    APPEAL
    MAY 7, 2020

APPEAL FOR THE CHURCH AND THE WORLD
to Catholics and all people of good will

    Veritas liberabit vos.
    Jn 8:32

In this time of great crisis, we Pastors of the Catholic Church, by virtue of our mandate, consider it our sacred duty to make an Appeal to our Brothers in the Episcopate, to the Clergy, to Religious, to the holy People of God and to all men and women of good will. This Appeal has also been undersigned by intellectuals, doctors, lawyers, journalists and professionals who agree with its content, and may be undersigned by those who wish to make it their own.

The facts have shown that, under the pretext of the Covid-19 epidemic, the inalienable rights of citizens have in many cases been violated and their fundamental freedoms, including the exercise of freedom of worship, expression and movement, have been disproportionately and unjustifiably restricted. Public health must not, and cannot, become an alibi for infringing on the rights of millions of people around the world, let alone for depriving the civil authority of its duty to act wisely for the common good. This is particularly true as growing doubts emerge from several quarters about the actual contagiousness, danger and resistance of the virus. Many authoritative voices in the world of science and medicine confirm that the media’s alarmism about Covid-19 appears to be absolutely unjustified.

We have reason to believe, on the basis of official data on the incidence of the epidemic as related to the number of deaths, that there are powers interested in creating panic among the world’s population with the sole aim of permanently imposing unacceptable forms of restriction on freedoms, of controlling people and of tracking their movements. The imposition of these illiberal measures is a disturbing prelude to the realization of a world government beyond all control.

We also believe that in some situations the containment measures that were adopted, including the closure of shops and businesses, have precipitated a crisis that has brought down entire sectors of the economy. This encourages interference by foreign powers and has serious social and political repercussions. Those with governmental responsibility must stop these forms of social engineering, by taking measures to protect their citizens whom they represent, and in whose interests they have a serious obligation to act. Likewise, let them help the family, the cell of society, by not unreasonably penalizing the weak and elderly, forcing them into a painful separation from their loved ones. The criminalization of personal and social relationships must likewise be judged as an unacceptable part of the plan of those who advocate isolating individuals in order to better manipulate and control them.

We ask the scientific community to be vigilant, so that cures for Covid-19 are offered in honesty for the common good. Every effort must be made to ensure that shady business interests do not influence the choices made by government leaders and international bodies. It is unreasonable to penalize those remedies that have proved to be effective, and are often inexpensive, just because one wishes to give priority to treatments or vaccines that are not as good, but which guarantee pharmaceutical companies far greater profits, and exacerbate public health expenditures. Let us also remember, as Pastors, that for Catholics it is morally unacceptable to develop or use vaccines derived from material from aborted fetuses.

We also ask government leaders to ensure that forms of control over people, whether through tracking systems or any other form of location-finding, are rigorously avoided. The fight against Covid-19, however serious, must not be the pretext for supporting the hidden intentions of supranational bodies that have very strong commercial and political interests in this plan. In particular, citizens must be given the opportunity to refuse these restrictions on personal freedom, without any penalty whatsoever being imposed on those who do not wish to use vaccines, contact tracking or any other similar tool. Let us also consider the blatant contradiction of those who pursue policies of drastic population control and at the same time present themselves as the savior of humanity, without any political or social legitimacy. Finally, the political responsibility of those who represent the people can in no way be left to “experts” who can indeed claim a kind of immunity from prosecution, which is disturbing to say the least.

We strongly urge those in the media to commit themselves to providing accurate information and not penalizing dissent by resorting to forms of censorship, as is happening widely on social media, in the press and on television. Providing accurate information requires that room be given to voices that are not aligned with a single way of thinking. This allows citizens to consciously assess the facts, without being heavily influenced by partisan interventions. A democratic and honest debate is the best antidote to the risk of imposing subtle forms of dictatorship, presumably worse than those our society has seen rise and fall in the recent past.

Finally, as Pastors responsible for the flock of Christ, let us remember that the Church firmly asserts her autonomy to govern, worship, and teach. This autonomy and freedom are an innate right that Our Lord Jesus Christ has given her for the pursuit of her proper ends. For this reason, as Pastors we firmly assert the right to decide autonomously on the celebration of Mass and the Sacraments, just as we claim absolute autonomy in matters falling within our immediate jurisdiction, such as liturgical norms and ways of administering Communion and the Sacraments. The State has no right to interfere, for any reason whatsoever, in the sovereignty of the Church. Ecclesiastical authorities have never refused to collaborate with the State, but such collaboration does not authorize civil authorities to impose any sort of ban or restriction on public worship or the exercise of priestly ministry. The rights of God and of the faithful are the supreme law of the Church, which she neither intends to, nor can, abdicate. We ask that restrictions on the celebration of public ceremonies be removed.

We should like to invite all people of good will not to shirk their duty to cooperate for the common good, each according to his or her own state and possibilities and in a spirit of fraternal charity. The Church desires such cooperation, but this cannot disregard either a respect for natural law or a guarantee of individual freedoms. The civil duties to which citizens are bound imply the State’s recognition of their rights.

We are all called to assess the current situation in a way consistent with the teaching of the Gospel. This means taking a stand: either with Christ or against Christ. Let us not be intimidated or frightened by those who would have us believe that we are a minority: Good is much more widespread and powerful than the world would have us believe. We are fighting against an invisible enemy that seeks to divide citizens, to separate children from their parents, grandchildren from their grandparents, the faithful from their pastors, students from teachers, and customers from vendors. Let us not allow centuries of Christian civilization to be erased under the pretext of a virus, and an odious technological tyranny to be established, in which nameless and faceless people can decide the fate of the world by confining us to a virtual reality. If this is the plan to which the powers of this earth intend to make us yield, know that Jesus Christ, King and Lord of History, has promised that “the gates of Hell shall not prevail” (Mt 16:18).

Let us entrust government leaders and all those who rule over the fate of nations to Almighty God, that He may enlighten and guide them in this time of great crisis. May they remember that, just as the Lord will judge us Pastors for the flock which he has entrusted to us, so will He also judge government leaders for the peoples whom they have the duty to defend and govern.

With faith, let us beseech the Lord to protect the Church and the world. May the Blessed Virgin, Help of Christians, crush the head of the ancient Serpent and defeat the plans of the children of darkness.

Assuming this is genuine its a massive step forward.
I have read and signed it.
While I am not of any church I am well aware of the power of this appeal and the effect it will have on many, perhaps millions, who I hope will sign it.
There is light at the end of the tunnel-- not just from this appeal but from other sources --iethe number of views the various videos are getting before being taken down.

    Yes indeed.
It specifically mentions the use of material from aborted fetus .

The PTB made a big mistake in banning people from churches -- you put state before God you are asking for trouble even in this day and age.
Depends what is done with the petition when they get enough signatures.
Im hopeful that it will have some effect.
Politicians are very aware of how public opinion can influence the votes.

In the same vein I was interested to see President Trump saying that a virus antidote may not be needed and just leave it to die out.
I wonder if he visits here or watched videos that get deleted.

An appeal signed by Cardinal Gerhard Müller of Germany, Bishop Joseph Strickland of Tyler, Texas (known as "The Red-Pilled Shepherd"), and retired Cardinal Joseph Zen of Hong Kong has been released expressing concern about measures being implemented to stem the coronavirus pandemic. It calls for the “inalienable rights of citizens and their fundamental freedoms” to be respected. Cardinal Robert Sarah of Guinea initially signed, but changed his mind and withdrew his name.

Among the more than 80 signatories are medical doctors (many of whom are from northern Italy, the region hardest hit by the pandemic), magistrates and lawyers, heads of associations, and journalists. They comprise both Catholics and non-Catholics, including some atheists. A late addition is environmental lawyer Robert Francis Kennedy Jr., son of the late Robert F. Kennedy.

The appeal, principally written by former apostolic nuncio Archbishop Carlo Viganò, comes from the website of an ad hoc organization that calls itself Veritas Liberabit Vos (the truth shall set you free), a line from the Gospel of John (8:32). It is not known who created the site. There has been no comment from the Vatican.

I wrote this on another thread, as a response to Melinda, Chris. It sums up my point of view, fwiw.

"it's worth considering, maybe, that if people want to make a case to whatever law enforcement or local politician / authority might disagree with them (authorities who might try to stop them or punish them) then it's helpful for them to know of information that conflicts with the justifications those officials are using to shut them down or limit their movements. That includes testimony from medical professionals, politicians and others who provide evidence of hypocrisy, corruption, or mistakes / inefficiency from officials pushing for lockdown and harsh measures."--Melinda

The U.S government is a vast criminal enterprise--including its judicial system. No more than a fraction of those involved, are aware of that fact. Any country that has to be on a permanent war footing for the sake of its economy and to preserve the reserve status of its currency, is overtly criminal. Forget a secret government. This is right out in the open and is neither left or right.

Whether the virus is part of a greater plan, originally aimed at the Chinese, or not...I can't tell for sure and it is almost incidental to the greater global screw over that has been going on for years. If it was part of plan, the blowback is extraordinary and the federal govt. under Trump has revealed with what utter contempt it holds it's citizens.

I have to deal with the IRS yearly, and from personal experience can tell you, it was a dream before the fool became president and gutted funding and instituted chaos. I could phone up, have my calls answered by a pleasant and helpful individual.

Since the buffoon was elected, my licensed accountant whose sole focus is foreign accounts with the IRS hasn't been able to get through. What does this tell you? The agencies that are held up as evil, are often underfunded and employees can't do their jobs. So teeny weeny government for the mass of citizens and huge government infrastructure for the military, for example, illuminated here. (but by all means, those who decry socialism, keep blue pilling it. Feed the propaganda that the federal parasite craves)

The department of public health at Harvard U is a crumbling decaying edifice. The ones dedicated to medical private enterprise, on the same grounds, are bastions of marble and a great architectural beauties to behold. Says something. Crumbling and underfunded is for you. Gleaming and marble is for the upper 5%

There is enough politicized plausible deniability around the issue of the virus, that 'the truth' will either never be known, or it will be outgunned. It is a worthless pursuit to think going through any judicial process will solve any problems, regardless of what they are.

As I don't live in the U.S. I have chosen to shelter in place but realize, again...regardless of cause, that the govt here can't endlessly support the millions of unemployed and the country has to carefully resume operations in a coordinated intelligent way...soon. That is just the way it has to be.

But, make no mistake, this virus isn't a hoax and, like the Spanish flu, could produce strains that cause much more damage in their subsequent waves. So, the conspiracy angle -that local and state governments are somehow aligned with evil forces to strip you of your rights, is incorrect.

You may not agree with what they are doing and who would blame you? But...the intent is not evil--not on their part. These people are not out to get you. They are trying to mitigate a disaster. If there is a plan, it's not a top down conspiracy. It's configured differently.

It is so bad, so bad, that you don't want to pull relatively minor politicians and functionaries, who are garden variety corrupt, into the larger weirder thing that might be going on. If there is a plan, it is part of a geostrategic and global macro dynamic.
Don't discount that those who seem to make great sense may be part of it, or whose ideas may be behind it. I am looking at you, Steve Bannon.

Someone sent a link to it in a German WhatsApp group. German Bild Zeitung, which changed her stance to a more critical one since being taken over by US investors KKS this January, also had it as a headline (online) for a few hours before they buried it somewhere.

That’s the link to their article (in German)

The United States is on the verge of civil war. The people are more divided than ever; friends and families are divided, households are divided, spouses are divided. People are atrophying mentally, emotionally, spiritually. We are all in a weakened state to successfully stave off a non-violent negotiation.

As the people are being corralled, something will give. This is exactly why it has been so important for the PTB to go after the 2nd amendment--to avoid the inevitable conflict of a the take down of Constitutional Government, which isn't possible without violence given the 2nd Amendment.

Yesterday we witnessed perhaps the nascent overture of what's to come in Central Michigan as Michigan Militia and the Michigan State police had a standoff over enforcing Governor Whitman's order to arrest a 77 year old barber who refused to close his barber shop.

This is just the beginning, folks. If the totalitarians and fear-mongering propagandists do not back down from their march (and there is no evidence to indicate otherwise), this isn't going to end well.

    Godspeed to all.

From Australia. I don't know the context and preamble to this video.

Suffice to say if it stacks up to face value, then this is where the rubber meets the road.

I was hoping to see 100+ local men with guts and integrity quietly wading in to the middle of that abomination and telling the cops in no uncertain terms to re-evaluate their mindsets and morals.

Police officer Greg Anderson speaking out a few days ago.

The latest update on his situation. Basically he's been fired for speaking out, specifically not adhering to the orders of his state governor. In his own words from 2:25.

The United States is on the verge of civil war. The people are more divided than ever; friends and families are divided, households are divided, spouses are divided. People are atrophying mentally, emotionally, spiritually. We are all in a weakened state to successfully stave off a non-violent negotiation.

This is just the beginning, folks. If the totalitarians and fear-mongering propagandists do not back down from their march (and there is no evidence to indicate otherwise), this isn't going to end well.

Well, I can look at a Treasury Department-blacklisted Iranian website and get a picture of a local protestor described as entering a sandwich shop. Oh, look, it's a Subway, everyone's heard of that, right?

It is legitimate, and, for the most part, represents the Small Businesses that were presumably assisted by government intervention:

I don't know what the Iranians think of this, but it is the law abiding tax paying type of conservative, because it is our small businesses. Needless to say, should there be any kind of violent outbreak they could legally respond to, it is already very well prepared for, for a very long time.

I mean, we have bits and pieces of gangs that commit shootings pretty much daily, but, if you were talking in terms of that crowd versus the people as a whole, it would be eradicated almost immediately.

So if you mean civil disturbances, that could be likely, but who would mount an actual civil war in an attempt to take over the government?

The only similar one I am aware of was an attempt to get rid of it.

It's just a heritage. These are not the people in Idaho who build survival camps. That guy might be on the fire department. So it is a bit more, society as whole has this kind of safety net built in. The idea of removing that government has not gone away. But these days it would probably be more of a non-violent Brexit into regional blocs.

Colorado restaurant reopens in defiance of statewide public health order.

    http://www.denverpost.com/2020/05/10...s-coronavirus/

The restaurant owner said they reopened to stand "for America, small businesses, the Constitution and against the overreach of our governor in Colorado!!"

The church people say the governor can't close church because it is unconstitutional.

Firstly, the U. S. Constitution does not apply to the governor. It says no religion will be forcefully established or prohibited; it doesn't say anything about whether you can go to a particular church building.

The governor however is party to the state constitution, which, unlike the U. S., is a document that depends upon God and sounds a whole lot to me like an establishment of some kind of religion--and they can do that, since it is only the U. S. government that cannot.

The closest ours comes internally to any religious subject is:

All persons have a natural and inalienable right to worship Almighty God according to the dictates of their own consciences, and no human authority shall, in any case whatever, control or interfere with the rights of conscience.

Here, they say "conscience" twice, only instance in the whole document. It must mean something, but, it turns out to be almost undefined; a close approximation is:

Rights of conscience, however, protect a person from mandatory participation in an activity if the activity in question threatens the fundamental values of an individual person.

    Example:

a doctor believes abortion is murder, so he does not have to do it. It makes no difference whether his opinion is true.

    Possible examples would be:

war or vaccines disturb your personal beliefs. You should not have to do them. But I am not sure if this actually gets protected.

Again there is nothing in the language that has anything to do with physical addresses or whether you can travel to them. It's just a different subject. This right does not allow you to do anything. It prevents the government from compelling you to act.

But, if we follow the language as it is actually written, no human authority may control or interfere with rights of conscience, and so it looks like vaccines are thoroughly objectionable on this basis. Of course, the U. S. Constitution is silent on conscience; one would perhaps have to invoke the ninth amendment that "other rights are not disparaged".

Not sure if this has been posted yet, but Elon Musk has reopened his Tesla plant in Fremont, California in defiance of county Covid-19 mandates.

    https://techcrunch.com/2020/05/11/el...county-orders/

He is quoted to have said, “if anyone is arrested, I ask that it only be me.”

The article above cites a response from California governor Gavin Newsom. Most people I know here in California assume that Newsom is working his way very diligently to the White House. He definitely seems to have his eyes on the presidency.

Newsom was the mayor of San Francisco for several years, and then attorney general and now governor. I'm sure he and Musk are great, good friends. It will be interesting to see how he handles this situation with Musk while simultaneously protecting his political ambitions.

Is Musk somehow participating in pre-scripted political theater? I can't say that I trust him to be non-compliant for any kind of humanitarian or civil rights reasons.

(Moderators: if this post is in the wrong thread, please feel free to move it. Posting it here because of the non-compliance issue, but it's also oddly complicated!)

Good question. Nearby, it appears Los Angeles is going to continue going nowhere for maybe another three months.

Some cities nothing near that big around here are going a bit stricter, longer, and some people still say they believe it is safer just to keep keeping everyone at home.

These shutdowns are coming from mayors and local health boards. I understand there is a disease at large and I see we have ramped up to 15k positive out of 200k tests; but during this time, hospital requirements took a need from "nothing" to about 350 somewhat quickly, then for a month, struggled to break 500, and now went under again. With a few thousand more tests and positive tests, there is less strain on the system. Let me rephrase that. There has not been any strain on the system, and now there is less call for it.

I am not sure what it takes to put that big of a foot on Los Angeles, again, or what happens when you do that.

This short clip put a smile on my face to start the day. One man shaming 20 cops for the old "do as we say, not as we do". I think this is from Los Angeles.

A sign of things to come?

    Officer Anderson: (partial transcript)
We don’t get to violate people's constitutional rights because somebody in our chain of command tells us otherwise. It’s not how this country works. We’re violating people's rights and taking money from them or even worse arresting them and depriving them of their freedom. When they are exercising their constitutional rights.

You don't get to stop people unless you have reasonable suspicion or probable cause that they have committed a crime. These officers that are going out here and enforcing these tyrannical orders they're widening the gap between public trust and law enforcement officers. Our power that we hold as law enforcement officers it’s nothing more than a facade. It’s a badge and a gun. And people you don't realize if you haven't lived in anarchy, if you haven't seen combat things can be stripped from people in a heartbeat. And that’s what I'm afraid of. I’m afraid that these actions are going to wake a sleeping giant, ie the American.

People you know you don't get to just say, “Well I’m doing this because I was told to do so.” “Well I'm following orders or I need to keep this job.” If you’re part of a department or an agency that is asking people or asking their officers or their deputies to impose on people's rights and infringe on their their freedoms, you need to step up and say no. That’s not me. That’s not what I signed up for and that's going against my oath. And if that cost you your job so be it.

I'll leave you with this something that I learned as an E-nothing in the Army. No matter what situation you're put in if you look inside yourself and ask yourself one question, “Am I doing the right thing?” You ask yourself that you know the answer and no amount of money or no order or law or anything should be able to make you go against doing the right thing. So I'm employing officers to look inside themselves and ask themselves, “Is this what I want to be doing to my citizens?” And I think the answer is clear. And if we all stand up together, guess what it'll be a non-issue, no factor because people in law enforcement will be United like we should be.
