    "Chinese authorities announced plans to remake Mao Zedong’s Rectification Campaign, which was the Party’s bloodiest internal purge. Chen Yixin, Secretary-general of the Central Political and Legal Affairs Commission, who also directs the National Political and Legal Affairs Team Education and Rectification Pilot Office announced that the first stage of the campaign has already been completed.

    The official announcement cites Mao, and states the Chinese government has again started a campaign to purge “corrupt elements” in order to create an “ironclad army” of law enforcement agencies. Mao’s Yan’an Rectification Campaign, which lasted from 1942 to 1945, focused on internal indoctrination in the party to “unify their thinking” and killed an estimated 10,000 in purges mainly focused on party members.

    The new campaign will look to ensure that police, judges, and state security agents stay unconditionally loyal and in line with party policy, and to Xi Jinping. And while it will function as a party purge, it will also be viewed as Xi proactively fighting corruption in China’s legal systems."

    China Is Flooding - The CCP’s Pathetic Response (6:20)
    Aug 29, 2020
    Chinese officials warn the worst is yet to come with out of control Yangtze River flooding that's
    having a devastating effect on the mega city Chongqing & downstream the city of Wuhan. And
    with surging flood waters, there's more concern of the 3 Gorges Dam collapsing. But with the
    people of China suffering, the Chinese Communist Party and Xi Jinping have begun a pathetic
    response to the China floods, staging fake meetings with victims and focusing more on food
    waste campaign targeting Mukbang to cover up an impending food shortage throughout the
    country

    Yes, many thanks!

    The article was dated 20 August, 11 days ago. The full [automatic!] translation is:

    ~~~
    According to a report by the Central News Agency today, the largest flood peak in the history of the Three Gorges Dam has opened 11 flood discharge holes.
    The report cited information from Hubei Radio and Television’s "Yangtze River Cloud" App that the Three Gorges Dam on the Yangtze River had its largest flood peak since its completion at 8 am today, with a flow of 75,000 cubic meters per second and 11 flood discharge holes have been opened.
    The discharge flow reaches 49,200 cubic meters per second. The Three Gorges Dam opened 11 flood discharges at 7:50 last night. At that time, the discharge flow reached 49,400 cubic meters per second, which was the largest water discharge since the construction of the reservoir. As of 8 o'clock last night, the upstream of the Three Gorges Dam had reached 73,800 cubic meters per second.
    According to sources, affected by heavy rainfall, the No. 5 flood occurred in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River recently. Chongqing, located in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, is suffering from floods. The report quoted the news from China News Network in the morning. As of press time, more than 250,000 people have been transferred to avoid danger and more than 130,000 people have been relocated in emergency. The Paper last night quoted the Ministry of Water Resources as predicting that the peak flow of the Three Gorges Reservoir in the Yangtze River on the 20th may reach 76,000 cubic meters per second.
    Cracks appear in China's giant dam
    85,695 views•Aug 30, 2020
    (It's hard to say if the cracks are serious or not, given how tightly managed the news from China is by the CCP.
    From what I've read about cavitation, however, if the dam has been seriously damaged, it's not likely to show now because it will be happening where the water hits the dam the hardest, and that remains underwater until the floods go way down.
    At the speed with which the water is hitting the dam before it's released through the flood gates, it seems very likely cavitation is occurring.
    If cavitation was caused by the Colorado river carving out the Grand Canyon, the 3 Gorges Dam is surely not going to be immune to it.
    From what we've been seeing concerning how the Chinese tend to takes lots of short cuts when it comes to construction, it seems like the centuries of flooding may have led them not to expect anything to last, and so to build accordingly.
    A page from the book in the Buddhist philosophy about Impermanence. )
    "A new surge in heavy rain and upstream flooding on the Yangtze River has caused many riverside businesses to shut down, while shipments along the river were halted on 28 August, affecting deliveries to manufactureers.
    Many Chinese factories were forced to halt production in February and March due to the coronavirus outbreak. While the economy has been recovering since April, a disaster along the Yangtze, where industries like automobiles, semiconductors and display panels are based, could set things back.
    Since flooding began in June, at least $26 Billion USD in economic losses have been incurred. Zhou Xuewen, Secretary general of China’s flood control headquarters, said in mid-August that at least 63 million people had been affected and 54,000 homes destroyed. At least 219 people have died or disappeared, he said."
    "China’s agriculture is already suffering from floods and drought. And now China’s southern provinces are facing their worst locust plague in decades.
    Massive protests broke out over the weekend in Inner Mongolia. This came after a leaked secret order from Beijing, which some are calling a “cultural genocide.”
    A high-profile Australian TV anchor has been detained in Beijing. She’s long appeared on business programs for China’s state-run English news channel CGTN. The news is adding fuel to already tense Australia-China relations.
    China is hoping to get rid of its reliance on Western technology for high-end chips. With one key company coming to a halt, that dream is now hitting a major roadblock.
    And the Czech Republic's second highest official is in Taiwan on a six day visit against the will of China. The Czech official called on Taiwan to defend its freedom and said democratic countries should support each other."
    China Demands Withdrawal of Indian Troops that Crossed Border in Ladakh
    Source: Sputnik News
    07:08 GMT 01.09.2020 by Rishikesh Kumar
    India and China have deployed thousands of additional troops and military equipment in Ladakh region after first ever violent clash on 15 June, in which 20 Indian soldiers were killed. The physical fight erupted once again on 29 August in Chushul valley of Ladakh region.
    A day after physical fighting in the Chushul area, China has accused Indian troops of trespassing across the Line of Actual Control on the southern bank of Pangong Lake, near the Regin Pass in the western sector of the China-India border, and conducted "flagrant provocations" on 31 August.
    “(We) urged the Indian side to strictly control and restrain its front line troops, earnestly honour its commitments, immediately stop all the provocative actions, immediately withdraw its troops illegally trespassing (across) the Line of Actual Control, and immediately stop any actions leading to the escalation and complication of the situation,”
    Ji Rong, Spokesperson of Chinese Embassy in India said on Tuesday
    The Chinese embassy in New Delhi has made “solemn representations to the Indian side” and asked New Delhi to withdraw all the front line troops which “grossly violated China's territorial sovereignty" and "seriously violated relevant agreements”.
    Rong said the Indian move had worked against efforts made by both sides for a period of time to ease and cool down the situation on the ground.
    Earlier on Monday, the Indian Army had claimed that the People's Liberation Army had carried out "provocative military movements" in the eastern Ladakh region, leading to fresh clashes between the troops of China and India during the night on 29-30 August.
    The two countries share a 4,057 kilometre border, stretching from Kashmir to Arunachal Pradesh. As the border is loosely demarcated, it has been remained a source of tension between the two countries for decades.
    This source :https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZ4...er8UNp2CxoZtnw (Dreadopedia) often has photos of the dam, but lately I haven't been seeing as many, so possibly the CCP is not allowing anyone near enough to take photos now.
    However, any photos or footage of the dam where the water is blue instead of brown and turgid looking, will not be current. I don't think I've seen any photos for quite awhile of the debris that builds up on the reservoir side, but the amount of debris is considerable. .
    (This article doesn't mention the affect that flooding is having on China, which is very strange because it's going to be a huge factor in China's trade capabilities, but even without that factoring in, China is facing a lot of changes, and the leadership seems to be dealing with that very counter-productively.)
    US Firms Move Supply Chains Out of China, Explore Options Closer to Home
    BY EMEL AKAN August 31, 2020
    https://www.theepochtimes.com/us-fir...tm_campaign=mb
    "WASHINGTON—The U.S.–China trade war and the COVID-19 pandemic have forced companies to reduce their excessive dependence on China as a single supplier.
    U.S. brands have started to explore sourcing options closer to home, with Latin and South America gaining significant traction in recent months, according to a survey by Qima, a Hong Kong-based supply chain inspection company.
    The survey conducted in July among more than 200 businesses around the world found that respondents are increasingly moving their sourcing away from China. Ninety-three percent of U.S. respondents reported that they had plans to further diversify their supply chains. Meanwhile, less than half of EU respondents had a similar strategy.
    China is still a major global player for sourcing, however, its dominance has become “noticeably less dramatic” compared to prior years, according to a Qima report that shows key survey findings.
    For example, 75 percent of respondents globally named China among the top 3 sourcing geographies this year, compared to an overwhelming 96 percent in 2019.
    Many companies especially those in textile and apparel have made supplier diversification a priority for a while, with Vietnam continuing to gain popularity as an alternative to China.
    “Consistently ranking among China’s regional competitors, Vietnam continues to reap the most benefits of the continued mass exodus of Western buyers from China, with 40 percent of EU respondents and almost as many U.S. brands including Vietnam among their top sourcing regions,” the report stated.
    Among other Asian countries, Taiwan is emerging “an indisputable leader” as it enjoys overwhelming preference as a sourcing market among American companies.
    The pandemic has also accelerated the need to reshore supply lines to the United States or near-shore to Latin and South America.
    “For U.S.-based companies, sourcing destinations closer to their home country continue to grow steadily, with the popularity of Latin and South America almost doubling compared to last year,” the Qima report stated.
    The survey found that 39 percent of U.S.-based companies indicated plans to source more from the United States and North America and 13 percent from South and Latin America.
    “Meanwhile, EU brands are increasingly turning to Turkey as a near-shoring destination,” the report stated.
    For decades, most large U.S. multinational corporations have heavily invested in facilities and human resources in China to gain access to the Chinese market, and they have already given up their intellectual property as a price of entry.
    However, the pandemic, coupled with the souring sentiment against the Chinese communist regime over the past few months, has forced many corporate boards to dramatically alter their sourcing strategies.
    Supply chain sustainability also has become a hot political topic as the November election approaches.
    President Donald Trump pledged to end U.S. reliance on China and bring back 1 million manufacturing jobs in his second term. He recently proposed providing tax credits and allowing “100 percent expensing deductions for essential industries like pharmaceuticals and robotics” to incentivize companies to produce in the United States.
    Trump also signed an executive order on Aug. 6 to ensure that essential medicines, medical supplies, and equipment are made in the United States.
    Former Vice President Joe Biden, the Democratic nominee, also pledged to “bring back critical supply chains.” He promised to “bolster American industrial and technological strength and ensure the future is ‘made in all of America’ by all of America’s workers.”
    In the past two decades, China has become a crucial global supplier. According to the United Nations, China accounts for nearly 20 percent of global trade in manufacturing intermediate products, up from 4 percent in 2002."
    "Today, we sit down with Mr. Wang Weiluo, a top water expert, to discuss how the fatal structural flaws of the Three Gorges Dam could induce earthquakes and flooding and eventually cause the dam to suffer a devastating blow.
    In our last conversation, we touched upon two potential risks that would lead to the collapse of the Three Gorges Dam. The first is in the event of a military conflict; the second is the safety of the dam in the event of a terrorist attack. What other dangers are looming for the Chinese people living downstream?"
    A frame from that video:
    That water level is nowhere near maxed out. For all the flood talk, it looks more like they are draining the dam, to me.
    I'm seriously beginning to think we are in the thick fog of war.
    From what I've seen, a lot of these videos about China are inaccurate hodpodges from lots of different sources (no telling if they are credible at all) and have shots of the dam and the flooding from all different times.
    That last one I posted may have been no exception.
    And others are so obviously anti-China, so no telling how reliable they are either.
    Not much I can post that can be authenticated, with the situation there being what it is.
    Keeping spare capacity might be sensible though if you don't want to get into a situation where more valves may need opening, making the flooding situation worse.
    Of course, you would want to open it all up if the dam wasn't holding up. Slow flood better than quick.
    BdAnon said it would collapse within 19 days on the 1st.
    I am thinking and hoping the first situation is more likely though. Fingers crossed!
