"Many religious groups are targeted for persecution in China, including Christians, Catholics, Falun Gong practitioners, Muslim Uyghurs, and Tibetan Buddhists, and if these persecutions are not challenged, the regime's programs for religious suppression risk spreading around the world. To learn more about this we've invited to speak with us William L. Saunders, religious liberty and human rights scholar at The Catholic University of America, and chair of the Religious Liberties Practice Group of the Federalist Society."

Pompeo Lifts Restrictions on US Contact With Taiwan Officials
BY CATHY HE January 9, 2021
    https://www.theepochtimes.com/pompeo...g-2021-01-09-3

"The United States will remove all “self-imposed restrictions” on contact with Taiwanese officials, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced on Jan. 9, laying the groundwork for closer relations with the democratic island.

The announcement, made during the final days of President Donald Trump’s term, marks the latest move to deepen ties with the self-governed island. The Chinese regime views Taiwan as part of its territory, to be brought into its control by force if necessary, and opposes any U.S. official contact with the island.

The secretary lifted decades-old “complex internal restrictions” that have regulated diplomats, service members, and other officials’ interactions with their Taiwanese counterparts, according to a statement.

“The United States government took these actions unilaterally, in an attempt to appease the Communist regime in Beijing,” Pompeo said. “No more.”

He ordered executive agencies to treat so-called “contact guidelines” on Taiwan previously issued by the State Department as null and void.

The United States does not have a formal diplomatic relationship with Taiwan, but maintains unofficial ties with the self-ruled island under the Taiwan Relations Act (TRA) 1979.

The TRA authorizes the United States to provide the island with military equipment for its self-defense, and set up a nonprofit corporation called the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), which is now the de-facto U.S. embassy on the island.

Pompeo also ordered that the executive branch’s relations with Taiwan are to be exclusively handled by AIT.

“Today’s statement recognizes that the U.S.-Taiwan relationship need not, and should not, be shackled by self-imposed restrictions of our permanent bureaucracy,” he said.

The Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office, the island’s de-facto embassy in the United States, welcomed to action, saying it reflected the “strength and depth” of the relationship.

“We look forward to broadening the Taiwan-U.S. partnership in the months and years ahead,” it said in a statement.

The United States has deepened its relationship with Taiwan during the Trump administration. Last year, it approved several large arms sales to Taiwan and increased engagements with the island.

Pompeo in a Jan. 7 tweet said: “We’ve stood by our friends in Taiwan. Over the past 3 years, the Trump Administration authorized more than $15 billion in arms sales to Taiwan. The Obama Administration? $14 billion dollars in sales over 8 years.”

American arms are vital to Taiwan in the face of escalating tension in the region. According to Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense, Chinese jets violated Taiwan’s air space about 380 times in 2020 and have continued to carry out such incursions at least 6 times in 2021.

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Kelly Craft will also visit Taiwan for three days next week, becoming the third senior U.S. official to visit the island in less than six months.

Chinese Regime Introduces New Commerce Rules In Retaliation Against US Sanctions
    BY FRANK FANG
    January 10, 2021
    https://www.theepochtimes.com/chines...s_3650633.html

"China’s Ministry of Commerce issued new rules on Jan. 9 in a bid to counter sanctions and restrictions imposed by foreign governments against Chinese companies and individuals.

According to an order on “unjustified” foreign legislation published on the Ministry’s website, it instructs Chinese entities to report within 30 days if they are affected by foreign laws that “improperly prohibit or restrict” Chinese citizens, companies, and organizations from conducting “normal economic, trade, and related activities with a third state or its citizens.”

The commerce ministry will then determine whether the legislation impacts China’s “national sovereignty, security, and development interests.”

If the foreign law is determined to be “unjustified,” China’s State Council can issue an injunction against “recognition, enforcement, and compliance” with the foreign laws.

In addition, Chinese individuals and entities that suffer “significant losses” for non-compliance with foreign laws are entitled to receiving “necessary support” from Chinese authorities, according to the order.

The order also states that Beijing may “take necessary counter-measures” in response to such foreign laws.

Chinese individuals or entities that either fail to “truthfully report” how they face foreign restrictions in doing business or comply with foreign laws despite the injunction could be fined, according to the new rules.

While the order did not name any specific foreign country, Chinese state media were quick to name the United States.

On Saturday, China’s hawkish state-run media Global Times published an article saying that the new order was Beijing’s “legal self-defense against notably the U.S. bullying of China.”

It added that U.S. sanctions on Chinese officials over the erosion of freedoms in Hong Kong and placing Chinese companies on a trade blacklist were Trump’s “bullying acts.”

On Sunday, the commerce ministry published the transcript of a media Q&A session involving an unnamed ministry official. That official said the new rules were introduced in response to an unnamed “country,” that promoted “unitarianism” and “prohibited economic exchanges between [Chinese] citizens with relevant countries.”

The Chinese regime has frequently accused the Trump administration of “unitarianism,” especially during the 2018–2019 trade war.

The U.S. Commerce Department did not respond to a request for comment by press time.

In August last year, the Trump administration blacklisted 11 Hong Kong and Chinese officials, among them Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam, for their roles in implementing Beijing’s draconian national security law, which punishes vaguely-defined crimes such as subversion and secession with a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.

Four months later, 14 more officials within China’s rubber-stamp legislature who were involved in implementing the law were also hit with U.S. sanctions.

Last week, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo warned that the U.S. might impose more sanctions on individuals and entities responsible for the recent arrests of 53 Hong Kong activists, former lawmakers, and politicians.

They were arrested for their involvement in a primary vote in July last year to determine which pro-democracy candidates would run in Legislative Council (LegCo) elections. That vote is now said to constitute “subverting state power” under the national security law.

In November last year, President Donald Trump issued an order (pdf) banning U.S. investments in Chinese companies designated by the Pentagon as having ties to the Chinese military, citing threats to the U.S. national security.

Some of the well-known Chinese companies blacklisted under the Trump administration included Chinese tech giant Huawei and 152 of its affiliates, semiconductor chipmaker SMIC, surveillance camera maker Hikvision, and drone manufacturer DJI.

Chen I-hsin, professor emeritus of the Department of Diplomacy and International Relations at Taiwan’s Tamkang University, told Taiwanese daily newspaper China Times that China’s new rules were a warning to President-elect Joe Biden that he should not follow Trump’s footsteps in sanctioning Chinese entities.

Chen said because the Chinese rules won’t have jurisdiction in the United States, their impact will be limited. But Beijing may resort to its usual tactics of sanctioning U.S. officials or denying Americans visas as retaliation."

'Coal to Gas' Campaign Is Freezing Chinese People | Historic Cold Wave Hit China (12:09)
In the last few days of 2020, China faced the most powerful cold wave in history. Within a day, the temperature in some parts of northern China fell more than 10-degrees Celsius.

But in such a cold situation, local governments in Shanxi Province have disregarded the lives of hundreds of thousands of people and confiscated their stoves, coal and firewood with large machines through violent law enforcement, in the so-called "three zeros" coal ban campaign.

The cold wave came less than 2 weeks after the coal ban on Australia, and has led to a significant increase in electricity consumption in most areas in China, and the authority has to implement "power restrictions" with rotational power supply at different times of a day, including in Shanghai, the country's busiest city.

In Dark Journalist's talk with Dr. Joseph Farrell here:

...various subjects are discussed, but about halfway through, they talk about Biden and his connection with the CCP, and also about advanced technology capable of weather manipulation, including the possibility that the floods in China have been caused by that, which certainly seems likely.
I don't know if anyone has been tracking HAARP signals showing up over China on weather maps, but that would be very interesting research!

Mass Rape, Sexual Abuse: Communist China’s Genocidal Tool to Eliminate Faith
BY JOCELYN NEO March 8, 2021
    https://www.theepochtimes.com/mass-r...g-2021-03-08-4

"Regardless of their ages, the CCP is persecuting spiritual believers of all faiths under the disguise of 're-educating' them.
BY JOCELYN NEO March 8, 2021 Updated: March 8, 2021biggersmaller Print
As the world is celebrating International Women’s Day, let’s not forget the horrifying abuses that mothers and sisters, and even grandmothers, are subjected to in the land of communist China.

Since the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) came to power in 1949, it has been employing unethical ways to persecute citizens and suppress spiritual groups. Recently, several reports have confirmed how the CCP is using sexual abuse as a tool for re-educating and transforming prisoners of faith, regardless of their age.

Rooted in atheism and materialism, the communist regime has been brutally suppressing Uyghur Muslims, Christians, Buddhists, and Falun Gong practitioners for years. Those who refuse to comply with the CCP’s orders are detained and taken to secretive “re-education camps” where they are subjected to unimaginable abuses, including gang rape and electrocution.

Rape has become a culture. It is gang rape and the Chinese police not only rape them but also electrocute them. They are subject to horrific torture.
    — ANONYMOUS POLICEWOMAN FROM A CAMP IN XINJIANG, CHINA

    Sexual Abuse of Uyghurs
To condemn the CCP’s grave human rights violations, the Trump-era administration said on Jan. 19, 2021, that the communist regime has committed “genocide” and “crimes against humanity” in its repression of the Uyghurs Muslims.

The then-U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said in a statement that the CCP has incarcerated over a million Uyghurs, subjecting them to forced labor, forced sterilizations, and torture.

“After careful examination of the available facts, I have determined that the PRC [People’s Republic of China], under the direction and control of the CCP, has committed genocide against the predominantly Muslim Uyghurs and other ethnic and religious minority groups in Xinjiang,” Pompeo said. He added, “I believe this genocide is ongoing, and that we are witnessing the systematic attempt to destroy Uyghurs by the Chinese party-state.”

Two weeks later, the BBC published a detailed report on the systematic sexual torture happening in Xinjiang’s tightly-guarded re-education network. The report that is based on first-hand interviews of several Uyghurs who were previously detained in the internment camps revealed the torture and gang-rape horrors they witnessed or lived through.

Tursunay Ziawudun, 42, who fled to the United States after escaping from Xinjiang following her release, recounted to the BBC the sexual abuses she underwent and witnessed while detained for nine months in China’s secretive camps in Xinjiang.

Ziawudun, who is married to a Kazakh and had returned to Xinjiang for work in 2016 after staying in Kazakhstan for five years, detailed how she was shocked with an electric baton and “gang-raped on three occasions,” the BBC reported.

“The woman took me to the room next to where the other girl had been taken in,” Ziawudun told the BBC. “They had an electric stick, I didn’t know what it was, and it was pushed inside my genital tract, torturing me with an electric shock.”

“They don’t only rape but also bite all over your body, you don’t know if they are human or animal,” she said. “They didn’t spare any part of the body, they bit everywhere leaving horrible marks. It was disgusting to look at. […] And it is not just one person who torments you, not just one predator. Each time they were two or three men.”

Talking to Fox News, Ziawudun said: “Any woman under 40 was raped. Every one in the camp experienced this … I was also beaten—I was kicked and stamped on—once so much on my private parts that I was bleeding, and I since had to have my ovaries removed.”

The BBC report said that even the elderly women detainees were not spared. Ziawudun recalled seeing an elderly Uyghur woman being humiliated.

“They stripped everything off the elderly lady, leaving her with just her underwear. She was so embarrassed that she tried to cover herself with her arms,” Ziawudun told BBC. “I cried so much watching the way they treated her. Her tears fell like rain.”

Ziawuden’s claims were backed by Qelbinur Sedik, an Uzbek woman from Xinjiang who was coerced to teach the Chinese language to the internment-camp detainees. Sedik told the BBC that a camp policewoman confirmed, after Sedik once secretly asked her, that sexual abuse is indeed happening in the camps.

“Yes, the rape has become a culture. It is gang rape and the Chinese police not only rape them but also electrocute them. They are subject to horrific torture,” Sedik recalled the policewoman’s words.

Gulzira Auelkhan, another Kazakh woman from Xinjiang who was forced to help the camp guards by stripping women, also confirmed to the BBC that gang rape is common in the camps.

“They forced me to take off those women’s clothes and to restrain their hands and leave the room,” Auelkhan said. “You can’t tell anyone what happened … It is designed to destroy everyone’s spirit.”

In the recent past, several previously detained Uyghurs had also described similar harrowing tales of torture and rape from the Xinjiang camps.

Gulbakhar Jalilova, an Uyghur and Kazakhstan national who was detained in 2017 for 15 months in an all-female camp, told The Epoch Times that rape happened on a daily basis in the camps. “Young girls are taken out and raped all night long. If you keep resisting, they will inject you with something and kill you,” Jalilova said.

In 2019, Sayragul Sauytbay of Kazakh descent, who was forced to teach the Chinese language in the camp, told Haaretz, an Israeli newspaper, that she once witnessed a female detainee being raped by policemen, “one after the other,” in front of 200 inmates. The incident left Sauytbay traumatized.

“While they were raping her they checked to see how we were reacting,” Sauytbay told Haaretz. “People who turned their head or closed their eyes, and those who looked angry or shocked, were taken away and we never saw them again. It was awful.

“I will never forget the feeling of helplessness, of not being able to help her. After that happened, it was hard for me to sleep at night.”

Sexual Abuse of Other Spiritual Believers
Apart from targeting Uyghur Muslims, the CCP also employs such horrendous torture methods on Falun Gong practitioners, Buddhists, and Christians.

Female adherents of Falun Gong are routinely subjected to sexual abuse and rape for not renouncing their faith. Falun Gong (or Falun Dafa) is a spiritual meditation discipline based on the principles of truthfulness, compassion, tolerance; it is freely practiced by over 100 million people worldwide but is being violently persecuted in China, and has been since July 1999.

    Reenactment of sexual torture.

Detailing the torture and routine sexual abuse faced by Falun Gong practitioners, a two-part report (warning: article contains graphic content) has been compiled by Minghui.org, a U.S.-based website dedicated to documenting the persecution of Falun Gong.

At the notorious Masanjia Forced Labor Camp in Shenyang, Liaoning Province, 18 female practitioners were thrown into the men’s cells and the guards encouraged the inmates to rape the spiritual adherents, Minghui.org reported. The elderly or young, no one was exempted from these abuses.

In 2001, Zou Jin, 70, of Changsha City, Hunan Province, was gang-raped at the Changsha City First Detention Center and sentenced to nine years before she passed away. A 9-year-old girl, who was the orphan child of a Falun Gong practitioner, was gang-raped at the Changping Mental Hospital in Beijing in 2002. “Her screams and cries were heart-wrenching,” the Minghui.org report said.

The report said the authorities also forced pregnant practitioners to abort their unborn babies, beating and shocking them with electric batons which eventually lead to miscarriage.

The CCP hasn’t shown any leniency in abusing Buddhist nuns or Christians either.

The Tibetan Center for Human Rights and Democracy has reported on the personal account of an anonymous Tibetan monk who was detained for four months in a re-education center, in Sog County, Tibet Autonomous Region, in 2017. The monk recounted seeing nuns being sexually abused after participating in military drills.

“Many nuns would lose consciousness during the [military] drills,” the monk wrote. “Sometimes officers would take unconscious nuns inside where I saw them … grope all over their body.”

“Who knows what else they did to the nuns?” the monk wrote.

Citing the sexual abuse account of a Chinese Christian, the editor-in-chief of the Bitter Winter magazine, Massimo Introvigne, wrote that Jiang Guizhi, a member of The Church of Almighty God in China, was raped by policemen and later died after the severe torture.

In 2019, the Association for the Defense of Human Rights and Religious Freedom (ADHRRF) reported a more detailed account of the torture experienced by Jiang. After being repeatedly asked by a cellmate, Jiang revealed that “the police had taken her to a private room in a hotel where she was interrogated, raped, and had objects stuffed inside her vagina,” the ADHRRF reported.

Arshdeep Sarao contributed to this report."

I lived in Boise and Eagle for 10 years before moving to China in 2006, so now have been in China on and off (when not traveling in S.E Asia) for almost 14 years. I love it here and really get frustrated by all the negative media regarding the country. Anyways good to see people showing the positive side of life here. Recently I started recording vlogs in order to showcase a more positive perspective of the country and the wonderfully friendly people that is the real China. Thanks for sharing.

Finally someone’s speaking the truth of China on western media. Well done ! 👍
