    Default Ghost Stories

(Mods: Not sure this is the right sub-forum for the topic, move as necessary.)

I couldn't find another thread that is simply a collection of experiences or anecdotes about ghostly happenings. I know there are plenty stories on this forum, often buried in the middle of 3hr podcasts. :grimace:

wegge started this thread featuring a young rapper that is, or seems to be, specialising in political observation and social commentary in a modern but pretty grounded way. The last time I heard someone like this was Billy Bragg.

Anyway, I was so taken with his lyrics that I ended up looking for him on Youtube myself. Lo and behold he had uploaded this..

Not only is he a good lyricist and musician he is a good story teller with a sense of the theatrical. I learned about a town in the Canada called Tranquille

Now I have no idea if the story is true, that problem exists with any ghost story, but I have no reason to doubt his experience either.

Please add to this thread with ghost stories only, no cryptoid or alien overlaps unless they are very directly related.

    ------

Re: The 3hr podcasts, if you must post one please link to the timestamp where the story begins. I remember one George Knapp episode, I forget the name of the actual show, where a US judge told of his encounter with a dogman when out for a late evening run.

(Hmm, dogman would be cryptoid? Ok, rules aren't set in stone. Always a fan of peaceful anarchy.)

Ok, I haven't finished the video - but this guy is a good story teller - I am sitting here by myself laughing! A must see!

Ah, I should have left when I was laughing because it reminded me of stuff I don't need to remember. So, if like me you would rather not be reminded of something, just watch about 2/3rds through.

Thank you I really enjoyed it. Ghosts seem to elude me, but I frequently seem to "see" shadows off the corner of my eye, sometimes tall as a person or small like one foot tall. The only time I believe I felt the presence of my mother( She had recently passed) was when I got very sick from the flu was in bed and clearly felt someone leaning on my bed, instantly opened my eyes, no one there, but I felt her, I knew it was her, and I felt comforted. My mother on the other hand, was very sensitive to those energies, poor her, she used to get nervous about it.

Thanks for starting this thread Ewan!

I was thinking about this BBC 40 Minutes documentary a week or so ago, and it popped up in my YT feed... It's a selection of paranormal stories from the North of England made in 1989 and I particularly remember it from the haunting Michel Legrand music from the score to The Go-Between. There is a man interviewed with a broad Northumbrian accent, it might be hard to make out if you're not used to it!

The postscript to the RAF story sent shivers up my spine...

As it says on the tin - 40 minutes long.

The YouTube site "It's a Miracle", produced in many episodes in the 1990 era puts most interventions in life-saving situations down to angels, but some of those persons involved report the appearance of dead family members.

This documentary Ghosts on the Underground, made for Channel 5 in Britain, is worthy of a mention. Just as documentaries are supposed to be it's balanced, no hysterics, no fame-junkie presenter, just people recounting their experiences and soberly narrated. (47 minutes long.)

And thank you for that offering. Very good! As you say, ordinary people recounting their experiences.

Earlier today I had been listening to David Paullides sharing a letter from a shaman practioner who suggested that 'entities' with a negative core were pushed out to remote areas, away from human habitation. I guess that might apply vertically too?

That's a fascinating topic; underground is a liminal place, somewhere that we're not supposed to be - and where most of the dead end up. It's suggested that the many fogous that are found in Cornwall could have been used for some sort of rite of passage ritual; though acacemics label a lot of things they don't understand as 'ritual' and they could have just been for food storage!

It's been pointed out that the construction of London's underground rail tunnels disturbed many old burials.

You need a good ghost story for Christmas...

This afternoon I came across this one made by LWT (which was part of ITV) from 2000, a collection of creepy ghost stories from England. Very well done with an aptly spooky atmosphere!

Once, some few years after my grand father died, i went to sleep and then 'woke up' in a small town, houses made out of wood and so. And somehow i knew the streets and went into a small house, there inside were my grand parents. I saw them and ran to them to hug them, i noticed my grand ma looked very young and said it so. She said "Do i?" and laughed hard and happy about my words

Then i heard that there was some kind of party going on in the next room, there was only one door to go into that next room and i started walking towards it, i wanted to see who was having such a great time Then my grand father moved quickly and stopped me from going through the door. He said "You can't go in there yet". And i asked why and he just said "you can't and you must leave now" very harsh and direct way. I felt rejected and sad but then somehow he just walked me out of the house and into the street and then i felt ok again and walked back into the central park of town and then "woke up" here once more

The streets were made out of rocks, the houses were made out of wood, the air was so refreshing and clean, and it smelled like flowers all over, it was very green

Quote somewhere that we're not supposed to be - and where most of the dead end up
I wasn't supposed to be there, i was not allowed in fact, i made it through somehow but only lasted a little bit and then i was yeeted away from it all

Most Terrifying Interview I've Ever Done

Not strictly a ghost story, but it really gave me the willies, such that I've been creeped out ever since watching it. There's no doubt that the guy is a great story teller, but at the same time it sounds so authentic. And yet . . .

Here's a link to the What lurks beneath channel on YT, where there are other similar stories. The Urban Myth has upped its game for sure.

Just enjoying a chill-out afternoon whilst recovering from a bad cold... this is from the excellent 30 year old Strange But True series that was our compulsive viewing back in the day, the very creepy Stocksbridge Bypass episode always sticks in my mind. This is the 10 minute section covering Stocksbridge with encounters that even freaked out two policemen.

I was once at a work-related residential at a lovely old house (now a hotel) just a few miles away from Stocksbridge bypass; a really lovely setting, but the energies of the land felt dark and creepy, I didn't even realise then how close I was from Stocksbridge as I had come from the other direction.
