Boris Johnson faces revolt over forcing through Covid measures

    https://uk.yahoo.com/news/boris-john...200024062.html

Boris Johnson is facing a massive parliamentary revolt over the way he is imposing Covid-19 restrictions on the British people without first consulting MPs – amid new signs that confidence in his leadership is collapsing in the Conservative party and across the country.

An extraordinary cross-party backlash against Johnson’s “rule by diktat” from Downing Street was taking shape on Saturday – ahead of a key vote on Wednesday – as a new poll by Opinium for the Observer showed Labour has overtaken the Tories for the first time since Keir Starmer became leader in April.

The survey, which will sow more doubts among Conservative MPs about Johnson and his teams in No 10 and the cabinet, puts Labour on 42%, three points ahead – a rise of three points in a fortnight – with Johnson’s party dropping to 39% (down three).

Starmer has also pulled well ahead when voters are asked who would make the best prime minister, with 36% choosing the Labour leader (up four points), and 32% preferring Johnson.

At the end of March, after the full lockdown was imposed, the Conservatives were powering ahead on 54%, 26 points clear of Labour.

    default

But Johnson is now under intense pressure to beat yet another retreat, this time over how coronavirus rules are agreed and imposed, when, on Wednesday, ministers seek a six-month extension to special powers that allow them to act unilaterally over Covid-19.

In a sign of Tory unrest over both the extent of restrictions to counter a second wave of Covid-19 and the way parliament is being bypassed, the chair of the backbench 1922 committee, Graham Brady, is winning wider support for an amendment calling for MPs to be allowed to debate and vote upon any new measures before they are implemented.

Labour, the Scottish National party and the Liberal Democrats indicated they were seriously considering joining dozens of Tory rebels to back the Brady amendment and rein in Johnson and No 10.

For opposition parties to unite behind an amendment put down by a leading Tory backbencher would be highly unusual. But the revolt reflects mounting anger at the way Johnson and his chief adviser, Dominic Cummings, ignore parliament – a feeling that has festered since parliament was prorogued in order to get Johnson’s Brexit deal through the Commons last year.

If all the opposition parties support Brady, he would need 43 Tories to defeat the government. At the last count he had 46 on board.

It is believed Downing Street, which has ordered Tory whips to take soundings among MPs this weekend, is ready, initially, to order a partial climbdown by agreeing to bring forward a debate on the already introduced “rule of six” from early next month to this week.

But Brady made clear on Saturday evening that this would not be enough and that he will continue to demand debates and votes in parliament in advance of all emergency measures, such as those announced last week which included ordering pubs and restaurants to close at 10pm.

Brady told the Observer: “It is essential that the House of Commons should have the opportunity to debate and vote on emergency measures before they come into force.”

Another senior Tory, the former cabinet minister Damian Green, who is backing Brady, added: “The principle of parliament having a say on important decisions that affect the lives of everyone in the country is a hugely important one that we should hold to very tightly.”

The extent to which faith in Johnson is ebbing away is matched by growing admiration for the chancellor, Rishi Sunak, increasingly seen on the Tory backbenchers as more of a unifying figure for the post-Brexit era, and a potential successor to Johnson.

Sunak, who on Thursday announced measures aimed at saving jobs as a second Covid-19 wave gathers force, has been conducting charm offensives among backbenchers and newspaper editors in recent weeks. He will address the 1922 committee again next month, sources said.

Meanwhile it has emerged that senior Tory MPs on the powerful liaison committee have drawn up a draft letter to Johnson asking that he considers using the army more extensively in the fight against coronavirus – as concerns grow about shortages in testing capacity and manpower.

Related: 'Don’t bake in a tent': Boris Johnson's painful week as a punchline

Tobias Ellwood, chair of the defence select committee, said: “It is paramount that what our armed forces bring to the table is better appreciated during these times of enduring crisis. The Ministry of Defence is the only department trained in strategic planning, crisis management and command and communications. These are the precise skills the government needs to tackle this pandemic. There is frustration both in parliament and the MoD that they are largely confined to barracks.”

The Opinium poll also found that Starmer has improved perceptions of the Labour party since becoming leader. Now 40% of voters, up from 36% in July, think the party is ready to form the next government, while 42%, down from 47%, think it is not.

COVID-19: 'No evidence of second wave', says govt critic

Prof Carl Heneghan, of the University of Oxford, has been critical of lockdown and government policies to counter the coronavirus.

He says the virus is seasonal and there is no evidence to suggest a second wave yet.

But he also recommends going into lockdown after Christmas rather than take drastic action too soon.

Peter Hitchens: Cabinet ministers 'seem to have passed an exam in stupidity.'

Columnist Peter Hitchens has joined Mike Graham once again for his weekly discussion on the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, and whether the Government measures continue to suppress the nation or if they have moved the direction of traffic in the right way.

Speaking on talkRADIO, Mr Hitchens discussed the idea of England becoming a police state, how anyone can become a minister if they have "passed an exam in stupidity" and how "everything is spoilt" by "face muzzles."

good article by Paul Craig Roberts on Covid and election deception. https://www.paulcraigroberts.org/202...vid-deception/

    from the article/
One reason we were intentionally deceived by public health authorities, and continue to be deceived by them, is to create a market for a Covid vaccination. There are billions of dollars of profits in this, and Big Pharma wants them. The financial connections between public health authorities and Big Pharma means that WHO, NIH, and CDC also desire mass vaccinations.

A third reason for the intentional misrepresentation of the Covid threat is to build the growing police state on more intrusions into private life. The public health threat is used to mandate unconstitutional intrusions that close private businesses or force them to operate at 50 percent capacity, thus driving them into bankruptcy and destroying the lifework of people in the name of public health.

The CDC concludes that the initial fatality rates were overestimated. If you have the virus, the CDC reports the survival rate by age group. As I read the report, the percentages are all Covid deaths including those with an average of 2.6 comorbidities.

    Age Group Probability of Survival

    0-19: 99.997%
    20-49: 99.98%
    50-69: 99.5%
    70+: 94.6%

Right. But do not forget to ask yourself the right questions. The “pandemic” did not start in the UK but in Wuhan, China , we all know about it and following the news since January, at least.

It’s them who built number of makeshift hospitals in few days or weeks with capacity of 30 thousands beds.

How uncanny. How they were not prepared. Militarily organized.

No one else was the same ready but the WHO following China’s lead declared global pandemic.
The US has just about opted out of the equation or tried to but ouch it was too late.

Now Wuhan has reached about 90 thousand reported cases in month though there may have been more cases and few thousand people died before the outbreak subsided.
They cross tested Wuhan population since and cases are reported in very small and isolated numbers.

Covid 19 is not natural or common virus “we all sometimes have”. Coronavirus infections happen rarely, mostly from animal to human,
the origins of SARS itself are in a mist.

But it’s possible that the virus got out of its previous habituate elsewhere and attacked humans.

However, no biologist in the world as of now will certify that the virus is harmless in long run or to what type of humans.

If someone go on disclaiming “germ theory” just because it’s never been part of your science curriculum, the internet offers wonderful options to get the information you may have missed otherwise join the “flat earth theory”.

The old religious and philosophical dogma about being the natural highest and strongest and best adapted intelligence on this planet perhaps in whole universe will always smell fish.

You may have not seen infections and all kinds of parasitic diseases in your own eyes and the medical industry is struggling with how many people die these days from post surgery infections, MRSA and else with no antibiotics working.
The number of which are seldom admitted.

The state of our hospitals is also miserable, with some doctors more than nurses being careless about hygiene and their instruments.

Post surgery care is often plainly insufficient with patients being discharged to home care early often with opened wounds.

The number of cancer patients has increased last years with viral infections contributing to DNA damage, in some cases.

People are payed to work and “look good” rather than “feel good” and claim they are healthy else they would loose their status and their jobs while most of them are struggling with self health care on the inside anytime after 40.

Most of our generation who had seen “the previous” also refuse to do anything with medical system that probes and treats people like animals while subduing their pain with heavy tranquliizers.

We prefer not to eat chemicals or even try since we know they use even healthy people as guinea pigs.

Back to the topic, if you think you don’t want vaccination you don’t want to be inoculated with Covid 19 either.
What sense would that make ?

It’s not a flu virus - study some virology- and there isn’t any guarantee for developing immunity against it, i disbelieve vaccine will be of any big help either.

Why on Earth would you not resist to get infected by the new Chine virus ?

I know it’s absurd but it’s detectable so also avoidable. It’s not about “magic thinking”.

People - I had some friends of that kind- who want to bring us back to “magic thinking” but don’t have solid science foundation could also bring this world on the brink of magic catastrophe
Most of them do end up in that remote house with 9 cats where they always wanted to be ..
