Several” US federal government agencies have been hit in a global cyberattack that exploits a vulnerability in widely used software.

The US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency “is providing support to several federal agencies that have experienced intrusions” affecting vulnerable software exploited by the hackers, Eric Goldstein, the agency’s executive assistant director for cybersecurity, said in a statement on Thursday to CNN. “We are working urgently to understand impacts and ensure timely remediation.”

It was not immediately clear if the hackers responsible for breaching the federal agencies were a Russian-speaking ransomware group that has claimed credit for numerous other victims in the hacking campaign.

A CISA spokesperson had no comment when CNN asked who carried out the hack of federal agencies and how many have been affected.

But the news adds to a growing tally of victims of a sprawling hacking campaign that began two weeks ago and has hit major US universities and state governments. The hacking spree mounts pressure on federal officials who have pledged to put a dent in the scourge of ransomware attacks that have hobbled schools, hospitals and local governments across the US.

Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and the university’s renowned health system said in a statement this week that “sensitive personal and financial information,” including health billing records may have been stolen in the hack.

"New details have emerged on the U.S. government spying on citizens following the release of a bombshell report showing that intelligence agencies have bought vast troves of sensitive information on Americans from businesses that harvest people’s data.

Over the years, private data collection services have accumulated commercially available information (CAI), which encompasses highly-revealing data on millions of American citizens, including location, smartphone, and web browsing data.

While much of this commercially available data is anonymous, it can be “deanonymized” and used to identify people, according to a recent report from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), released on June 9.

U.S. intelligence agencies have admitted to buying large quantities of this information and are able to tap it for valuable intelligence on unsuspecting Americans, per the report.

The report warned that a lack of standards and procedures around obtaining and handling this data by spy agencies poses risks to people’s privacy and even safety.

In a new development following the release of the report, Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines said that she has established a panel to make recommendations about how spy agencies can use this information.

“Given the increasing volume of data that is commercially available, I established a Senior Advisory Group Panel on Commercially Available Information and asked them to make recommendations to the Intelligence Community (IC) regarding how and under what circumstances the IC should use commercially available information, and in particular, to reflect on the existing framework for ensuring the protection of privacy and civil liberties,” Haines said in a June 14 statement.

Haines added that her office—and the intelligence community more broadly—are now considering the report’s key recommendations and working to implement them.

Growing Threat
The report represents the first known attempt by the government to carry out a comprehensive assessment of how federal agencies obtain and use commercially available data on Americans, which is often collected without their knowledge.

“In a way that far fewer Americans seem to understand, and even fewer of them can avoid, CAI includes information on nearly everyone that is of a type and level of sensitivity that historically could have been obtained” only by targeted intelligence gathering capabilities, such as court-authorized search warrants, wiretaps, and surveillance, the report states.

Its publication follows a request by Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) for Haines to review all commercial data purchases by intelligence agencies.

“I appreciate that DNI Haines kept her word to stand-up this review group and then to publish the results of their work,” Wyden said in a statement.

The report was authored by an advisory panel, whose identity has been redacted.

The key takeaway from the report is that commercially available information is an increasingly powerful asset for use in intelligence—and that it poses a growing threat to privacy, individual liberties, and even personal safety.

Even though commercially available information may be anonymous, the report warns that it’s often possible to “deanonymize” it and so identify the individuals it pertains to. This information could then be used to “cause harm to an individual’s reputation, emotional well-being, or physical safety.”

If the data falls into the wrong hands, it could easily be used to “facilitate blackmail, stalking, harassment, and public shaming,” the report warns.

U.S. intelligence agencies were urged in the report to develop better policies and guardrails around the use of such data in order to address the growing threat that this practice poses.

Commercially available information “is increasingly powerful for intelligence and increasingly sensitive for individual privacy and civil liberties, and the IC therefore needs to develop more refined policies to govern its acquisition and treatment,” the report states.

While no specific policy recommendations were put forward, the report identified gaps, such as a lack of standards and procedures for acquiring and handling such data. It also flagged a lack of transparency, noting that the intelligence community does not even keep track of what commercially available information it buys on Americans.

Wyden urged stronger executive oversight of the acquisition and use of such data, while calling on Congress to establish safeguards.

“This review shows the government’s existing policies have failed to provide essential safeguards for Americans’ privacy, or oversight of how agencies buy and use personal data,” Wyden said in a statement, adding that the current state of affairs means that there are “few meaningful limits on government surveillance.”

“Congress needs to pass legislation to put guardrails around government purchases, to rein in private companies that collect and sell this data, and keep Americans’ personal information out of the hands of our adversaries,” Wyden said.

The Epoch Times has reached out to ODNI with a request for comment and on Wyden’s call for new legal guardrails but did not receive a response by time of publication."

California governor Gavin Newsom is going to intervene in a federal injunction preventing San Franscico from cleaning homeless encampments. It's a ping-pong game of inaction.

Gavin Newsom said Tuesday the state will intervene in an ongoing federal court case that's barred San Francisco from cleaning up homeless encampments until more shelter beds are available, saying the judge has gone too far and is preventing the state from solving a critical problem.

"I hope this goes to the Supreme Court," Newsom said. "And that’s a hell of a statement coming from a progressive Democrat."

Newsom made his remarks during an interview with news outlet Politico in Sacramento. He previously blasted U.S. Magistrate Judge Donna Ryu in an interview with the San Francisco Chronicle but had not disclosed his administration's plan to file an amicus brief supporting the city's efforts to overturn the ruling.

Ryu granted the injunction in December after homeless advocates argued the city had been violating the law by clearing homeless encampments without offering shelter and improperly throwing out peoples' belongings such as cellphones and medication.

Her decision has drawn rebuke from Democratic leaders in San Francisco, who argued in appellate court last month for a reversal of the decision. They say the ruling has made it nearly impossible to clean up the city’s streets and that more people are refusing shelter even when it is available.

Newsom, the former San Francisco mayor, said he’s personally worked on cleaning up three encampments near San Francisco but that his staff stopped him from cleaning up a fourth due to a court ruling. More broadly, Newsom said federal judges are ruling with a "perverse interpretation" of a court ruling stemming from a case in Boise, Idaho, that said cities can't prosecute people for sleeping on the streets if they have nowhere else to go.

FWIW - election fraud is an American tradition. In Upton Sinclair's "The Jungle," he relates a tale about the Republicans offering voters $5 to vote their party, while the Democrats offered $10. The Republicans lost, of course, being cheapskates (LOL).

In the movie, The Great McGinty (1940), corruption and vote buying enabled a scoundrel to become governor. Coincidentally, the same fictional governor shows up in the movie, The Miracle of Morgan’s Creek (1944). This was great comedy to the audience...Eek.

Another snippet from The Young Philadelphians (1959) features a party boss (Brian Keith) sending free turkeys to insure voting along the “party” line.

I wasn't sure whether to post this (hopelessly) doom and gloom video but (I found) it interesting so just in case others may want to watch..?. The presenter does have a good bit of documentation and interview, etc. to back up his opinion and conclusions. He concludes that in the end the reasoning, lead-up and conclusion of all that is currently taking place on this planet - as outlined in the subject line (and which has already been covered in numerous threads on this forum) all leads up to Asteroid Apophis, in fact, everything that is happening (civil war, Chinese/Russian invasion, depopulation, underground bunkers, etc.) and he says, every single government is aware, is in preparation for the arrival of this cosmic body (he refers to it as that planet that has been talked about since 2004) and all governments around the world are preparing for the arrival (Russia apparently has a large underground city to harbour those remaining from what is to come). The object won't hit earth but the debris will pretty much destroy everything on earth. Supposedly the info that this guy has collected has the object arriving in 2029 and humanity is being divided into 3 groups with the former 2 slated for total destruction (war, next "pandemic" forced vax, WWIII...) and the latter get the prize of going underground. Guess it coincides with the prophecy of fire in the sky and the 3 days of darkness. Still, in the end, it is an opinion/pov and much can change but I think that there is probably much that will play out as he believes (seems to be heading in that direction). So, just a blurb on video content since it didn't come with a description on bitchute. The info he presents is pretty much covered in different places for the most part but he just beefs it up with more detail (I think).

What's the famous saying death and taxes are for sure. Were definitely in interesting times, clones, doubles, fake AI information, it all gets overwhelming but for many of us who have been around for a while here we appreciate the evidence presented but the freaking out , dig a hole feelings are non existent.
