Default The Human LIVING Condition [Images of where humans live].

Dichotomies of life in this first set, mostly slums juxtapositioned against wealthier areas.
What percentage of the world's population live in poverty, rhetorical.

Feel free to post all forms of homes, from the inspiring to the appalling, the bizarre to the mundane, the igloo to the grass hut.

    CAPE TOWN

    Jo'burg

    Dharavi, Mumbai

    Filipines

    Kowloon, HK

    Lagos
Aerial photos of this region show the slum is built on low lying waters.

    Osaka

    Iran
This is not a slum but a village, other images of Sar-aqa-Seyyed show it is surrounded by nature.

    Favela, Rio

To quote the late George Harrison of the Beatles: “All it takes is loot.”

Which begs many questions about all the factors and forces that come into play to enable one, if one is thusly inclined or destined, to get loot.

But is acquiring loot what it is really all about? I think not.

Some people become neurotic when they content themselves with inadequate or wrong answers to the question of life. They seek position, marriage, reputation, outward success or money and remain unhappy or neurotic even when they have attained what they have been seeking. Such people are confined usually within too narrow a spiritual horizon. Their life has not sufficient content, sufficient meaning. If they enable their soul to develop into a more spacious personality their frustration, and neurosis generally will vanish. That is why personal development not confined to any narrow pathway brings fulfillment.

Loot can be wonderful and should be seen as something to be used to further expand your horizons especially if you broaden your views to be inclusive. The wealthy are too easy a target when society seeks fairness. Society must be careful because they may get what they desire. Life is not meant to be fair it is meant to be understood and acted upon.

In an effort not to derail this interesting thread I won't respond to the issue of money again on this post.

I visited this place a few years ago, I don't think it is ugly at all. Interesting to note that the downpipes from gutters are just chains hanging over a barrel. Works very effectively, I later used a plastic chain from my greenhouse roof in similar fashion.

My favourite novel is The Lord of the Rings, and has been since I was 12. Read it maybe a dozen times. If I was to choose one book to be stranded on a deserted with or an alien planet, it would be this one.

I know it's fantasy, but if I could choose a new world to live in and a new life, I'd be very happy with a hobbit-hole.

A tiny house (see this great thread! Tiny Houses) that's my own closest neighbor here in Ecuador. A very friendly woman is often there with her four small dogs, but I don't actually think she lives there 24/7.

Another neighbor lives in a tiny house I should take a photo of and post as well. It looks like a mudwall barn, and has no windows. The woman there is a single mother with 6 (six!) children, who are also always friendly and cheerful. A Spanish-speaking friend of mine visited there once, and reported that inside it was immaculate.

Moral of the story (maybe): wealth and opulence doesn't always equate to happiness, or the other way round.

As promised, here's a photo. Not a very good one, but you get the idea. No windows, 6 children. Not only immaculately tidy (apparently!), but also super-warm and cozy.
