Default Wow 2,200 miles wide Black Spot just appeared on Jupiter

(CNN) -- A NASA space mission found a large black spot on Jupiter, and it isn't what you think.

Could it be a heretofore unseen phenomenon, or someone's idea of a prank on the scientists?

Neither is true, according to NASA.

    It's a moon shadow.
The shadow is from Jupiter's volcanically active moon, lo, eclipsing the sun, just like our moon does on Earth. NASA said the spot measured 2,200 miles wide — roughly the distance between New York City and Las Vegas, Nevada.

Jupiter, the largest planet in the Milky Way, has several moons that frequently eclipse the sun because of Jupiter's size and the fact that the planet is not "highly tilted" compared to its orbit, according to NASA.

The photo was taken by NASA's solar-powered spacecraft Juno on September 11 during its 22nd full orbit of Jupiter. The spacecraft has been in use since 2011 and entered its initial 53-day orbit around Jupiter on July 4, 2016.

Maybe it is a (symbolic) Sign that we have very soon Full Disclosure?

Many time-travel theories use certain events portrayed in movies on purpose?
Movie-script writers are contacted by people from the future somehow.

It is unlikely that Jupiter is the largest planet in the milky way galaxy, as said in the OP. Its the largest visible planet in our solar system. There is speculation that there's another planet at the far side of the kyper belt of our solar system, but until they spot it, and estimate its size, jupiter is the biggest in sol's system.

Jupiter, the largest planet in the Milky Way,
oOopss .. largest planet in the Solar System

this could be said if all planet sizes in Miky Way are knowed

but it was worth the intention

Before I edit the title of the thread could someone please help with the 2,200 wide bit. Is that kilometers, miles, feet, inches?

    Thanks.

It’s miles . From the article quoted in the OP:

Here's a little on Io from a quick internet search

    *******

Io is the innermost of the four Galilean moons of the planet Jupiter.

It is the fourth-largest moon in the solar system, has the highest density of all of them, and has the least amount of water molecules of any known astronomical object in the Solar System. Wikipedia

    View on Maps: google.com/maps/space/io
    Radius: 1,821.6 km
    Orbital period: 42 hours
    Surface area: 41910000 km2 (0.082 Earths)
Mean orbit radius: 421700 km (0.002819 AU)

And here is a quick calculation from kilometres to miles: RapidTables.com

    Name: Capture_km_to_mi.JPG
Views: 140
Size: 43.2 KB

    ******

So, is it an eclipse of Io? The maths may suggest not, but, of course shadows can lengthen and shorten due to an object's relative position and exposure to light. Granted, it's pretty darn close though, diametrically. Perhaps it is.

Can anyone - pardoning the pun! - shed any more light on this?

    Thanks for the OP
