Default Our most poignant songs for 2020: Let's share!

    Hi all

I've been meaning to start a thread about songs that have had the most significant impact on me, since just after the start of lockdown. Songs of joy, fear, defiance, sadness, hope. Songs that make me want to dance. Songs that have caused me to weep. All of it.

I'd love this thread to be a place where we can all share together, and honour our unique selves, through the music that has touched us through these unprecedented times.

I feel it would be great to post the video of the song, with a transcript of the lyrics, and what the song REALLY and TRULY meant to you, in a way that comes from the heart centre.

I'm really looking forward to hearing folk's offerings.

    Love to you all.

"That's great, it starts with an earthquake
    Birds and snakes, and aeroplanes
And Lenny Bruce is not afraid
Eye of a hurricane, listen to yourself churn
    World serves its own needs
    Don't mis-serve your own needs
Speed it up a notch, speed, grunt, no, strength
    The ladder starts to clatter
With a fear of height, down, height
Wire in a fire, represent the seven games
And a government for hire and a combat site
Left her, wasn't coming in a hurry
With the Furies breathing down your neck
Team by team, reporters baffled, trumped, tethered, cropped
Look at that low plane, fine, then
Uh oh, overflow, population, common group
But it'll do, save yourself, serve yourself
World serves its own needs, listen to your heart bleed
Tell me with the Rapture and the reverent in the…

It's the end of the world as we know it
It's the end of the world as we know it
It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine
Six o'clock, T.V. hour, don't get caught in foreign tower
Slash and burn, return, listen to yourself churn
Lock him in uniform, book burning, bloodletting
    Every motive escalate, automotive incinerate
Light a candle, light a motive, step down, step down
Watch your heel crush, crush, uh oh
This means no fear, cavalier, renegade and steering clear
A tournament, a tournament, a tournament of lies
Offer me solutions, offer me alternatives and I decline
It's the end of the world as we know it (I had some time alone)
It's the end of the world as we know it (I had some time alone)
It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine (time I had some time alone)
I feel fine (I feel fine)
It's the end of the world as we know it (time I had some time alone)
It's the end of the world as we know it (time I had some time alone)
It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine (time I had some time alone)
The other night I drifted nice continental drift divide
Mountains sit in a line, Leonard Bernstein
Leonid Brezhnev, Lenny Bruce and Lester Bangs
    Birthday party, cheesecake, jellybean, boom
You symbiotic, patriotic, slam but neck, right, right
It's the end of the world as we know it (time I had some time alone)
It's the end of the world as we know it (time I had some time alone)
It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine (time I had some time alone)
It's the end of the world as we know it
It's the end of the world as we know it
It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine (time I had some time alone)
It's the end of the world as we know it (time I had some time alone)
It's the end of the world as we know it (time I had some time alone)
It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine (time I had some time alone)
It's the end of the world"

On the second day of lockdown here in Glasgow, it was a beautiful sunny day, all was still and quiet, apart from birdsong, the likes of which I'd not heard in a built up area like mine before.

My heart was full of joy, and intuitively felt to put this song on, which I'd not listened to in over 20 years.

It encapsulated my feelings of relief and joy, that the world which had so ground me down, had suddenly been put on pause, and the sense that a new world was birthing.

I had such a strong sense of like, 'THIS is what I've been waiting for all these years'.

I played it on repeat for a while, loudly and singing along, with my windows wide open.

    Gajuumaru by Yaima.

This song encapsulates for me, the knowingness that I'm an eternal soul, on my own individual journey, and by conecting to my hearts centre, all is well and as it should be. It reaffirms to me never to be afraid to stand in my own truth, no matter what others think, and how lonely it can feel at times.

A wonderful celebration and acknowledgment of reconnecting with our highest potential.

    "[Intro]
(ohhh, ohhh woho, ohhh, ohhh woho)

    [Verse 1]
Creating concrete visions of a microcosmic prism with a brilliant optimism and appropriate ambition
To be open from the center redirected to the moment
This is it love, this is it love, unrestrainable nature
We can change it from the edges, we can challenge all our borders
There is always a new leader, there is always a new order
Our pathway is proceeding and the way is always changing
We are free from what prevents us to realise our destination
(ohhh, ohhh woho, ohhh, ohhh woho)

    [Refrain]
Free, from all old stories i've been told, I walk through the valley of my own shadow
Free, from all old stories i've been told, I walk through the valley of my own shadow

    [Verse 2]
Oh when this is my virtue and i'm grateful for the search to
Dive deep within my own mind and to trust the intuition of the lives i've lived before this are essential form of knowsis it's a simple form of freedom it's as smooth as inhalation, oh the exhale is releasing all the tension i've been feeling, on the surface and beneath me i'm connecting to my spirit, and i'm here now right before you, I am present in this moment, my live's work is to honour the great beauty all around you
(ohhh, ohhh woho, ohhh, ohhh woho)

    [Refrain]
Free from all old stories i've been told, I walk through the valley of my own shadow
Free from all old stories i've been told, I walk through the valley of my own shadow"

Not an exact quote from a band member about the meaning of the song..." no matter what we are going through the answer always lies within."

For me, the song has great energy and gives me the feeling of inner strength to fight back.

With many songs, you might hear the lyrics wrong and totally miss the meaning that the band had for writing it. What's the best about a song that you like is what it means to you and how it makes you feel.

4 days Meeradas since you posted that video. No one knows how to follow it !. I was going to post something here and abandoned it just to watch and listen to the sound of that video 3 times.

I can't follow that, but I can bump it.
Matisyahu - One Day (Official Video)

"One day this all will change."
3000 people, three languages, and one Haifa all singing Koolulam and hoping that the 'One Day' is near…

One day (one day), One day (one day)
One day (one day), One day (one day)
One day (one day), One day (one day)

    Sometimes I lay
    Under the moon
    And thank God I'm breathing
    Then I pray
    Don't take me soon
'Cause I am here for a reason

Sometimes in my tears I drown
But I never let it get me down
    So when negativity surrounds
I know some day it'll all turn around because...

All my life I've been waiting for
    I've been praying for
    For the people to say
That we don't wanna fight no more
There will be no more wars
    And our children will play

One day (one day), One day (one day)
One day (one day), One day (one day)
One day (one day), One day (one day)

    It's not about
    Win or lose
    'Cause we all lose
When they feed on the souls of the innocent
    Blood-drenched pavement
Keep on moving though the waters stay raging

In this maze you can lose your way (your way)
It might drive you crazy but don't let it faze you, no way (no way)
Sometimes in my tears I drown (I drown)
But I never let it get me down (get me down)

    So when negativity surrounds (surrounds)
I know some day it'll all turn around because...
All my life I've been waiting for
    I've been praying for
    For the people to say
That we don't wanna fight no more

One day (one day), One day (one day)
One day (one day), One day (one day)
One day (one day), One day (one day)

One day this all will change
    Treat people the same
    Stop with the violence
    Down with the hate

One day this all will change
    Treat people the same
    Stop with the violence
    Down with the hate
One day we'll all be free
    And proud to be
    Under the same sun
    Singing songs of freedom like

One day (one day), One day (one day)
One day (one day), One day (one day)

All my life I've been waiting for

When this Dylan track came out around the start of the lockdown, I thought it was an omen for the weeks to come. I've had a person tell me it's a masterpiece but I don't think it's quite that, it's just strange and spooky that it popped up when it did.

'You don't stand a chance against my prayers, you don't stand a chance against my love.'
    'We shall live again'

    'Crow has brought the message
To the children of the sun
For the return of the buffalo
And for a better day to come
    You can kill my body
    You can damn my soul
For not believing in your god
    And some world down below
You don't stand a chance against my prayers
You don't stand a chance against my love
    They outlawed the Ghost Dance
    They outlawed the Ghost Dance
But we shall live again, we shall live again

    My sister above
    She has red paint
    She died at Wounded Knee
    Like a later day saint
You got the big drum in the distance
    The blackbird's in the sky
That's the sound that you hear
    When the buffalo cry
You don't stand a chance against my prayers
You don't stand a chance against my love
    They outlawed the Ghost Dance
    They outlawed the Ghost Dance
But we shall live again, we shall live again
    We shall live again
    Crazy Horse was a mystic
He knew the secret of the trance
And Sitting Bull the great apostle
    Of the Ghost Dance

    Come on Comanche
    Come on Blackfoot
    Come on Shoshone
    Come on Cheyenne
    We shall live again
    We shall live again
    Come on Arapaho
    Come on Cherokee
    Come on Paiute
    Come on Sioux
    We shall live again
You used to do the Ghost Dance
You used to do the Ghost Dance
You don't sing them kinda songs no more'

This one is 'dead-on' for me!

    Lyrics video:

    Live version in a church:

    Lyrics:

    Close your eyes and sleep
Ignore all the burdens that you keep
    Come whatever may
They could never harm you anyway

    Stirrings in the wind
    Resonates a whisper from within
    Warnings from afar
Telling you to heed the morning star

    Waking from the dream
Witnessing the smoke that's rolling in
The end is what you fear
The scent of embers lingers in the air

It's like a web there is no escape from
It's got you trapped and you long for freedom
Every wish every dream was granted
    Never knowing what they demanded
You see the wall how it's getting higher
You want to fight but you're all divided
It's not a world anyone could thrive in
Is this the world we were meant to grow in?
Somebody tell me where are we going?

A brave new world will rise
If we do not act upon its lies
    Hold your tongues no more
Learn from all the ones who came before

Catch the wind and fight the storm
Through the fury we're holding on
Take your time but not too long
Make it worth the time you own

You woke a fire inside of me
Fanned the flame and made it breathe
You woke a fire inside of me
    Inside of me
    Inside of me

Since 1988 all through the 90ies I must have been the greatest REM fan around. Loved them to bits. Still do of course.
