteria though , in this instance, as the song is about alcoholism being equal to slowly committing suicide.
