Vaccine Science & Clinical Trials
This is a thread dedicated mostly to the science and clinical trials of vaccine development.
Currently in the EU alone, as best as I can understand, 786 vaccines are currently in varying stages of development.
Overall there are 39 787 clinical trials being conducted, including 6529 on those under 18 years of age.
The EU clinical trials register feeds directly in to the WHO master database.

On the 10th of June 2021 16 vaccines had been approved and authorized for use around the world.
There are a further 85 (86?) currently in development.

The above is a particularly useful link as it shows who is doing what and where and potentially how to start 'following the money' too.
There are a number of different vaccine platforms being used.
- inactivated virus vaccines (more old school)
- live, attenuated virus vaccines
- recombinant viral vector vaccines
- recombinant subunit vaccines
- DNA vaccines (new and experimental)
- RNA vaccines (new and experimental)
Quote from the WHO:
"The nucleic acid (DNA and mRNA) approach is a new way of developing vaccines. Before the covid-19 pandemic, NONE HAD YET BEEN THROUGH THE FULL APPROVALS PROCESS FOR USE IN HUMANS.
The link offers excellent vaccine platform descriptions in basic and fine detail.

By way of comparison this is the WHO description of the various vaccine platforms.
