Particularly when it's making a powerful point or uttering a profound truth. George Carlin was great at that. The humor protects the truth so it's spikiness doesn't offend or cause ideological triggers. So it acts as an effective delivery mechanism that way.
Well said that, loved George Carlin. Another one of my faves these days is Bill Burr. Absolute gold.
It's totally true though, humour is arguably the most effective delivery mechanism for a nugget of truth. Humour is the great appeaser you see, it tickles the cerebral cortex, floods the neural pathways with dopamine, and the while the brain is occupied taking its pleasure the truth squeezes in like a trojan horse.
In fighting the 'war on consciousness', one of the most important devices we have at our disposal right now is the
Meme (which is why I copied your quote here as it's most pertinent to this thread).
A remarkable human invention, the meme. Never before has so much power been wrapped in so small a package. I call attention especially to those memes that convey humour. Humour is that vital tether that keeps people connected to their humanity. Add a few bombs of truth into the mix, it keeps them grounded and from falling prey to upside-down world.
And what is that? Well, what happens when almost every 'societal norm' gets tipped on its head, when natural human instinct, intuition, and inclination gets warped, scrambled and mutilated? An upside-down world where virtues have been redefined, and universal values inverted: literally
1984.
That's where wokeism is leading us. It is designed to soften patterns of thought and encourage increasing levels of tolerance for ever-increasing forms of degenerate behaviour which, years ago, would never,
ever have washed.
In fighting wokeism and the general lunacy, hypocrisy, and toxicity of modern times, memes really are the front-line cannon, firing truth and laying down mushroom clouds of laughter.

Unfortunately not always. To these far left zombies, humour is by itself offensive - except when it
isn't offensive. The problem then is, it's often no longer funny!
So they
cancelled humour. In doing so they disarmed themselves. They have no ammo to fire back with, thus:
"the left can't meme" meme. Because their brains cannot parse humour, the truth doesn't bed in. This results in a "does not compute" malfunction, which can only manifest in screaming, thrashing, and seething (which of course becomes just
more fuel for
more memes).
All one can do is keep firing away until one breaks through the wall.
Here's a daily dose of truth mixed in with humour. In a way, it's a test: if you laugh, you're still with us, you're still human!
