Default Diego Maradona Dead Today At 60 — 25 Nov 2020

    https://www.yahoo.com/sports/world-c...165302831.html

I was a little emotionally shook but not shocked to just learn of the passing of my biggest sporting hero, Diego Maradona.

He was just recovering from what was reported as successful brain surgery, so the news caught me off guard a little. But he's been fighting drug and alcohol addiction for 30 plus years now, so his passing is not too surprising.

Oddly enough I had just posted one of his highlight videos here several days ago, and Patient and I exchanged some nostalgic soccer stories of our youth.

Maradona was a soccer genius - for those that don't know - an iconoclast, a national hero, a rags to riches story with a curve that frequently dwelled in conflict and controversy. Despite his faults and foibles, he was almost universally loved for his footballing genius and uncompromising attitude.

As a boy, my bedroom walls were covered wall to wall with Maradona posters. I can't even begin to explain the influence he had on me. To me, Maradona was far and away the best footballer of all time.

In the 1986 World Cup he scored what is widely recognized as the greatest goal of all time. Just skip ahead to the 17 second mark. I have no idea what the Spanish commentator is saying, but it's one of the best calls of all time. Enjoy:

    R.I.P. Diego

RIP Dieguito Maradona, truly great soccer player of all times, it is a pity he got involved in so many troubles, but he was an undeniable soccer genius, I have no idea how he was able to run the entire soccer pitch and play a full match without getting tired.

Can you imagine if Maradona had the same professional work ethic as Christiano Ronaldo? He would have smashed every goal record and probably won 3-4 World Cups! He almost won a second one while taking drugs and booze every day! But the talent was out of this world indeed. RIP Maradona.

His death was predicted in May. He has had his health problems, but this was well before the blood clot he had in early November:

The answer is when will they do it. Lionel Messi is the Perfect Person to connect to Maradonas Sacrifice. The name Lionel has a very big connection to Donald Trump we will cover this in the Trump Decode.'

    Agreed

IMHO he was the greatest ever to grace a football pitch.

I have no idea what the Spanish commentator is saying, but it's one of the best calls of all time. Enjoy:

    R.I.P. Diego
He was was one of the best of all time. Not the best, because that determination, with any sport, in any sphere of activity, is very subjective. Perhaps the best in his position, as a forward, would be fair.

Admitting that somewhat sticks in my throat. In the UK he was not so dearly loved. Because he cheated. He cheated England very famously out of a place in the World Cup semi-finals in Mexico '86. It has since gone down in history as the Hand of God incident. Maradona did eventually admit that yes, he knew he had punched the ball into the net with his fist. That crucial goal stood.

I can still remember watching it in my mate's living room on that balmy summer's day, and the teeth-grinding, knuckle-clenching UPROAR that followed. Trust me, a veritable Mexican wave of uproar travelled up and down the country that afternoon..

    However, we forgive you Diego.

You may have broke the heart of nation that day, but you brought joy to millions. Rest in Peace.

As it happened from our point of view (UK broadcast):

"When the power of love overcomes the love of power the world will know peace."
