Default Artworks and Artists of Naturalism

The background regarding this wonderful artist is courtesy of The Public Domain Review
A painting by the American painter Martin Johnson Heade. In 1863, Heade, an aspiring naturalist, made the first of three trips to Brazil to paint the brilliantly colored hummingbird, creating at least forty-five canvases. Although Heade’s plan to publish an illustrated book on the birds was never realized, the artist’s fascination continued unabated. Beginning about 1871 and continuing for over thirty years, he painted a series of pictures that combined hummingbirds with living orchids, such as these. Drawing on his own earlier experience as a sometime-ornithologist, and using living orchids for the first time as a painter’s subject, Heade created a unique American genre.⠀

My mother is also a painter but somehow, the painting genes bypassed me
You're preaching to the choir. I'm related to Picasso and my mother is a phenomenal artist, this is how she pays the bills. That being said my hand writing looks like that of a 7 year old and I can't draw or paint if my life depended on it. I'm great at industrial painting, it's my day job, but I don't put that in the same category. I would like to learn pinstriping from my mother but it takes patience and frankly I don't care that much. I just want to learn it because it's very difficult and somewhat a dying art.

One day, not now, but one day:

I am artsy fartsy in my own right when it comes to designing automobiles but I think only a small percent of the population can appreciate this. Most car guys annoy me (they're cookie cutters). I suppose that's a part of being artsy fartsy?

I agree, Constance - I find Naturalistic artwork so inspiring! We used to live near Kew Gardens in London (in the days when it cost one penny to get in ) and I remember the first time I walked into the gallery where Marianne North's work is displayed. It totally blew my mind. She was a Victorian who broke so many conventions of that time, including travelling solo around the world, and painting plants in their natural setting. Quite a woman...

Of course, it's not entirely naturalistic. The fruits are all very European, the monkeys are not.

Perhaps it's a warning on the madness of fruitarianism!

Calvin Nicholls: Paper Sculpture by Design
Paper artist Calvin Nicholls transforms flat paper into highly detailed sculptures of wildlife and images of nature for wall display. Portfolio & More Examples

    Article with close up detail.
These paper sculptures by Ontario-based artist Calvin Nicholls will have you doubting that they’re just paper. Since the mid 80s, he’s been making work like this for advertising campaigns, private collectors, institutions, childrens books, corporate gift companies and galleries. Why all the white? He does that to emphasize the texture and form of each piece. After using a scalpel to assemble each sculpture, Nicholls captures the detail on 8×10 film with a large format camera, prior to scanning for print applications or art prints.

I'm not sure if this belongs here - this does represent a kind of realism art - this person crocheted a clone of herself and dog and its impressive:
