Default Looking for an all natural deodorant

I want to find an all natural deodorant. Anyone have any experience with this? I'll do a search but I wanted to ask fellow Avalonians who may have actually tried different methods. Thanks in advance.

Hi Strat. I did find one recently and it does work. Not antiperspirant. It's called Schmidt's Charcoal+ Magnesium. All natural ingredients. Doesn't stop swear but does stop the stink! Contact schmidtnaturals.com ...it's made in Canada.

I tried lots but the best one I've found is Earth Science brand Liken Plant natural deodorant.
It's solid, so goes on dry, lasts a long time, non-toxic and very effective.

As a frugal and minimalist woman, i make deodorant myself. With coconutoil, a little bakingsoda and a essential oil of my liking.

I once tried the Jason brand, I think it's called. Supposedly it doesn't have all the poisons and whatnot. Unfortunately it doesn't have any deodorizing effect either. I overpaid for that stuff too. Currently i use arm and hammer, and it's free of alot of the crap that's in most stuff. Don't ask me what it's free of, or what's in most stuff, because i don't know. I've just decided to blindly trust the label. It's a strategy that is likely harming me, but i find it cunning. You gotta pick your battles, and I can't worry about my deodorant when I have to worry about the water, air, and food too. If i eventually die of cancerous tumors in my armpits, I'll still refuse to take responsibility for it. Instead I'll blame that bastard Jason for making such a sh!tty product.

Alum stone is a natural product, a mineral known for its astringent, antibacterial and hemostatic properties.

It can be used on almost wet skin (water or hydrogen peroxide from the pharmacy) together with essential oils of chamomile, nutmeg or pink peppercorns or scented oils, after showering, epilation or shaving, or it can be moistened with water and applied on dry skin . There are no restrictions on the areas on which it can be applied: face, armpit, legs.

    Properties:
-allows the skin to breathe, leaving the pores free.
-hemostatic: useful to reduce bleeding in the case of minor cuts.
    -antibacterial: blocks bacterial proliferation.
-purifying and calming: in case of bites, stings, irritations in children and adults.
    - soothes itching.
    -mild healing for small wounds.
    -astringent, narrows pores.
-neutral: it is not fragrant, it is odorless and colorless when applied.
-it is very economical: it lasts a little longer, protected from moisture.
-is not: antiperspirant, ie does not prevent the physiological process of perspiration and elimination of toxins from the body.
-it is not: an agent that reduces perspiration enough, especially for people who sweat profusely, but it is nice to know that it does not fill our pores with chemicals.
-it is economical, hypoallergenic, unscented, allows the skin to breathe, leaves no marks on clothes.

Potassium alum - is a natural mineral, a salt that comes in the form of a translucent white crystal, odorless. Natural alum stone comes from mines or surface deposits.

Method of production: the alum stone in the form of a stick is obtained by cutting and polishing the raw alum stone.

Potassium alum is completely harmless, the aluminum oxides and hydroxides it releases on contact with the skin are chemically stable, do not react with the skin at this stage and cannot release aluminum, are not soluble and do not penetrate the skin.
Potassium alum VERSUS Ammonium alum - the first is based on mole extracted from mine, the second is manufactured industrially, with aluminum salt, by synthesis, and is avoidable (attention, it is manufactured by a number of manufacturers as crystal deodorant)

I know that it is extremely important to use very natural products.
Last year I tried to make my own toothpaste (baking soda, garden peppermint essential oil, and food grade hydrogen peroxide) .. but I'm missing something from the "recipe" (not fluoride for sure) ...

In 2013, I saw (for 18 days in a row) a patient over 200 kg who had skin cancer developed under her left arm (her doctors assumed that from chemical deodorants, as she was an overweight person and maybe difficult to maintain a minute hygiene), (her arm was huge and no lymph drainage could delay the development of cancer cells).
And all this to be just human.

I have used Schmidts for a few years, both my husband and I like it. I use lavender, he uses the lime. I used to order online but now I find it in stores. It also lasts a long time.

I use fresh LEMON! Yes, FRESH LEMON! Which if I recall, I came across the idea of using lemon from another post here at Avalon a few years back. Obviously, Lemon won't keep you dry but we're actually MEANT to perspire to clear out toxins etc. But it has something to do with the alkalinizing properties of lemon that keeps you fresh. Just squeeze the juice in your hands and rub on.

It may take a few days to transition and your body to adjust but it works. Once again Mother Nature to the rescue!

Interestingly, when I became Vegan I noticed that I don't even need the lemon anymore - perhaps as a precaution on a hot day and I'm in a situation that might make me nervous.

I also think that a lot of issue around smell actually comes from the toxins caused not just by stress and what we eat but also the horrifying chemicals in the deodorants themselves, not to mention that the under arm is right near the area of lymph nodes which are sites of drainage to clear out toxins which gets sprayed over and clogged up! I've often wondered if this is the cause for some women who develop breast cancer? Not surpringsly, well you 'Google' this info pretty much all of the searces come back as there being 'no direct link' between deodorants and breast cancer!

I'm glad you're looking in to this Strat. I feel the deodorant industry is another big harmful lie!

I've made several over the years and it seems that after a few months they stop working and I have to switch. Plain old Milk of Magnesia works, I pour it into a roller bottle or you could just use a cotton ball. Try it, you'll be amazed.

    Hello Strat,

Here in Asia people in the country usually use talcum powder as a deodorant, I did try and still using it sometimes specially on humid and hot days. It works for me, but each individual is different, some metabolism works faster than others. All major brands has it, but I suggest to buy the old stuffs, they are much better, mom and pops shop always have it.

I only need to use deodorant on rare occasions - for whatever reason I don't sweat much unless I am exercising and rarely have any body odour.

One of the lucky ones in that regard.

IF I use men's deodorant, then I will get body odour.

I've been using Every Man Jack - mostly natural deodorant - citrus scented. It's only partly natural (no weird chemicals though) but I like the citrus scent

Speaking of citrus I heard that limes make a pretty good deodorant - makes sense as limes are hugely anti-microbial. You can just rub it on, or I read once you can make a puree from the whole lime and boil it down into a paste or gel substance. I think the only caveats here is that if you're just slicing and rubbing it on, it could get expensive (depending where you live I guess), and if you have sensitive skin this might not work out for you. Also limes contain psoralen which greatly increases light sensitivity of the skin when topically applied - so no sunning your armpits after lime exposure.

I am super sensitive and can't use deodorants with citrus, or deodorant crystals (alum) either. I use Aubrey Organics E + High C deodorant. It is natural and works well even in hot weather. If I had to make my own, I would give the coconut oil + baking soda recipe a try.
