Thank you! And I read an article later where his son defended him so beautifully. I don't think he has a vicious bone in his body.

Bodhicee, do you have "the festival of Alans"? That is a classic!

    Hi Meryl

Yes I wouldn't associate the word 'vicious' with any part of Leunig! Everything about him suggests gentleness and humility; i think that is why he is so astute, and loved.

I've not heard of the 'Festival of Alans' - can you say more? Sounds wonderful, very off the wall!

I did not know of Leunig's work before this thread and just love him like he is my brother. It's like we grew up together and saw the world in just that particularly same deliciously skewed POV. It is like feeling strong because we always had one another to laugh about the absurdity of what we saw. The way we knew an edge between laughter and tears and a way out kept us sane. The fact that we will together never lose our way through the thickets is so comforting. Thanks !

And I'm so glad you've found your long lost friend, Leunig.... He is a trusty companion to many of us I think but it's always a very special moment to make the discovery again or, rather, to remember....

    Thanks again...

Here in Australia tomorrow will be "Anzac Day", a much venerated occasion supposedly paying tribute initially to the 'brave', poor New Zealander and Aussie soldiers sent to their death by inept Brit commanders WW1, Gallipoli, Turkey and now more recently war veterans in general.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anzac_Day

Over recent years, as more and more aging veterans pass away, the Australian Government has spent much cash manufacturing glamorous, heroic, big production Anzac Day commemorations, complete with live feeds from Turkey itself.

My cynical mind tells me this is all for the purpose of ensuring enough youth of today continue to enlist, possibly to serve as fodder for the insatiable maw of war.
Lured in by a genuine, heroic desire to be of service and protect what's loved these young peoples' beautiful spirit is soiled and sundered in the face of the atrocity of having to kill to protect.

It's an impossible dilemma.. How to have no war in this world and yet protect from another's avaricious intent?
