Default The Net interprets censorship as damage and routes around it

    --

"The Net interprets censorship as damage and routes around it"
John Gilmore said this in TIME magazine in 1993

Silicon Valley is going to be playing whack-a-mole over the next few weeks as those in the "free" western systems learn what the Chinese citizens have had to learn when you have something important to say and how to avoid getting the knock at the door.

I think it would be a good idea to collect a list of censorship resistant platforms and also to implement stronger measures to ensure important data from being destroyed.

If a good list emerges I will update the opening post.

This is not meant to be a debate thread more of a resource thread.

If this was already done and I missed it, please can the mods just close this thread and reference the alternative.

I am still amazed that freedom of internet speech lasted as long as it has, frankly.

I just started an account with MeWe - a bit like Facebook except without any censorship. A bit "right" leaning (not by intention - it just ended up that way), but I'm giving it a shot for while and see how I like it. It's been cites as a "hotbed for conspiracy theories and misinformation" - cited by the people who control the narrative, I'm sure, lol. I'm just looking out for a decent FB alternative ... if any of you know of one, let me know. I prefer no ads, no selling of data, and I'd prefer a strong "center" whose base users are into networking and community building.

Two steps ahead, and you are deemed a crackpot.

Gab.com is thriving while everywhere else is being purged.

It took me 12 years to reach 80,000 followers on Twitter. I've gained over 115,000 followers on Gab in three days. I have a feeling that Twitter was throttling me.

Thanks Jayke for the reference to gab.com

I have updated my original post.

Please keep the suggestions coming and if possible, please the debate elsewhere.

If any of the sites I have mentioned are "silicon valley" sites with draconian content moderation policies and I didnt know about it, please let me know so I can remove them
