    Default Irish Eyes Are Smiling

    Last night as I slept
I dreamt I met with Behan
I shook him by the hand
And we passed the time of day
    When questioned on his views
On the crux of life's philosophies
He had but these few clear
    And simple words to say

    I am going
    I am going
Any which way the wind may be blowing
    Going I am going
Where streams of whiskey are flowing

I been cursed bled and sworn
Jumped bail and landed up in jail
Life has tried to stretch me
But the rope always was slack
And now that I've a pile
    I'll go into the Chelsea
I'll go in on my feet
But I'll leave there on my back

    Because I'm going
    I am going
Any which way the wind may be blowing
    Going I am going
Where streams of whiskey are flowing

Did you catch last years documentary film ‘Crock of Gold: A Few Rounds with Shane MacGowan’? Very interesting and highly recommended if not Bluegreen.

Ha this is a nice thread! And ireland is a great and beautiful country to grow up and live in! Many great places to walk, hike and spend time in nature, especially outside Dublin, in particular Donegal up north has some of the most amazing scenery in the world, or down the south west around Kerry, many days I spent as child down in the Irish countryside, adventures around the green fields on fresh blue sky days, then swimming in the Atlantic when spending time on the coast! And of course a good drenching of Irish rain topped off with a good laugh and a lazy midday sleep after the adventures. My only true criticism, and speaking as a native, it’s can be hard to truly connect and socialise without the need for alcohol, I don’t drink, and it’s not the easiest thing to abstain from and maintain social cohesion, as very much social interactions and downtime involve some form of drinking engagement etc.

My last name used to start with an O. Somewhere from the boat to here in the States that was taken off. Family is from county Clare, great, great, great grandfather fought in the civil war, walked 50 miles in the winter with just rags on his feet to see the family. My grandfather was a professional golfer, they owned many bars in Detroit til my grandfather passed. Irish festivals, pint of Guinness, and oh the Irish music with the trinity dancers. And yes Irish stew . Good times and memories.
