    Default Problems with Parler?

What good is a social media company if the public cannot see what you post without also being a member?!

Who do they think they are? Facebook?!

Oh, the ironing, it will never be done.

But seriously, the interface runs with bugs and glitches galore, and you have to be a member to view posts. What else can it be, if not a half assed attempt to shuffle all the independently minded folk off into their own echo chamber, where no blue pilled feelings can be hurt?

    Thoughts?

Dunno - without an account, all I can do is shop. The only things they have to sell is their own overpriced merchandise.

I just started a MeWe account yesterday - a bit right wing, but at least the don't delete anything that doesn't fit with the "narrative" - in fact they welcome it.

As I posted elsewhere, along with your email address and password, you have to give them a cell phone number. I used an old one and I created a password that was 12 letters/symbols long. They said it wasn't 'safe enough' so I allowed my computer to generate a complex one. Again, Parler said it wasn't safe enough. So I went back to the 12 letters/symbols and added four more strokes. I managed to get in, but immediately got kicked off. When I tried to log on again I was instructed to create a new account.

I forgot that I had bookmarked accounts. You don't need to be logged on or have an account to view them. It does depend on how the member has their settings. It's similar to Instagram, Facebook and Avalon. You see more if you subscribe to their account.

I've added a few examples. The warroompandemic uploads YouTube video to their Parler account, but they just got kicked off YouTube a couple of hours ago. An alternative audio site is podbay.fm. This is the alternative link Bannon-war-room.

    ...and it's gone...

It seems they won't even let them have their echo chamber...

Quote Apple Has Threatened To Ban Parler From The App Store

The social networking app favored by conservatives has been given 24 hours to institute a moderation policy.

Apple has given Parler, the social network favored by conservatives and extremists, an ultimatum to implement a full moderation plan of its platform within the next 24 hours or face expulsion from the App store.

In an email sent this morning and obtained by BuzzFeed News, Apple wrote to Parler’s executives that there had been complaints that the service had been used to plan and coordinate the storming of the US Capitol by President Donald Trump’s supporters on Wednesday. The insurrection left five people dead, including a police officer.

"We have received numerous complaints regarding objectionable content in your Parler service, accusations that the Parler app was used to plan, coordinate, and facilitate the illegal activities in Washington D.C. on January 6, 2021 that led (among other things) to loss of life, numerous injuries, and the destruction of property,” Apple wrote to Parler. “The app also appears to continue to be used to plan and facilitate yet further illegal and dangerous activities.”

Thanks, Paula! This is a new functionality, I had an account on Parler for a while, and was unable to view anything while I was not logged in. I deleted that account, but I was able to follow the links you posted.

I still have a much better feeling about GAB as an alternative to the bigger social media companies. In part, this is because I have seen folks such as CodeMonkeyZ expressing their concerns over Parler security vs GAB.

I totally disagree with this post. If you don't agree with something or like something why spread so much more negativity in this world. Just don't use it. I use it and so do millions of others. It is the alternative news to the mainstream. It also allows others to access a different point of view.

Everyone should be very concerned. When the elite can shut down a site that disagrees with their agenda this is bad news for all sites including this one. People wake up. Just a matter of time before other sites are taken down including this one.

Use GAB instead, it's a far superior platform.

Everyone should agree, because between Speaking, MeWe, Gab ect, it is a freedom of choice and to express these opinions, without being repressed by YouTube, Twitter or Facebook. It's a good start and with every crisis something new takes place. These social networks are only the mirror of our own life. When we are faced with a change, our lifestyle changes, we meet new people, new things to discover after a move ... Because everything in this world begins with a beginning and ends with an end, it is one of the laws of nature ... nothing is eternal, even cathedrals, one day or another the erosion of time, a natural disaster or caused by a war. The eras follow one another and do not resemble each other, as the era of the covid will last how long ???

In psychology, the problem of speaking, should invite the author of this discussion to ask the question, which prevents him from speaking in his own personal story? Everything is a mirror of ourselves ... I am not yet registered on Parler and plan to do so soon ...

It is time for a CENTRAL free speech platform that all (of us and like us) use and is independet of the MSM and leftist Social Media (Fakebook Twatter YouPuke, etc.) - even internationally for all countries. That is the problem. There is no such thing in the future. In my country now many use Telegram. But that is still just one option of many (and it's just a messenger program actually with limits).

My over riding concern stems from what I perceived to be a lack of public viewability. If a group gathers en masse in a forum that is closed to the public, then the utility of free speech is sorely limited. I do not have a criticism for them on the basis of their ostensible commitment to free speech, indeed quite the contrary.

The danger lies in everyone shuffling off into the space where the debate is less public. We are not here to convince each other, and often are not even trying to convince our opponents. Rather, we take up the debate to convince the third parties who are standing by, listening to the debate.

I’m not a cell phone aficionado so I don’t understand the big deal that the app is no longer available. I’d just bookmark the parler.com site like you do with the computer. Though, I do understand the not so subtle coordinated efforts of the few to muzzle and control the many.

They're no longer trying to hide it.

They feel no need to hide it any longer, so confident they are that their social engineering efforts have been successful.

Legally, being private entities (Facebook, Twitter, Google, Apple), they have the right to censor or shut down anyone they don't want to hear. But, as has been fiercely debated over the past few years, taking advantage of that right--to the extent that it creates a noticeable bias--puts those social media companies at risk of being seen as publishers rather than platforms.

If they are designated as publishers--and, it's clear that they are--they should not be afforded the legal protections of Section 230.

It is true that if Section 230 is removed, social media sites will become more, not less, censured, but that may be what we have to accept to keep this controlling technology elites from running with a slanted narrative.
