When I was going through a very difficult time and more specifically, I was being tortured with shingles, out of desperation and pain I called out "Angels, please help and protect me."

A day or two later my best friend came over, completely out of the blue, and said "I keep dreaming of angels telling me to tell you they are watching over you. I kept ignoring them until one kind of menacing angel admonished me in a stern way to tell you the same thing."

That is when she came over and gave me the message. She had no way of knowing I had called out to them.
"The only true currency in this bankrupt world is what we share with someone when we are uncool." From the movie "Almost Famous""l "Let yourself stand cool and composed before a million universes." Walt Whitman

I once discussed this whole issue in depth with a highly experienced spiritual counselor, one of the very very best. I shared some of the interesting things that had happened to me, including quite a number of 'miraculous' escapes* from death or injury.

    I shouldn't actually be alive now... :)

She was adamant. "You're belittling and diminishing your own power", she said. "It wasn't any external help. YOU did all that. YOU did it, yourself."

I later became convinced she was correct.

@Bill, I believe that we all have powers that we mostly ignore because we have been taught from an early age that we are powerless. I intend to write more about this. Perhaps an angel can spur your higher self to use your own powers to protect you or to solve your problems. Just a thought. My dowsing just said "Yes."

But why should an 'angel' have more power or ability than you or I do?

I'm just an 'angel' in a human body right now. (And so is everyone reading this thread! )

When I was young (about seven) I had the run of downtown St Louis. I was coming home from a Tarzan movie with a friend. It was late and I was tired. I stepped out in front of a bus and surely would have been hit. But a policeman grabbed me and pulled me back to the curb. I tried to thank him, but he had disappeared into thin air. When I dowsed this years later, I discovered that the policeman was an angel.

I will tell you a similar story that took place in the Grand Canyon years later.

Yes, you did all that from the larger perspective because you are god and the angels and the power. Many of us like to ask our higher selves or our guides or angels but if you believe in yourself and know who you are, that can be bypassed. I like to do both. Things often work out perfectly for me because I always believe they will, but often I will ask god or jesus or angels to help.

About 3 weeks ago I got a call at 10pm from my husband who had been in the veteran's hospital for 3 weeks. He said, "come get me, I can't stand another day here!" So I drove up there (2 hours) to break him out of the hospital. LOL... This has happened before and it's always very funny. So we're driving home starting at about 1am in the middle of the Appalachian mountains. About a half hour from home we went over a big bump or hole in the road and it felt like something might have gotten loose under the car. I had a vision of this 72 year old woman changing a tire at 2:30am in the middle of nowhere. I thought it might be good to ask for some help just in case so I asked god to please let us get home without any problems.

Sure enough we got home at 3am, pulled into the carport and my son came out to help me get my husband into the house. He said "Mom, your front tire is completely flat!". Yep, it was totally flat and pretty well trashed. It seems like we would have felt a flat tire but there was no indication that we were driving on a flat tire. So I said "Thank You!" to god, and laughed. These amazing things happen all the time. My husband did go back to the hospital and after another 3 weeks he is supposedly coming home tomorrow.

A possible problem I can see in bypassing asking angels, guides or god for help, is that humans are prone to being very egotistical. Knowing how much power you truly have would probably inflate most people's egos to the point where they would be obnoxiously self important. It seems like gratitude and love might take a back seat for many who believe they are the source of all power.

@Bill, Somehow I lost my posted response without any error message.

Anyway, here it is again. You are limited by your beliefs. Angels are not limited. As you gradually go through the process of removing those beliefs, you learn to do more, but the removal of limiting beliefs is like peeling layers of an onion one at a time. It can take a lifetime.

@Bill, It is true that I believe my own powers are limited by my beliefs. [I can get twisted up in this language.] :-). You know that I test my beliefs frequently, and this one has passed the testing. I have seen my abilities improve as I have removed limiting beliefs. The problems with beliefs is that many are invisible and must be searched out. This process of searching my mind is very difficult. Well, It is for me. This is part of the "Know thyself" goal.

@ Nenuphar, Ha! I lived in Las Vegas for five years and made a study of the casinos. They place slot machines near the door that are called 'easy'. Then the player is lured further in to play machine that will infrequently pay out any, but when they do they pay larger amounts. The unwary player ends up playing all of his initial winnings and more. You, Nenuphar, beat the system by walking out the door with your winnings. But the system works very well over all.

When I was about five or six, I was swimming along the shore of Lake Superior near Houghton, Michigan. I drowned. My step father pulled me out and applied what he had learned of an antiquated resuscitation method. Papa rolled me over a log to remove the water and then did the chest compressions by repeatedly stretching my arms out. It worked. I wish that I had a memory of my out-of-body experience, but no. I don't remember the actual drowning either. I only remember lying on the wet ground and being told what happened.

One thing remains to this day. I am not afraid of dying. I am rather casual about danger. Just last month I failed to look and stepped out in front of a moving bus. The bus stopped in time. (No. This was not in Ecuador.) I thanked my angels and moved on. This sort of thing happens to me a lot. I keep my angels busy. Will I make it through my 76th year?

    What about you?

In the 1960s, I was a volunteer fireman for a small community. One time when I was entering a burning house with the fire hose wetting the floor ahead, the nozzle came apart from the hose. I was holding the nozzle and pushing forward very hard to counteract the force of the water jet. As you might expect, I fell forward into the fire. Fortunately, I protective gear I was wearing did protect me from any serious burns, and my partner pulled me out. This event was probably not life-threatening, but I could have gone through a lot of pain.

    One more for my angels.

When my house was struck by lightning in 2009, Linda and I were watching television. Within about ten minutes four fire trucks had arrived, but before the fire was completely out some 80% of our house was only ashes. I briefly joined the crew helping carry a hose up the stairs. Then they told me to get out because I was not wearing any protective gear. That brought back the memory of my earlier mishap. I have walked into many fires - sometimes with only a rake. I also will not forget when I was ten being pulled out of a burning third floor window by a fireman on a ladder.

In 1966, I was taking flying lessons in a Chicago suburb - doing a few hours of solo that day. After clearing my take-off (no traffic control here) I had eased the Piper Colt up to about 60 knots when I noticed a Piper Cherokee entering my runway. I had earlier seen him stopped before the runway. Then the pilot panicked and stopped dead halfway across my runway. My plane's wing was just about the hight of his head. I won't forget the look on his face. The Colt can take off at 65 knots, but we, I, would have collided before my reaching that speed. I was going too fast to turn off the runway. I could feel that the plane was light, so I kept full throttle and pushed the ailerons ever so so slightly to lift my starboard wing over the intruding plane and then back down. If the Colt had been going any slower and heavier, my aileron peddling would have run me off the runway. (The same peddles for the ailerons also turn the nose wheel.) As it was, I was able reach 65 knots and fly away. Neither one of us filed a report. This was life-threatening, and I really wasn't that practiced a flyer for that maneuver.

One more save by my angels. I nearly missed flying with my angels!

I'm just an 'angel' in a human body right now. (And so is everyone reading this thread! )
That's an interesting perspective, Bill. How do you back it up?

Well, some of this is all about what each of us might consider an 'angel' to be.

My view, which is very clear to me, is that we're talking about non-physical spiritual beings. But then we're non-physical spiritual beings ourselves — and we just happen to be 'driving' physical bodies in the physical universe. (And that can be a lot of fun. It's like a different kind of playground.)

So for me, the only difference between an 'angel' and you or me is that we have physical bodies right now, but an 'angel' doesn't. And the other aspect to all this is that 'angels' are usually bestowed with great benevolence. But then, many humans (though not all!) are like that, too.

My conclusion? There's not always a lot of difference. In my personal view, ascribing miraculous events solely to angels is rather like denying our own power.

Why would we do that?? Discuss!
