Default Amateur archaeologist believes he’s traced the Holy Grail to a ‘secret crypt’ under a river in Hounslow

AN amateur archaeologist believes he has located the Holy Grail — at a secret crypt under a river in Hounslow.

Barrie-Jon Bower, 40, is convinced the cup Jesus Christ drank from at the Last Supper has been hidden in suburban West London.

He has enlisted the help of the Environment Agency, which has agreed to divert the river so the bed can be surveyed with specialist equipment.

Today the would-be Indiana Jones was at the site doing preparatory work. He said of the mysterious goblet, sought after for more than 2,000 years: “When I find it, it’s going to be one of the greatest finds in history — the biggest discovery of mankind.

“Now I’ve been in the water it’s made me more certain. It feels hollow. It feels right. There’s something underneath. Why not Hounslow?”

Mr Bower, who is currently unemployed, has spent years studying the Grail’s links to the Knights Templar, an order of warrior monks.

He claims some trained on Hounslow Heath before their trips to the Holy Lands, and they built a secret crypt to hide relics seized in the Crusades.

Its entrance, he maintains, was later deliberately hidden near a weir at the man-made Duke of Northumberland’s River.

He has now invested £1,000 in hired specialist geophysical equipment to scour the ground once it is drained, hopefully early next year.

Mr Bower, of Cinderford, Gloucs, told The Sun: “Finally I am certain this is the right spot. I am certain there will be a vault beneath the surface, with the Grail inside and other treasures from the Crusades.

While this is an exciting idea, as a student of the "Holy Grail" for many years I doubt this. Much research has been done on this topic. Lawrence Gardner, for instance, states "the definition Holy Grail first appeared in the middle ages as a literary concept based on a series of scribal misinterpretations". Many others believed that this alluded to the blood of Christ or his bloodline. My own observations are as follow:
1/ If anyone thinks that it would look like that picture, it seems too ostentatious to be something Jesus would use. Looks like a cup that king Henry VIII, a Baron or perhaps a Legatus Legionis (Roman Legion Commander) would use. (Selling newspapers?)
2/ What actual historical sites are in the area? What actually led him to that site.
3/It is interesting to note that Leonardo da Vinci, an enigma himself, painted the last supper with no cup or grail.

    Thanks and praise.

I am not convinced either. Why would the Templars leave treasure after they survived and lived on ?

I think the answer of WHAT the Holy Grail really was or stood for (maybe not even a cup) could be 'found' in France of the middle ages. Once read this book and of course it is controversial but worth considering, if only for personal entertainment purposes because the truth we will never really know.

For who might be interested, a year ago, truth researcher 'Stoner' did a talk on the medieval France connection and the research done by the esoteric Nazis such as by Otto Rahn. Again, controversial but interesting.

Agreed that the article pic is over the top, that's just shoddy journalism. If anything a terracotta cup is more likely, if the grail is even an object. One to check back on in the new year.

The bounty nature, ever restorative, from which we sustain our existence here. I suspect this myth is much older than the ascribed Christian origin.
