    Default What is this?

    Dear Friends,

I hope someone can tell me what this is. I know meaning of certain words here, and have googled some words, but I can't find them all. As it seems to me most are Hebrew names/titles for OT god Yahweh.

What is intriguing to me is that I have found this under my mattress. No one in my family is Hebrew, not even religious. I have no idea who put it there and why. Only thing that comes to my mind is that my grandma put it there when I was a child because of severe nightmares that I had, and wasn't able to sleep properly. Can't ask her because she is suffering from dementia, poor grandma. But this is not the first time that I have been taking my mattress out, and I've never seen this before. It's like it just appeared, hehe.

If someone would give me some insight, I would appreciate it. I find this interesting.

    Pentacle of the seven planets?

Maybe some kind of protection talisman?

    Hi,

This one is called "pentacle of the seven planets" and it is Hebrew as you guessed.

I thought for a bit it could be one of the great or lesser keys of Solomon, but it is not, seems like it was crafted with a purpose, these keys are used in magic rituals. People involved in magic generally wear this symbol as a talisman.

I will try to break down this pentacle for you..

    - the numbers in the matrix/square is called "square of jupiter" and each planet has similar square of numbers and it is called planetary squares.
    - that curved symbol right above Saphiel is called Johphiel means intelligence of Jupiter, Saphiel by the way is an angel (the gatekeeper, who guarded the holy real).
    - The word Sigilla or just Sigil is a fixed star (one of the 15), there is a passage in the book of Enoch about it, but I do not know much about.
    - Eloym (Eloy), Elohe, Zebaoth (Zabahot), Eloym (Elion), Ederrehye (Esarchie), Adonay, lah (Jah), Tetragramaton and Saday (Sady) are used to infuse divine power in the symbol.
    - El is an incomplete name for GOD.
    - The cross with the circle I have no clue what it could be, seems like it is a planet with the fixed star.
    - the symbol that resembles the number 4 (four) is the hour of Jupiter (the second hour after sunrise on Saturday, third hour after sun rise on Sunday, and so on, there is a time table with all planets and their respective hours).

The others symbols I am not sure about them, need an Hebrew dictionary of magic in order to understand their meaning.

p.s.: If you found it under your bed, it means someone spelled a magic for you, not necessarily good or bad, it will help if you know who did it, then you will know the intention.

I hope that helps a bit.

This will call upon the powers of Jupiter as it contains many Jupiter symbols. The Hebrew names in the circumference of the circle are the various divine names of God in its different aspects on the Tree of Life. As Jupiter is the great Benefactor, it is calling upon his good fortune to benefit you, while you are sleeping and in your waking life. Maybe your grandmother put it there to help you. If you feel comfortable put it back under your mattress - Hopefully you have had some good fortune come your way with more to follow !

Il or El is a broad spread mid-eastern term, sometimes used as in "El Elion", or , in Islam, La Illaha, Illah Allah (there are no il's, there is only Allah).

Here we also see "pentacle" in its meaning of "disk".

We can also see this is pre-printed. If it was me, I would have etched it in a real Jupiter disk, such as Tin.

What looks like a "4" is a semi-circle stuck to a cross, which is Jupiter.

I do not think it is a hex or curse, and probably is well-intentioned, but, I have let go of these Hebrew systems. Jupiter is perhaps a bit different in the East as described here. A lot of the western system is based from the east, like, if one wonders why "Jupiter's hour" changes around, it comes from the east and is easily explained, based on planetary orbits.

Jupiter is "key" in this probably.

The square is actually a well known order 4 "magic square" with a sum of 34, and stands for Jupiter.
It was - in a slightly different form, but same numbers - painted by Dürer in his "Melancholia 1" painting, from 1514.
This was used as a talisman to drive away melancholy (pretty closely related to nightmares).

Other magic squares exist too, like Saturn (3x3 square/15), Mars (5x5 square/65), the sun (6x6 square/111). There are others.
Lots of info on the link that Helvetic mentioned above.

I think it was a well-intended way to protect you from nightmares and/or melancholy (but you didn't mention that).

Apologizes, I expressed myself wrongly when said incomplete, it would be proper to say "general" instead, for example: the term is used to refer Deity, refer Gods in Judaism (YHWH; El; Eloah; Elohim; Elohai; El Shaddai; Tzevaot; Jah) also used in the old testament as a synonym for Yahweh (YHWH) or Tetragrammaton, the term is broadly used, it is really a general term no doubts.

When you say Melancholy, this immediately brings to mind Black Bile Humor.

That would make it specific to Alchemy.

Mathers's Key of Solomon places El and Sophiel with the Moon; however, Jupiter's Figure 20 uses the same glyph that is found over Sophiel in the OP. Note that the "Hebrew" in these is Mathers' own reconstruction from Latin.

Edit: in looking around, "Pentacle of Seven Planets" is a name for a piece of jewelry, which is not in the historic study, or the KoS, hard to say where it comes from.

    Default Pentacles

It seems it's some sort ofa protection device, especially because it's under your bed. And yes it's hebrew of nature methinks.

An excerpt from the below link: "The First Pentacle of Saturn. – This Pentacle is of great value andutility for striking terror into the Spirits. Wherefore, upon its being shown to themthey submit, and kneeling upon the earth before it, they obey"

The OP's pentacle is not part of the Keys/Seals of Solomon, there is no register of such a pentacle in the study, I have copies of different versions of KoS manuscripts including the direct translation from Hebrew into French and there is no information about it. This pentacle was crafted later and it is also used as talisman/amulet (or jewelry if you prefer), I can assure it is not part of the "La grande clavicule de Salomon" or Goetia, Theurgia Goetia, Ars (Lesser Key of Solomon or Clavicula Salomonis Regis from 17th century). As far as I know the manuscript that KoS was derived from start as far back in the 14th century (1440), after that Hebrew and Greek version was written (I do not know which one came first), I will check the Greek version and see if I can find something.

The OP's pentacle is probably from the 19th or 20th century, seems like it is an adaptation of the existent pentacles.

Probably so. It is why this kind of system is a bit difficult. Nothing on the design suggests "seven planets" to me. Jupiter seems overly prominent. In the Eastern mantra system, many deities simply become their first initial, and so Jupiter--Bhrihaspati is in the syllable Bhr which isn't quite a word, so, the first iteration would generally be Bhrim.

The East only uses seven physical planets; the others are the Moon's Nodes and the Ascendant. North Node or Dragon's Head, Rahu, ostensibly uses the syllable Ram, which is shared with Rama--Sun, and also with Agni. However at a tantric level, he becomes:

oṁ bhraṁ bhrīṁ bhrauṁ saḥ rāhave namaḥ

In this symbolism, Jupiter must be pretty close to an effective agent for the Sun. Rahu swallows the sun (eclipse). So we find a set of dynamics, just from the basic letters. And here it adds Sah, which is not a planetary entity, but universal life breath.

It would seem to me if there was a "centerpiece" of seven planets, it would be Saturn. According to Armadel, Saday is Shaddai, which is of unknown origin, not necessarily even Israelite, which seems rather odd for perhaps the most salient feature.

It almost definitely does not mean Almighty. Here is a refutation. Despite the lack of clear origin, they believe it was the original word used in Israel, especially by Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. One possibility is "breasts", or, the feminine of YHVH.

I will concede a doubly big "What is this?" if there is still no agreement on what Abraham and Genesis were talking about.

Thank you friends for all your responses and insight, I appreciate all the info. I'll make sure to read through all those links, I find all of this really interesting.

I'm pretty sure it was put there with good intentions, as people who have bad intentions towards me do not have access to my room.
Nor have I done anything so bad to someone that they would want to hex/curse me, at least I think I have not.

The thing with my grandma and nightmares is all that came to my mind, and based on what you guys said, it makes sense. She was not a "magician" of any kind, but I remember that she took me when I was a child to some old lady who have done something about those severe nightmares and sleep problems that I had. That lady was doing something with a piece of red string and lead, boiling it in water, can't remember exactly as I was really young. I guess that lady also gave that thing to my grandma to put in under the bed.

I forgot to attach a picture of this when I made this thread, this was also under my mattress next to that "talisman" thing:

I couldn't upload original image as it was bigger than 2MB.

    Default Re: What is this?

Chesed is part of Jewish theology which may not have a direct translation, but, is the root term of Chasidic Jews. The more technical description other than "love" or "mercy" is:

    "loving covenant obligation"

Wiki links it comparatively to our Buddhist Metta. In fact, this is really not even Buddhist, or it pre-dates Buddha, a part of Four Brahma Vihara or attributes of the roaming sage, or Four Immeasurables:

    Metta--love

    Karuna--compassionate action

Mudita--joy in the happiness of others

    Upekka--repose

So that comes from ancient Indian wisdom, and is used, consistently, in Buddhism, forever, at increasing levels of realization.

In the East, Jupiter does not have the role of Chesed or Metta. Metta or Maitri has almost no independent role; in the Puranas, she is the mother of Abhaya (Fearlessness) or Prasad (Food Blessing), but for the most part, Metta is the "first step", or, a built-in part of everything else on the Path.

The Kabbala instead places Chesed as meaning the first action or outpouring of its transcendent higher Sephiroth, whereas, comparatively, orthodox Judaism appears closer to general Indian culture in making Chesed the basis of tikkun olam or "repairing the world".

    What is this?

    Is this for real?

I would post in the weird weather, but what I see here is so strange I'm not sure if it's real... It's not sinking in my little, naive brain very well

If this post needs moving, I'm cool OK with that

    Flash frozen...

Thank you for looking in and/or having an opinion, as appropriate

Today is victory over yourself of yesterday. Tomorrow is your victory over lesser men.

I think I should highlight this is posted in the What Does It Mean? category, in a thread called What is this?. It's one of those moments where I can't believe my lying eyes... a bit outside the range of my experience. My questions are sincere, not Socratic 🥂
