Default Trump pardons: is there a hidden reason?

    Hi guys,

I just wanted to open a discussion regarding the pardons that President Trump issued before Christmas, as it seems he is preparing to issue a new batch during his last day in office.

I especially wanted to know your opinion regarding:

    - the 4 Blackwater contractors responsible for the massacre in Nisour Square in 2017 that left 14 unarmed Iraqi civilians dead

    - the 3 corrupt former members of Congress

Do you have any insider information regarding these?

"The 15 pardons and five commutations were made public by the White House in a statement on Tuesday evening. They appeared in many cases to have bypassed the traditional Justice Department review process — more than half of the cases did not meet the department’s standards for consideration"

" U.S. President Donald Trump’s pardon of four American men convicted of killing Iraqi civilians while working as contractors in 2007 violated U.S. obligations under international law, U.N. human rights experts said on Wednesday.

Nicholas Slatten was convicted of first-degree murder, while Paul Slough, Evan Liberty and Dustin Heard were convicted of voluntary and attempted manslaughter, over the incident in which U.S. contractors opened fire in busy traffic in a Baghdad square and killed 14 unarmed Iraqi civilians."

"The three former members of Congress pardoned by Mr. Trump were Duncan D. Hunter of California, Chris Collins of New York and Steve Stockman of Texas.

Mr. Hunter was set to begin serving an 11-month sentence next month. He pleaded guilty in 2019 to one charge of misusing campaign funds.

Mr. Collins, an early supporter of Mr. Trump, had been serving a 26-month sentence after pleading guilty in 2019 to charges of making false statements to the F.B.I. and to conspiring to commit securities fraud.

Mr. Stockman was convicted in 2018 on charges of fraud and money laundering and had been serving a 10-year sentence."

Here is a full list of pardons with links to PDF files. https://www.justice.gov/pardon/pardo...t-donald-trump

I have often wondered whether or not Presidents should have this power. At the very least we should not allow them to pardon people in their final days in office. What they are doing is allowing people to go free that have such onerous convictions that it would be difficult for Presidents to govern once the public found out who was pardoned. Also, we saw Clinton release a convicted financier, Marc Rich and it is strongly suspected that Clinton received financial kickbacks for this pardon.

    Other Trump pardons of note:
I have to laugh because one of the pardons is for,  Susan B. Anthony for illegally voting. Why did it take 115 years to get this done?

Stone, Flynn, Papadopoulos, and Manafort were political convictions stemming from the Russian Collusion investigation so it was no surprise there.

Many of the pardons were actually commuted sentences or released for time served but there were quite a few serious crimes. It also appears that Trump consider racial injustices in his pardoning process. Crimes included murder, drug dealers, wire fraud, mail fraud, tax evasion, manslaughter, bank robbery etc.
