Also see this most interesting thread:
A disproportionate number of Avalon members are INFJs, and NFs in particular. (Sensitive, intuitive souls! ) There's a LOT about all this on that thread.

The Dark Side of INFJ - The World's Rarest Personality Type

"INFJ the rarest personality type in the world is known for its kind and gentle nature, but there’s an unexpected dark side of INFJ personality that’s less talked about. The Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is a great tool to learn more about your individual characteristics and tendencies. And since INFJs are often misunderstood, learning about their dark tendencies can especially prove to be helpful.

We all have our strengths and weaknesses, and the INFJ type is no different. While this personality is typically caring and compassionate, it’s also prone to outbursts and severer reactions in its unhealthy expression.

It’s important to keep in mind that no two people are exactly alike. Some INFJs may not relate to these darker tendencies at all, while people with other Myers Briggs Personality Types may see some of these traits in themselves."

(I'm an INFJ and this was helpful mirroring.
I found this thread to also be very helpful:

    https://projectavalon.net/forum4/sho...t=narcissismon
Since INFJs are empaths and can easily be drained of their energy, and narcissists prey on empaths and seem to have a kind of radar that tracks them down, it's good for empaths to be able to recognize and defend themselves against such predators, and to see them coming!

Almost sounds like the INFJ is an empath. It has always seemed to me that this forum attracts those sorts of souls. That's one of the reason I have stayed onboard. Here is a thread outlining the 30 Traits of An Empath.

I’m an INFJ. It was helpful to learn about the characteristics. 24 out of 102 members are INFJ. Which is high considering it’s less than 2% of the population. The thread also help me understand other members that reported their results, specifically the ones from the different quadrants.

Links: "Free Personality Test" & "Type Descriptions"

A personality test can be a useful tool to help identify strengthens and weaknesses. One other Avalon resource is Adrian86‘s thread, “Introverted Personalities and the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator,” with a quote added here from Bill Ryan:

Quote ”...Of interest, many Avalon forum members are Introverts - they prefer to write rather than talk (as Extraverts do) - and besides, the Extraverts are all out having a good time while you're there with your keyboard and your strong, vivid, internal universe.
UPDATE: They’ve replaced the test from three years ago, and a new category is added, “Identity”.
    • Mind - how we interact with our environment
    • Energy - where we direct our mental energy
    • Nature - how we make decisions and cope with emotions
    • Tactics - reflects our approach to work, planning and decision-making
    • Identity - underpins all others, how confident we are in our abilities and decisions

Additional explanation of the letters @ post #72.

These tests are always interesting to me, even though I don't find them to be of much use aside from the opportunities like this to acknowledge a 'likeness' and share an understanding with others.

Up into my 30's I recall pretty much always getting an INTJ result. My personality ended up changing some as I went through experiences that seemed to burst open my heart, and I have since then always gotten the result of INFJ-A.

    INFJs are definitely empaths.
Another trait that hasn't been mentioned on this thread yet, I think, is the INFJ's capacity for seeing the big picture, for connecting the dots.
Unlike those who come to a conclusion about something through incrementally adding up all the facts one by one, INFJs are capable of "jumping ahead", of intuitively seeing the big picture without going through all those preliminary steps.
It saves time, but often other people don't understand how their conclusions could be accurate.
    They make good overseers.

Default Re: Are you an INFJ? Do you know one?

NFs as a whole group (INFJ, INFP, ENFJ, ENFP) are all usually empaths. ('N' = Intuitive, 'F' = Feeling.)

'Introverts' (the initial 'I' vs 'E') often prefer thoughtful writing to spontaneous verbal expression, as they often feel more comfortable processing everything internally before "publishing" it externally.

So the very structure of a forum like this, especially if it's well-moderated so that sensitive souls feel protected (at least to an extent!) is very supportive to people with 'INF' preferences, who in social groups quite easily get to feel a little marginalized or misunderstood.

Many true Extroverts are busy talking to each other on the phone, or engaging face-to-face in all kinds of other ways. To connect in depth with a high Introvert one sometimes has to be patient, listen well, and ask a bunch of empathic questions rather than talking at them non-stop.

    The adage goes:
    • If you don't understand an Extrovert, you haven't been listening.
    • If you don't understand an Introvert, you haven't been asking.

For 11 years I slugged it out as a Letter Carrier in Fairbanks, even to deliver mail at 68 below zero. There was a special training that a number of people including supervisors and staff were signed up to participate. Many of the supervisors were there including my boss. It was to take part in an intelligence/social test. It was color coded and you had to answer a gazillion questions about yourself. There were points assigned to your answer which at the end you added up to relate that number to a color. They went around the table and I was near the end to answer and when I said the color they looked surprised and said are you sure, and of course double checked the math and came up with the same. The trainer mentioned how rare that was after testing Federal employees across the Country. It was the kind of test you cant cheat on and Ill never forget how my boss looked at me after that..

"How Dangerous Is The INFJ. INFJs often have an underestimated ability to predict people's thoughts and actions. They clearly see how events unfold and how everyone involved in it will be affected. Yes, INFJ types are compassionate, but when mistreated, they can use their core qualities to their advantage— and no one can stop them from doing that. Here are ten reasons INFJ types can be the most dangerous of the MBTI.

INFJ types will always have the choice to either let their demons control them or not. But if they think it is time for them to unleash these dangerous monsters, by all means, they would. As an INFJ, what are your thoughts about this? What other dangerous traits do you have that drive people away from your life?

    00:00 INTRO
00:32 10 Their words are so accurate that it hurts people right to their core.
01:32 09 They can easily change people's perspectives.
02:42 08 They are the silent yet unbeatable competitors.
03:35 07 They know what people want and can punish them using that.
04:22 06 They bottle up their negative emotions and explode.
05:20 05 They believe that the end will always justify the means.
06:22 04 They want all or nothing.
07:21 03 When hurt, they build a wall of thorns around them that can badly hurt anyone who attempts to come in.
08:23 02 They can manipulate better than their manipulators.
09:26 01 They are extremely stubborn and rebellious. "

I just took the test again. I am an INFP, though I do have J characteristics too, most of them (J-characteristics) I developed in my adult life though. Apparently William Shakespeare and Tolkien are the company I keep. Frodo Baggins and Anne of Green Gables too. Oh and Fox Mulder. So I do belong here on the Avalon Forum after all. 👽👽👽

Funny that I used to get 50-50 introvert/extravert as a result in personality tests, but this time the introvert part gets a whopping 72%! This shows how much your life circumstances (and phases of your life) determine your answers. Up until 2018 I was very much active in performing arts and therefore was a lot in groups and in front of the camera or on stage, which I loved (as much as being alone though!), it was exhausting though...but right now my preference is far more towards being with myself.

I do think however that if the positive forces win from the negative forces on earth I will get an explosive urge to be more extravert again (to balance out, because I really am both intro- and extravert, those two sides always were at war with each other when I was younger, which created a continuous dissatisfaction whatever choice I made, but now they accept and understand each other, or you could say I tamed the extravert lion to stop being judgmental to my introvert part and I boosted the introvert part’s self esteem) but right now I don’t feel inspired to put more energy in this messed up society than strictly necessary, hence the 72%.

what INFJ describe is what in Astrology the sign Scorpio is...in his highest potentials...

at that level Scorpio symbol is the Phoenix.

at the middle level his symbol is the Adler ( the all seeing )

at the low level is where Scorpio/ scorpion got his bad rap (for normies...)
here are all negative things from INFJ...

if there is two thing Scorpio/ INFJ hate/cant stand, that is Hypocrisy and vulgarity.

if 1/12 world population is under Scorpio , hummm....2% INFJ worldwide come very close...

With delay I answer, INFJ reminds me of four functions used in astrology using the Four Elements FIRE, EARTH, AIR, WATER

    Fire: Intuition ❤
    Earth: Perception🧡
    Air: Thought - Intellect 💛
    Water: Sentiment 💙

I did this test already in 2011 when it was posted with a link to the test in another forum. Saved the link and also the result to my hard drive.

    I am indeed an INFJ

    Did not surprise me.

    Here's the result copied:

    Your Type is INFJ
    Strength of the preferences %:
    Introverted 100%
    Intuitive 62%
    Feeling 12%
    Judging 22%

I write quite a bit on the Quora Q&A social media platform, more so a few years back but I still knock out at least one answer a week and there is a VERY strong MBTI community on there, and of course plenty of questions as to why INFJ is the 'rare' personality type, what makes them so special and so forth. As a long time student of Carl Jung I am aware that he would have been skeptical of the MBTI crowd, he always stressed the dynamic qualities of our personalities, and how we could shift/change throughout our lives, Jung was a physician and an observer, the MBTI branch seem to be more process driven and liable to produce category limitations that Jung would have been impatient with I feel!
The tests they present always finds me as an INFJ, but also INTP sometimes! I also know that I can be extroverted in some settings, but I do inevitably have to seek respite and shelter from social situations - I must have a long period of quiet following any large social event or happening, and I can become overwhelmed fairly quickly.
It makes sense that many on this forum will score INFJ and similar, we are not the usual product!
