Referendum to legally enshrine Donbass as part of Russia, senator says

"Joining Russia is what Donbass has been after for eight years," Andrey Turchak emphasized

MOSCOW, September 20. /TASS/. A referendum on the Donbass republics’ accession to Russia will definitely be held, legally enshrining the region and other liberated areas as part of Russia, First Deputy Speaker of Russia’s Federation Council (the upper house of parliament) and Secretary of the United Russia party's General Council Andrey Turchak said on Tuesday.

"A referendum is a necessity that is long overdue. It will definitely be held. A fair and open vote will legally consolidate its results once and for all. In fact, Donbass and other liberated areas already are part of Russia," Turchak pointed out.

"Joining Russia is what Donbass has been after for eight years. In May 2014, the people of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics waited in lines for hours at polling stations to cast their votes. They wanted to be part of Russia. No one could have thought back then that the future held eight long years of war, continuous shelling attacks by Ukrainian Nazis and the killing of civilians," Turchak emphasized.

On Monday, the Civic Chamber of the Lugansk People’s Republic called on LPR leader Leonid Pasechnik to immediately hold a referendum on recognizing the republic as a Russian constituent entity. The chamber emphasized that the move would ensure the LPR’s security and create new opportunities for its reconstruction. The DPR Civic Chamber later made the same request to Donetsk leader Denis Pushilin and the DPR People’s Council. Pushilin suggested later that the two republics should synchronize their efforts to prepare for the referendums.

Donbass wants SCO and BRICS to approve referendums, says LPR envoy

"We are interested in the most transparent and legitimate process," Rodion Miroshnik stressed

MOSCOW, September 20. /TASS/. Donbass is interested in the most transparent and legitimate holding of referendums, as well as their approval by the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and BRICS countries, Lugansk People's Republic ambassador to the Russian Federation Rodion Miroshnik said during a Rossiya-24 TV broadcast on Tuesday.

"We do not care about the attitude of the Western countries to our processes, because it has already manifested itself on the battlefield, but it is extremely important to us how the SCO countries will assess it (holding referendums - TASS), how the BRICS countries will treat it, what observers will be there. We are interested in the most transparent and legitimate process," he said.

Miroshnik noted that the presence of observers from these countries at the voting is important for Donbass. "We will appeal to the states that look unbiased at what we have been going through, and we will welcome their presence at our voting, so that they themselves, with their own eyes in the face of plenipotentiaries could make sure that people living in Donbass are indeed determined to make a fully conscious decision to become part of the Russian Federation. This is an extremely important factor that we, the diplomats, will now work on," the ambassador said.

The UK's embargo on energy imports has helped send the price of oil and natural gas soaring, with a knock-on effect on the broader inflation rate, now at 10 percent. Businesses face a harsh winter, with almost three-quarters of British pubs saying they will have to shut their doors.
A British cabinet minister has claimed the government's pledge of £2.3 billion in military aid to Ukraine next year will cut soaring energy bills at home.
Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) Secretary Michelle Donelan told Sky News' Kay Burley on Tuesday morning that arming President Volodymyr Zelensky's regime was key to reducing "dependence" on Russian energy exports.
"We believe it is fundamentally important that we're standing up for democracy, that we're continuing to protect Ukraine in their fight, that we're standing up for the rest of the world who needs to end their global dependence on Russia, which is one of the factors behind the increasing price in fuel," Donelan said.
"So this is actually going to help the cost of living of people, not just in the UK, but across the globe as well," the cabinet minister claimed. "And we hope that other countries will see what we're doing and follow our example."

Western sanctions on Russia, including the UK's embargo on energy imports, have backfired, helping send the price of oil and natural gas soaring to levels five or six times those at the start of 2021. That has had a knock-on effect on the prices of other goods, with general inflation hitting 10 percent.
Household bills have more than doubled as regulator Ofgem has raised its price cap. Businesses, which are not protected by that limit, face a harsh winter, with almost three-quarters of British pubs surveyed saying they expect to have to shut their doors.
Donelan could not clarify how new Chancellor of the Exchequer Kwasi Kwarteng would fund the latest splurge on arms, saying only: "We will outline exactly where that money is coming from."
New Prime Minister Liz Truss has promised to reverse tax increases made by former chancellor Rishi Sunak — her rival in this summer's Conservative Party leadership election — to pay for the COVID-19 lockdown furlough scheme and to clear the resulting backlog of cases in the National Health Service (NHS).
The culture secretary rejected the notion that the inflationary crisis would undermine the government's backing for Kiev's war on the Donbass republics.

Authorities in the Donetsk and Lugansk Peoples' Republics, which Russia launched its special military operation to defend, have repeatedly stressed that the West has knowingly been giving Ukrainian troops and neo-Nazi militias heavy artillery and other weapons used to kill civilians.
Ukrainian forces again shelled the centre of Donetsk city on Monday, killing 13 people at a bus stop and shop — including two children, according to Mayor Alexei Kulemzin.
Images from the scene showed human bodies torn to pieces. The DPR mission to the Joint Centre for Control and Coordination (JCCC) said nine shells, of the 155mm calibre fired specifically by NATO-standard howitzers such as the US M777, hit the site of the massacre.
Five more people were killed and six injured in the front-line city on Tuesday when shells hit a theatre where a memorial service was being held for a female officer in the Donetsk People's Militia.

Russian Military Hardware Effectively Countering Western Weapons in Ukraine, Putin Says

Russia’s President Vladimir Putin has stated that Russian military equipment "effectively" counters Western weapons in Ukraine.
Speaking to the heads of Russian defense enterprises on Tuesday, Putin said that the Russian weapons used during Moscow’s ongoing special military operation in Ukraine “show high efficiency” and that “first of all it pertains to aviation, long-range high-precision missiles, as well as rocket-artillery and armored vehicles and others.”

He added that these weapons help Russian forces “destroy military infrastructure, command posts and enemy equipment, as well as hit locations of nationalist formations while minimizing losses among Russian personnel [in Ukraine]."

The Russian president recalled that “in fact, all stocks of NATO's arsenals have been thrown in to support the current regime in Kiev.” According to him, Russia should study Western arsenals of weapons used in Ukraine in order to improve domestic military hardware.

“This means that we must and can study them - these arsenals and how they are being used against us. We should qualitatively increase our capabilities and – proceeding from our expertise - improve our military equipment, [and] our weapons, if necessary,” Putin stressed.

Russia launched the special operation in Ukraine on February 24th, with Putin saying at the time that the goal is “to protect people who have been subjected to genocide by the Kiev regime for eight years.”
He added that to implement the task, it’s necessary to demilitarize and de-Nazify Ukraine and to bring to justice all war criminals responsible for "bloody crimes against civilians" in Donbass.

According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the Russian armed forces, who only destroy Ukraine’s military infrastructure with high-precision weapons, on March 25 completed the main tasks of the operation’s first stage by significantly reducing Kiev’s combat potential.

Putin, for his part, underscored that the ultimate goal of the operation is "the liberation of Donbass and the creation of conditions that would guarantee the security of Russia itself.”

Ukrainian “Hit List” Publishes Names and Addresses of Alleged “Russian Propagandists:” Turns Out To Be Based Not in Ukraine But in Langley VA Where CIA Headquarters Is Located

    Just a coincidence, right?

Under Public Law 117-128, the U.S. Congress is funding an organization called Ukrainian Center for Countering Disinformation (CCD), whose professed purpose, according to its website, is to “counter Russian disinformation.” But its real purpose may be to create the equivalent of a “fatwah list” of alleged traitors whom patriotic Americans and/or Ukrainians will feel they have a green light to assassinate.

The fatwa list includes such “traitors” as writers Chris Hedges and Glenn Greenwald, political scientist John Mearsheimer, Pink Floyd singer Roger Waters, Senator Rand Paul (R-KY), former presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard, conservative military analyst Edward Luttwak who was placed on the list for suggesting that referendums should be held in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions concerning their relations to Ukraine, and Henry Kissinger, who is worried about the prospects of a war between the U.S. and Russia.

The profiles of many people targeted under the “hit list” has been posted on a website, Myrotvorets (meaning “peacemaker” in Ukrainian), whose domain name is listed as being in Langley, Virginia, headquarters of the CIA.

Established in 2014 following the Maidan coup with assistance from a U.S. army intelligence officer, Joel Harding, Myrotvorets aims to out Russian intelligence service (FSB) agents and Wagner mercenaries alongside pro-Russian propagandists and features gruesome photos of dead Russians. Its welcome message advertises itself as a “CIA project.”

Sadly, many on the Myrotvorets enemies list have already been assassinated. When this occurs, the Ukrainian word ЛИКВИДИРОВАН (“LIQUIDATED”) is stamped across their picture in big red letters—as happened when Italian journalist Andrea Rocchelli was murdered.

    Craven Acts of Terrorism
The expansion of the Ukrainian government’s assassination campaign—modeled after the CIA-run Phoenix operation in Vietnam—was exemplified with the killing of Sergey Gorenko, the Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR) Prosecutor General, and his deputy, Yekaterina Steglenko, after a Kyiv bomb rocked the headquarters of the Prosecutor General’s office in Luhansk on September 16.

The New York Times earlier reported on Ukrainian commando teams who admitted to planting car bombs targeting pro-Russian police officers and politicians behind Russian lines.

Also on September 16, at least five U.S.-made HIMARS missiles hit the civil administration building in Kherson city in an assassination attempt on Kirill Stremousov, the deputy chair of the military-civilian administration. Ekaterina Gubareva, a government employee who was wounded, (a driver was killed), called the strike a “craven act of terrorism.”[1]

Geoff Young, Democratic Party Nominee from Kentucky, Also on Hit List

LaRouche Candidate for New York Senate Diane Sare Attacked

    Colonel Black:
The first speaker at the September 7 press conference was Colonel Richard Black, a decorated Vietnam War veteran and former State Senator from Virginia, who emphasized like Ritter how the U.S. Congress was attempting to control freedom of speech in the U.S. in violation of the U.S. Constitution by having a foreign entity—the CCD—do it.

According to Black, the Department of Homeland Security tried earlier in the year to establish a disinformation governance board headed by Nina Jankowicz, a Ukrainian linguist and adviser to former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko.

Her presentation to the public was so extreme and off-putting that the center’s formation was paused—at least for the time being.

Black said that, among those targeted by the CCD, are patriotic Americans with well-informed views on foreign policy like Senator Paul and former Congresswoman Gabbard.

Black said that U.S. policy in Ukraine is disastrously courting the risk of all-out nuclear war. The labeling of dissenters as “information terrorists” potentially exposes them to the death penalty, with many people on the Myrotvorets website having been assassinated.

Though the facts remain speculative, a Rio de Janeiro newspaper reported that the assassination attempt on September 1, 2022 directed against Argentina’s Vice President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner may have even resulted from her refusal to condemn Russia’s special military operation and her calls for peace talks to end the war.

US tanks ‘absolutely on the table’ for Ukraine – Pentagon
Kiev has pressed both Washington and its EU allies for increasingly heavy weaponry in recent weeks

The United States may provide “NATO compatible” tanks to the Ukrainian military to replace aging Soviet-era gear, a senior Pentagon official has said, as Kiev continues to urge for a steady stream of Western arms amid fierce fighting with Russian troops.

Speaking to reporters at an anonymous briefing on Monday, the defense staffer was asked whether the White House was considering heavy armor in future aid packages to Ukraine, noting that Ukrainian lawmakers recently visited the US capital to specifically push for tanks.

“Tanks are absolutely on the table along with other areas,” the official said, noting that while Ukrainian troops are more familiar with “Soviet type tanks,” the Pentagon recognizes “that there will be a day when they may want to transition and may need to transition to NATO compatible models.”

Pressed on whether Western tanks might be included in upcoming arms deliveries, the official said that would depend on how quickly Ukrainian forces could be trained to use and maintain the vehicles, but added the administration of US President Joe Biden is “certainly open” to the idea.

Russia Presents Evidence of US Ukraine-Based Military-Biological Activity to Geneva Convention

Moscow earlier presented evidence that the Russian military found in Ukrainian bio laboratories seized during the special military operation in the neighboring country. The documents suggested that these labs, funded by Washington, were working on dangerous pathogens.
The Russian Defense Ministry has presented evidence of US military-biological activity in Ukraine to member states of the Biological Weapons Convention in Geneva, head of the Radiation, Chemical and Biological Defense of the Russian Armed Forces, Lt. Gen. Igor Kirillov, said.
The ministry's representative said that member states' delegations did not question the authenticity of the documents they were presented as proof of the US' and Ukraine's violation of articles I and IV of the Convention.

The head of the RCBD of the Russian Armed Forces further pointed out that the US and Ukraine failed to present convincing evidence to the Convention's members that would prove that the Pentagon's cooperation with the Ukrainian laboratories benefited the epidemiological situation in the country. Kirillov said that the US Department of Defense only came up with a few photos of renovated laboratories, while the said epidemiological situation in Ukraine has been deteriorating for the past 15 years.
The Russian Defense Ministry's representative further stated that the US admitted the fact that Ukraine exported biological pathogens and materials, as well as engaging in ethically questionable experiments – namely on the military and socially vulnerable groups of the Ukrainian population such as psychiatric ward patients. Kirillov slammed the US attempts to tone down the problem by using claims that it did not occur "often".

Russia raised 20 questions regarding the illegal activities of Kiev and Washington that violate the provisions of the Convention with the BWC member states, Kirillov said. Among them are questions regarding the choice of pathogens for studies, which often included ones that have never been discovered in Ukraine.
The ministry's representative also reiterated Russia's previous statements regarding Ukraine seeking to procure drones from Turkey fit to disperse aerosols. The Turkish defense company refused to deliver the UAVs, which could have been used to spread harmful and potentially deadly pathogens.

On The Upcoming Putin Speech And Announcements

Moscow has made a decision how to proceed in the proxy war with NATO in the Ukraine.

We do not yet know what the decision is.

The President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin will hold a TV speech at 8 pm Moscow time (17:00 UTC) followed by an announcement by Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.

In July Putin has held a press conference or speech where he said with regards to Ukraine something like: "We haven't even started yet."

It may be that Russia will do that now.

That a decision had been made was noticeable.

Yesterday the parliaments of the Luhansk and Donetz People's Republics suddenly requested their government to immediately launch referendums about the republics accession to the Russian Federation. Today Denis Pushilin, the head of of the DNR government, announced that a referendum will be held on September 23 to 27.

Also yesterday the Russian parliament introduced amendments to the Russian Criminal Code which will increase the prison penalties for 'voluntary surrender', 'looting', 'non-fulfillment of military orders' during a time of mobilization, martial law and war. Companies who reject to produce for the military will also be penalized. The amendments passed their second reading in parliament today and will become law after a third reading.

If the LNR and DPR vote to become part of Russia, and if Russia accepts it, any attack of them will be an act of war against Russia. The 'Special Military Operation', which Russia is currently proceeding with, would thus change into something way more serious. Russia could declare the conflict to be a war. It could then use conscripts in war functions, mobilize reserves and use its full arsenal against the Ukraine. Potentially also against those who support it with weapons and other war material.

I find this whole seemingly hasty process atypical for Putin's usual way.

My hunch is that Russia received information over some weapon systems the U.S. is secretly providing to the Ukraine. This could be missiles with several hundred kilometer range or other types of weapons that could seriously threaten Russia's towns and cities.

If so, Russia has to do something now to end the war before its becomes more than a nuisance for Russia and its people. Ending means of course by winning it.

Training up a mobilization force takes about three months. It would put it on the front in the mid of winter, a season during which Russian forces can operate quite well.

I've not listened to this yet, but it's only 2 hours old and Col. Doug Macgregor, one of the sanest voices out there, is likely to have made some acutely intelligent, concise and very appropriate points about the most recent developments.

The calls for referenda are very interesting, and maybe not a moment too soon.

    A couple of points:
    • The Kremlin has to be a close party to these decisions, fully in agreement and in the loop.
    • Assuming all of the referenda have a pro-joining-Russia conclusion, this in itself would change the architecture of the Russian military campaign. Donbass would be integrated within the Russian Federation, and so the attacks on civilians would be attacks on Russian civilians in Russian territory. That's terrorism by any definition, and actions such as taking out personnel in Kiev would be a lot easier to justify to (e.g.) the watching global south.
Alexander Mercouris agrees totally, and enlarges on these important consequences.
    1. Once these areas are part of Russia, the Russian military is legally required to defend Russian sovereign territory.
    2. The Donbass military, heroic as they are, will then be subordinate to the Russian military. So that changes, and significantly strengthens and enhances, the military command structure on the ground.
    3. It's a different, and arguably more effective, way for the gloves to be taken completely off.

I have to say, while this was entirely predictable, it made my blood boil. The hypocrisy of western politicians about 'democracy' is breathtaking.

Russia Just announced ''Partial mobilzation'' - coupled with the referendums this will take the gloves off for the Russian Military.

Re the Sky News clip of Putin's speech above....

At the end of the video Foreign Office Minister Gillian Keegan comments and one has to wonder if she actually believes the misrepresentation of the situation in Ukraine that she is pushing - like so many of the Western Political Class now she appears to be dumb and dangerous... a mouthpiece for the Globalist Elite who want to regime change in Russia and take over the country by any means necessary... and the way things are escalating that could be sacrificing Western Citizens in a World War... she is a lightweight... making light of a very unstable and dangerous situation.. god help us all...

As suspected by many of us here, now we have some evidence to assert our suspicions on the infiltration and mimicry around the Russian chat channels during the Kharkhiv episode in particular. Busted
